I am so impressed that you tried out for Shark Tank. I know you are disappointed that you didn't make it on TV. But you TRIED! You put yourself out and grew and learned new things. You are Strong, Powerful and Brave!
I don’t have failures I have learning opportunities. I lost most of my sight with a diagnosis 8.25 years ago (somehow I’d not noticed how bad my sight had become over 1.75 years before my diagnosis when I slowly lost my ability to recognise people across the road waving in my direction 🤷♀️ ) I could find myself on a mystery tour after my diagnosis as I’d take a wrong turn and not recognise the blur around me… at first it upset me then I changed my wording so I wasn’t lost I was exploring. My most recent learning experience was while completing the quilting on a project I started November 2020… got overwhelmed a few blocks in so layed it aside until I made the remaining blocks, finished sewing the quilt top and sandwiched the quilt in September 2024 before laying it aside on 3rd October to make 2 Christmas gifts. 2nd January I started the quilting on the pin basted sandwich… Well I sewed a couple of pins into the quilting. I missed feeling them as I sewed (I see a blur of colour while sewing and see clearest with my nose 4 inches from what I’m looking at)… then thinking I’d removed all pins in a sewn section and not realising I’d missed one I sewed through the clasp… so I had a punk pin waiting for a nose to fit through its piercing 😂 I’m so lucky my workhorse of a machine was undamaged… not even the needle.
Oh, wow! I love that you're still quilting! And darn that pin! 😆 Have you considered spray basting or thread basting? Those might be less likely to damage your machine (though it sounds fairly indestructable!) ❤️
@ I may try thread basting, spray basting wouldn’t suit as I’d need to touch where I’m basting to check I’ve got the adhesive on the he project where I need it. I already know I can’t spray evenly because of how spraying my blocks, rows, etc goes when I’m pressing seams . I use a mist sprayer because my previous sprayer used to be worse at for being unevenly soaked or dry. I’ll need to use a few pins as markers as I thread baste as I’m basting totally tactilely as I lose the thread against the fabric.
We are human, not perfect. Yes, accept, learn, and move on. I appreciate that you are down to earth and open about your failures. Love you and all you do.
LOVE this video! Thank you so much for being vulnerable and brave and sharing your "failures" and disappointments. We learn from our mistakes, and even better, mistakes mean that we are pushing ourselves outside our comfort zones and growing, so that's always a win. Plus you get really good stories when things go wrong! Your authenticity is amazing and refreshing. Love that shark quilt, and definitely want the scrappy tree quilt pattern! My word for this year is "strength," and part of that is to be more brave - so thank you! 💕
Hi Carolina! Thank you for posting this. I am a beginner quilter, having only made two quilts, but they both had some learning curves that involved fabric. The first was a baby quilt that I was fussy cutting. The pieces had snowball corners(I think they are called), and I cut those pieces three times because first the picture I wanted in the center, wasn't there, and then it was sideays/off center. At the end of the day, I ended up with a lot of "extra" pieces. My second quilt was a scrappy double wedding quilt that I thought I had enough fabric for, but it turned out I didn't. When I went back to the store to pick up some more of the same pattern...they were sold out, so I had to pick out not one but three new colors. But it still turned out beautiful, and I learned the lesson to always buy a little extra....just in case.😂
I am sorry that you had a rough year in 2024. Put everything before the Lord and he will make a way for you and give you peace. I love the Christmas tree quilt.
I appreciate that you are so REAL. Thank you for sharing, but focus on all of the amazing successes that you have had! I love your entrepreneurial spirit and I’m so proud of you! I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
That shark quilt would be the best quilt for a boy! I just made two baby quilts for twin boys. Always looking for something fun and different. The scrappy tree quilt would definitely put a dent in my green scraps. 😊
Wow! So brave to share your fails. My biggest fail is that I don't finish and start the next project. We'll see if I get some of my quilts finished in 2025. I love the scrappy tree pattern. Have a wonderful year with your business in 2025 and hopefully not too many fails in 2025.
First Attempt In Learning....all part of our growth. Not sure where I saw this but it's affirming to think of how every experience teaches us. You are inspirational to so many of us!
Oh my! Love this video so much!! I’ve been working on a quilt for a good friend for (yes it’s true 🤦🏻♀️) for over 5 years. It’s not for lack of motivation but more because of major medical issues, both his and mine. After my next upcoming surgery (or the following one) I hope to finish and deliver it in 2025. It’s closer, but still a WIP 😢
I agree with you on the fails. It hurts my heart to see my daughters and grandchildren quit because they think failing is going to be the norm. I tell them there is no such thing as failure. You either succeed or learn. Keep trying, it will come. The only failure is quitting before every option is tried. When something doesn't turn out the way we wish on the first try, I call it a creative opportunity to make something else out of it! I appreciate you sharing with us because it does make us feel not so alone. Thank you!
We've been conditioned to only share the good... which can make other folks feel like they're the only ones "riding the struggle bus." In the fall, I was having conversations with others about some of my big struggles, and they opened up to me about theirs... it made me feel so much less alone. I wanted to give that same gift to others. It may look like I have it all together (and I really do have it pretty well together), but failure is part of the process. ❤️
I'm sure there are thousands of people who don't even get to round 1. Grats on round 2. :) That's why, when we go on a cruise, we fly down the night before. More time just in case the airline travel has hick-ups. I love the scrappy tree quilt.
I don't remember the exact stats anymore, but essentially there are 4 rounds before you make it on TV - audition, paperwork (and second audition), filming, then airing. Huge cuts each round. From what I read, even half the folks who get filmed don't make it on the show! It is such a long shot... but a fun dream. ❤️ And yes, I always travel The day before, because I'm such a travel jinx! 🤪
You are awesome and thank you for sharing. While what we each may consider a fail, could be something someone else would celebrate, it is so awesome that we can share with each other in this community. I am a healthcare professional and we do analyze our successes and challenges for lessons learned (and for good reason), but it is not something that is openly discuss (again for good reason). My biggest failure of 2024 is that I did not complete a single project. However, my biggest win was that I created a master organization system for all of my quilting and sewing supplies and I have my new studio space design drawn out with an architect! Hoping to build out that space in my current attic in 2025!! Please know that we love you and so enjoy and appreciate what you share with us!! If ever I am in San Diego again, I would love to meet you in person!!
That shark is great!!! And publish that tree before Chriatmas in July!!! Quilt shops should love it for summer promotions As for fails - still struggling to get patterns/instructions published for our studios kids sewing program.... and then there is the admin for that program. Somehow missed getting forms from 2 parents again today! And they are returning students so the form should have been submitted in September
2025 has to be a better year! I firmly believe that! My husband had his third joint replacement surgery in December. Unfortunately, I fractured my back a week later which definitely put a huge damper on the holidays. We all have ups and downs! I hope your 2025 is filled with all things great!🥰
Thank you for your openness and honesty! I really appreciate it when a creator of your level is brave enough to be so honest and vulnerable and yet to be able to see the truth and perspective of how these were learning opportunities and thus how so much was gleaned from each one. I do hope that you are able to release the scrappy tree pattern soon, because it’s really cool. As I touched on, I think that perspective is so very important and makes the difference between getting stuck vs moving forward……thus I would say for myself that I had more setbacks and unmet expectations and goals than “failures” last year. But then I like you have to factor in the unexpected life events that just happen and be willing to give myself grace and learn from them and keep moving forward-for example a biggie was adding 3 more surgeries that I didn’t expect to have to have, FYI that made it 9 surgeries since Nov 2024! I agree that we as humans and creators tend to be harder on ourselves not just then others especially those who know us best, but than even God is. Praying that you have another great year with less setbacks and “failures” than ever experienced before! I look forward to seeing what you accomplish this year!
Oh my goodness! Health issues are such a curveball... you don't know when they'll pop up, and then you need to step back to give your body time to heal... and stepping back is not my strong suit! 🤪 Hoping you have a healthy 2025 (and beyond). ❤️
I don't usually do scraps, but I would make that tree quilt! I learn a lot 😂, lol. '25 is going to be awesome! It has to be, I started out on Jan 2 by breaking my first bone ever, ankle. Woohoo, yay me. It'll all go up from here!

Wow, Shark Tank that is amazing. Your quilts are so pretty. Like you, traveling, I actually got on the wrong plane and No one noticed my ticket was for Cabo and I ended up in New York!!! 😂😂😂
😂 no I stayed at the Airport. I have called several places around here, left msges. Do you know of any organizations who might help pay shipping to get 100+ quilts down to Amanda? They are boxed and ready to go. @CarolinaMoore
Kudos to you, friend! We all have situations in our crafty journey & in life that do not live up to the expectation. On my very small channel, I always want my viewers to see my “oopses” & learn with me. If one person can benefit from my mistake & not make it, it is a win to me!! Take care, Carolina!!
Trying out for Shark tank is a win! That takes a lot of guts. Your fails make you stronger and more prepared and grounded. It is great that you share these. I just subscribed to your channel. Being real is important, You Rock!, Lisa
My husband gave me a christmas gift to go to Hamilton! It’s a good 2-day drive from here in NC and it’s Christmas! I spent December 26 in Hamilton visiting as many shops as I could (I’m old, I get tired!!🥴). All my purchases were mailed to me because this is what they do - I had a big box in the back of the Main Store with all my info and all,I had to,do was drop off my tote bags whenever I wanted and then let them know I was done! That box arrived at my hime on December 30 - didn’t expect,to see it till after January 1st! I would never do the birthday bash only because of the incredible amount of people - I’d love to see all the free things the Doan family does for thst time, but…….glad I went when I did!
Glad you had a Great time on the cruise! I would love to make it to Hamilton for the Birthday Bash...I 'm so missing Jenny!❤ I have a lot WIP in my stock pile to get done so maybe this will be my year to get alot done. PLEASE Publish the scrapy tree pattern as soon as you can. That might be my next stater and ender project, wish it was out last year I was looking for something like that this year...❤
We are all going to failures in life itself. The question is what are we going to do…. We get up learn from the failure or mistake and start again. 😉 Thanks for sharing.
Along the lines of failure and failing, I remember a quote from the movie, The Natural. Glenn Close tells Robert Redford (who is feeling like he failed), "I believe we each have two lives. The life we learn with, and the life we live with after that."
@@CarolinaMoore I should have mentioned that Glenn Close added, “and the life we live with after that; with or without all the trophies.” I took this quote to mean, the life we live with is a result of all the lessons, and we need those lessons for life’s success stories. I feel that you are NOT a failure, you’re just getting lessons for a future filled with MORE success! Thanks for your videos!!!!
I had a friend who was convinced that we are doomed to repeat the lessons we don't learn. Sounds pretty similar, though my friends' sounded more ominous, and yours more hopeful. ❤️
You made it to the second round of Shark Tank?!?!?! That is amazing! I will be looking forward to buying your scrappy tree quilt pattern as soon as you have it! Since I have to plan my schedule of makes months in advance, the earlier you release it the better 🥰
@CarolinaMoore My pleasure to honestly support you 🥰 I just got the 2024 snowflake card today. I am very excited to make a couple of quilting projects this year. Maybe a Christmas tree quilt..... 🤭
Sometimes I have to restate my goals because the outcome is out of my control. I’d love to get a quilt into QuiltCON, but my yearly goals are to design, make, and submit a quilt (instead of a goal of getting a quilt accepted into QuiltCON). I can’t control the judging.
Oh, I have a whole video on entering quilts in shows. I've entered, won ribbons, and even judged... so I have some experience. And it is less about controlling the judging, and more about not being able to control who else shows up. If they have room for 500 quilts, and you're the 301st best quilt, you'll get in. Because only 300 people with a "better" quilt showed up. But if 600 people with "better" quilts show up, you won't make it in. 🤷♀️ You can't control who else shows up. But you can control if YOU show up. So... keep doing your own best, and keep showing up. ❤️
I don't use the "f" word because I believe it's all a Lear process. You can't fail if you have learned something from the experience. I'm missing the daily advents but I hope you are well! 💗
@@CarolinaMoore Great job! I hope you can catch a bit of rest now. The daily videos on top of finishing your book was a rush to end the year but I thank you for it for my part. 😀 Best wishes for 2025!
Somebody needs to create a double magnifying extendable mirror to hold under your longarm so you can see the back stitches. I have a pic of it in my mind. Or is there one already?
I've thought about something like this. It would need to have lights as well, because it is dark under there... and I'm sick of crawling under there with my flashlight to check the tension. 😆
Awww... thanks! I was listening to "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert again (it is one of my favorites). She says the Greeks believed one "had a genius" rather than "was a genius." And I love that concept. It keeps one humble, working hard, making sure I deserve the having of any genius that comes my way!
FAIL First attempt in learning the painful part is when you lose tons of money in the process and you have unhappy customers. Nothing is a bigger fail than that. I imagine a yearly budget should have a line item for when things go wrong. As an entrepreneur you try sooo hard to think of every little detail but inevitably there’s one detail that you miss…due to the fact that you’re stepping into new territory.there are also so many unpredictable variables . I’m learning that the hard way. When you are a brand new business everything is an experiment every day and at any point there’s a high probability of failure. It’s very interesting and you have constant learning, but you have to have the guts to gamble on an idea or a product that you’re launching/selling. People don’t realize how fragile owning a small business is. This is why I admire you so much. You take big chances like with the glow rulers . I can imagine the tremendous amount of time, energy, expense resourcefulness and imagination that went into this unique product and then putting yourself out there and spending more time and energy applying for shark tank. You have guts of steel and you are resilient, plus you have endless amounts of energy and ambition. Kudos to you.
I love the scrappy tree quilt!!! You need to release that one!!!!
Will do!! ❤️
I am so impressed that you tried out for Shark Tank. I know you are disappointed that you didn't make it on TV. But you TRIED! You put yourself out and grew and learned new things. You are Strong, Powerful and Brave!
I actually found out yesterday that a quilty business DID make it onto Shark Tank! Watch January 24th to cheer on Legit Kits!!
That scrappy tree quilt is freaking awesome!!!!
Thanks! ❤️
Gorgeous scrappy tree quilt! Yes please! Way to go Carolina. Love you and your adventures😊
I don’t have failures I have learning opportunities.
I lost most of my sight with a diagnosis 8.25 years ago (somehow I’d not noticed how bad my sight had become over 1.75 years before my diagnosis when I slowly lost my ability to recognise people across the road waving in my direction 🤷♀️ )
I could find myself on a mystery tour after my diagnosis as I’d take a wrong turn and not recognise the blur around me… at first it upset me then I changed my wording so I wasn’t lost I was exploring.
2nd January I started the quilting on the pin basted sandwich…
Well I sewed a couple of pins into the quilting.
Have you considered spray basting or thread basting?
@lynnenicholson6968 maybe basting with a thick thread like 12wt would help with the tactile part? Wishing you success! ❤️

Congratulations for making it on shark tank! That is not a fail at all!! I LOVE the shark quilt! Please make it a pattern!
I didn't make it. I applied. I made it to the 2nd of 4 rounds. ❤️
Trying out for Shark tank is a win! That takes a lot of guts. Your fails make you stronger and more prepared and grounded. It is great that you share these. I just subscribed to your channel. Being real is important, You Rock!, Lisa
Welcome! Glad you're here! It was a dream to try out for Shark Tank... even though I didn't make it on. ❤️
Thank you for sharing!
YES! RELEASE SCRAPPY TREE!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!
Working on it. ❤️
Shoot for a July scrappy tree quilt pattern release! It's pretty! Christmas in July 🎄
That was the goal this year, but something else came up and got in the way. I'll try for earlier... ❤️
That sounds like an incredible Christmas gift! And so much fun!! ❤️
You are a very impressive lady! Good for you!
Awwww... thank you. ❤️
We all have "fails" of some sort, but generally learn from them.
Hopefully we learn. ❤️
That might be my next stater and ender project, wish it was out last year I was looking for something like that this year...❤
I'll work on it!!
I want the scrappy tree quilt pattern! 😊🎄🎄🎄
From these comments, looks like you're not alone! I'll get on it! ❤️
We are all going to failures in life itself. The question is what are we going to do…. We get up learn from the failure or mistake and start again. 😉 Thanks for sharing.
Get kocked down... get back up again. ❤️
Along the lines of failure and failing, I remember a quote from the movie, The Natural. Glenn Close tells Robert Redford (who is feeling like he failed), "I believe we each have two lives. The life we learn with, and the life we live with after that."
I don't know... I think that a life without learning would be pretty dull?
@@CarolinaMoore I should have mentioned that Glenn Close added, “and the life we live with after that; with or without all the trophies.” I took this quote to mean, the life we live with is a result of all the lessons, and we need those lessons for life’s success stories. I feel that you are NOT a failure, you’re just getting lessons for a future filled with MORE success! Thanks for your videos!!!!
I had a friend who was convinced that we are doomed to repeat the lessons we don't learn. Sounds pretty similar, though my friends' sounded more ominous, and yours more hopeful. ❤️
Keep moving forward! Love the shark❤
Thanks! And will do!
There is no such thing as failures. Just opportunities to learn and grow.
I think there are failures... and that we do need to learn from them. ❤️
You made it to the second round of Shark Tank?!?!?! That is amazing! I will be looking forward to buying your scrappy tree quilt pattern as soon as you have it! Since I have to plan my schedule of makes months in advance, the earlier you release it the better 🥰
I did! It was pretty incredible! While it was a bummer not to move forward, it was exciting to have the opportunity!
@CarolinaMoore I am so happy for your experience! And that you even created something worthy of applying is more than most people 🥰
Awww... thanks! ❤️
@CarolinaMoore My pleasure to honestly support you 🥰 I just got the 2024 snowflake card today. I am very excited to make a couple of quilting projects this year. Maybe a Christmas tree quilt..... 🤭
@AntisocialAuntie ❤️❤️❤️
You can't control who else shows up. But you can control if YOU show up. So... keep doing your own best, and keep showing up. ❤️
@ good point! I just started designing quilts so hopefully I’ll create “better” quilts every year.
@lucyblum3456 practice makes progress. ❤️
I don't use the "f" word because I believe it's all a Lear process. You can't fail if you have learned something from the experience. I'm missing the daily advents but I hope you are well! 💗
I'm well! Got the book submitted and we're working on the first round of edits. 🥰
@@CarolinaMoore Great job! I hope you can catch a bit of rest now. The daily videos on top of finishing your book was a rush to end the year but I thank you for it for my part. 😀 Best wishes for 2025!
@QuiltyNana it was a VERY busy end of the year! But good prep for all I have planned in 2025!
Waiting for the release of the scrappy tree😊
I like to think of failures as learning experiences! 😊
They are if you don't want to repeat them! 😆❤️
You should release the scrappy tree quilt now and not later. Not everyone is a fast quitter
Working on it! ❤️
@CarolinaMoore A lighted mirror that reflects back to another mirror facing up. You could be a quilting hero lol!!
I don’t see #1 and #2 as fails at all!🎉
I think that's also part of the point... we're always hardest on ourselves...
What is scrap tape?!

Yes please to the scrappy tree pattern. Thanks for sharing. Your genuineness sets you apart!!❤❤ Much appreciated
Awww... thanks! I was listening to "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert again (it is one of my favorites). She says the Greeks believed one "had a genius" rather than "was a genius." And I love that concept. It keeps one humble, working hard, making sure I deserve the having of any genius that comes my way!
Please release the tree pattern asap so I can have it up for 2025 !
I'll get on it! ❤️
Oh PLEASE DO THE SCRAPPY TREE pattern
It is SO CLOSE to the finish line! ❤️
Applied to be on Shark Tank = bravest crafter ever, imho.
Awww... thanks! ❤️
High praise! Thank you!! ❤️
I love this video. You are wonderful and these are just minor hiccups. Put that tree pattern out now.
Thanks! There is a saying in tech, "move fast and break stuff." hahahaha...
FAIL…first attempt in learning.
The shark would make a great kite. 🪁🪁🪁
Maybe? I think it is a little big to be a kite?
