Thank you for honoring Neil. I will be paying tribute to Professor Peart in a new feature-length video later today. Rest in Peace Neil, we miss you. Best regards, Eric 🙏🏻
Being a drummer at 59 years old. It was Neil in the 70’s, it was Neil in the 80’s, it was Neil in the 90’s and he’s been my inspiration right up until his way too early passing at 67 Jan 7th 2020. Watching him live in concert was truly magical…. Something I’ll never be able to fully express. I lost count on how many times I saw RUSH live in concert. I sincerely appreciate you making all these amazing videos! I subscribed to your TH-cam channel today. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO! 🥁
Well said sir. The Professor transformed drumming forever. The jazz influences we got formerly from Bonzo were still in there, the polyrythmic patterns of Ginger and Copeland. But from Neil I got the search for accuracy at speed with dynamics.
I'm honored by your kind words. Thank you, my friend! I had a full Peart solo in the original cut of this video. But TH-cam knew it was The Rhythm Method, and I got dinged for Copyright. So back to my Avid I went, took out Neil's solo, and added the interview section. My point is, yes, his solos were inspirational and left me awestruck. Over the holidaze I'm releasing a new Trilogy, this one focuses on Neil's lyrics. Book One of this series is out now. Thanks for writing, I'm glad you're here. Eric
Same here, being a drummer at 59 also before i discovered Neil it was John Bonham, Mitchell Mitchell, Keith Moon, etc but when i heard Neil especially 2112, Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures. I was lucky enough to see them in the early 80s and Primus and Rush in the 90s!!!
Seen a show for that tour with Primus too, in Dallas, FRONT ROW, for my birthday even, took a limo too, all of that was my birthday gift from my girlfriend...just...damn!! Brilliant idea too, 2, 3-piece bands, of which, had their own incredibly distinctive sounds!! Could it have got much better?!? Nope, I don't think so!!
Amen. Well said! Stay tuned, I just got home and my little studio room is calling. More videos are coming. I'm not a drummer & don't pretend to know what makes someone technically brilliant. But I know what I like & have listened to many testimonies from other drummers who say how influential Neil was. I love how it wasn't just about the elaborate drum fills or how hard & fast he could play. This video shows how he played subtle rhythms with many influences from his travels to places like China & West Africa. The thinking man's drummer. A great showcase of a wonderful drummer & human being.
This was wonderfully said. "The Thinking Man's drummer" Indeed. Neil was part of the Thinking Man's rock band. You don't have to be a drummer to know that Peart's playing was the definition of exceptional. Thanks for being here, Eric
So, you are right. Neil was very cerebra truly I think in man's drummer. You probably already know this but besides being a great writer he was a great reader, and then he was a great rider. Now I want you to know that I played brush almost myopically growing up I would have done well to play a little more Zepplin along the way. But if you're gonna play Neil Peart, you'd better play them right, so practice practice practice. To be honest with you there was nothing that Neil did that another good drummer couldn't play, eventually. What Neil's greatest talent was besides writing the lyrics was writing the music. His ability to make things just flow from one section of a song to another from one time signature to another. It was the most amazing process I've ever seen. I know there's probably others out there that would correct me on this, but I think and feel that RUSH was the first band that had a lead drummer. There are and will be better drummers technically. What Neil had was something you can't teach and you can't learn. You have to be born with it. That is what makes Neil the GOAT. Happy New Year everyone.
Thanks again for watching, more Rush is coming soon. Eric For your consideration: A 30-song voyage through the Lyrics of Neil Peart & Rush: th-cam.com/video/v_rSjVyGP10/w-d-xo.html
Well said. And this video is "just" Neil practicing, warming up, and exploring ideas. I've said before that if I had permission and the copyright, I'd create an epic compilation of Neil's solos. Totally. I'm a big believer in people being born with innate talents. Neil was designed and blessed with many, and his great upbringing helped make him a good and decent human.
Mega Dittos! Through the years, Neil said that he's more compositional than improvisational. Watching him improvise and explore ideas is like watching genius happen in real-time. I believe, on Snakes and Arrows, Neil began improving some of his parts. On Clockwork Angels he leaned into this even more and enjoyed making up most of his parts in real-time. At least this is my recollection of what happened. You guys can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. :-) Thanks for your note, Eric
Neil was a gift. His lyrics and music with RUSH have been one of the greatest gifts in my life. Thanks for being here bud, stay tuned, I'm releasing a new trilogy over the holidays. Merry Christmas, Eric
As you may know, all of this footage is Neil warming up, practicing, and exploring ideas. It's a behind-the-scenes look at the man behind the set. This does not reflect the brilliance of Peart's finished solos. The original cut of this video included an unreleased live drum solo from the Counterparts tour. Because of copyright issues, I had to remove it. You're right! I'm still inspired by Neil's work ethic, tenacity, determination, and unwavering dedication to the art of writing, and as he put it, "hitting things with sticks" Thanks for watching. I'm glad you're here 🙂 Eric
But do you know how he got the title of "the professor?" It had nothing to do with his drumming. I'm not sure who it was, probably Geddy or Alex. The reason he's called the professor is because someone noticed he looked like the Professor on Gilligan's Island.
Ged, Bench, and Beyond! A new store! Just for RUSH fans. I could keep riffing on this one, but I'll save that for a future LIVE show. As always, it's great to hear from you bud. Merry Christmas! Eric
Such a complete inspiration, on both drumming (I've been playing over 40 years now) and writing. Without Neil, I would never have written the second book I've published. He will always be missed. R I P Neil.
Wow, we have a lot in common. I started playing drums in 3rd grade, earlier if you count the single bongo drum that was a family heirloom. Even after taking up sax in high school, I still consider myself a drummer. Neil inspired me to read more and then write my novel Aretherra: Aero & The Keys of Ascension. I still haven't finished book one of the Aretherra series, but I have numerous chapters available on my website. BTW, world-building is hard work! But it's been a pleasure the whole time. I'm 67. And a drummer myself. The first time I seen Neil was 1976 in concert 2112 tour. Great he was back then and as time went on he became the G.O.A.T R.I.P Mr. PERT
2112 was your first Rush Concert?! NICE. As I've said in several videos, 2112 was my first Rush experience, and the first Rush cassette I purchased. 2112 changed everything! I've never looked back; Rush has and will remain #1 for the rest of my days. I started my musical journey on drums. 4th grade in elementary school I learned how to play. I could already read music, from being raised in a church that sings only acapella. The ability to sing four-part harmony, along with piano lessons, set me up to inherit our family Conn "naked lady" tenor sax. (Charlie Parker played a naked lady alto sax) In grade nine I started playing sax, and the ladies love a sax player. LOL Anyway, I still consider myself a drummer. Steering wheel drumming along with Peart is a master class in percussion. Well, sort of. Thank you for reaching out, please stay in touch. I'm glad you're here. Beautiful note, thank you. We share a similar story. I "discovered" Rush at 14, and Roll the Bones was my first concert in Worcester MA. I was probably 16, and my seat was above Alex's side of the stage. The Presto inflatable bunnies were still on stage. 🙂 I'm not sure why, I've never questioned why, but assumed they returned for financial reasons. LoL Those suckers must have been an expensive stage prop for Presto! 🙂 It's awesome to meet you, thanks for writing! HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎊 God bless you and yours, Eric Rush Prophecy? Not sure what I enjoyed more… The video of Neil just drumming for 36 min… Or reading through the comments section… I fell in love with rush day one in 74 when I heard the album and to me Neil was elite just as the whole band was… But to read how he effected so many of the listeners And commenters on here is incredible… 🤘🔥

GOAT for sure. I keep seeing things on TH-cam about the greatest drummers of all time, and for some reason he always ends up second. There can be no doubt. 🤟RIP
my only regret is that this video isn't in stereo. i watched every second. one thing that blows my my mind is just how aware neil is of where *every single piece* of equipment is. he barely looks at ANYTHING! he just plays away.
Weird it's not in stereo for you. I wonder if it was captured splitting the stereo channels as a pair, putting both in left and right, not discreet channels unto themselves. My apologies. I'll make adjustments to the settings. These may be fine for spoken word, especially for you guys watching on a phone, but not for a proper sound system. I'll make this happen when I get home, I'm currently on Cape Cod for our great Christmas gathering. I'll then listen to the stereo mix on my 6.1 home theater. Thanks for watching, and letting me know this! 🙂 Eric

Well said bud. I didn't get to see R30, as I was too busy raising our 4 kids, and at the time my career in the TV film industry. The point is I missed a couple during the comeback years. 😢 But was there in Austin, for Snakes & Arrows. Thanks for watching bud, Eric

I was always amazed at the size of Neil Pearts’ drum kit, but what amazed me even more is the fact that he used the entire thing. He didn’t leave any unused real estate on that kit. He used chimes, bells, gongs, wood blocks, etc. Neil was the prime drummer of the time. He had no rival.
BEYOND AN AMAZING DRUMMER I WAS ALWAYS BLOWN AWAY I JUST COULD NEVER AND STILL HAVE NOT CARED FOR " RUSH MUSIC " IT'S JUST NOT FOR ME AT ALL BUT WHAT HE DID AS A PERSON AND DRUMMER TO THE DRUMMING WORLD WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN REST.IN.PARADISE. MR. PROFESSOR

I love seeing Neil on a smaller kit. I'm a bass player and a beginning level drummer so I have some understanding of what he could do. But on the smaller kit there's less lateral movement so I get a better grasp of what his hands were doing. Love it. Love Neil. Love Rush
Well said. It's the artist, not the tools. With only a snare, Neil could blow my mind. Peart's A Show of Hands solo, circa '89, was my introduction to the majesty of the potential of a drum solo. As a young and green drummer, I listened to every nuance, consumed by every beat. Neil's snare section is legendary, if you haven't heard it, please check it out. My original cut of this video included The Rhythm Method. But it was tagged for copyright, so I made a new cut and included Neil's interview. Thanks for being here! Merry Christmas, Eric
What set him apart was just how unbelievably clean everything was. Absolutely zero sloppiness in his playing even late in R40 when he had arthritis in both shoulders. Just look at his drum heads. The size of a nickle in the middle. Almost AI/robotic level of accuracy. Even some really insanely technical drummers have occasionally shown some sloppiness. Neil never did
One of a kind. It's my pleasure making these videos, but it's an honor to hear from you. By extension, we're honoring Neil, and keeping his memory alive. Yes, Neil was humble. Arguably, the world's greatest drummer wanted only to travel anonymously; he sipped his morning coffee and talked to locals unrecognized, just as he liked it. That's why I referenced "hitting things with sticks" Neil downplayed, no pun intended, his drumming prowess with this expression. Peart, Geddy, and Alex were working men. They were dedicated to creating art with integrity but never forgot why they achieved success. As Geddy said once, "Our fans, I bless their hearts every day" Thanks for writing bud, Eric

The entire Trilogy will be released over the Holidays. Thank you for being here! Eric The Prophecy, Predictions & Pattern Recognition of Rush Lyrics th-cam.com/video/KVXlnG6fW8g/w-d-xo.html
That's funny, but true! When Neil was a kid, his first "drum set" was several magazines spread across his bed. He would hit these with sticks, playing along to rock songs on the radio. Although Neil played some of the best drum sets and cymbals ever created, I believe he remained humble. This humility is perfectly expressed when Neil would say that he's just "hitting things with sticks" Thank you, Mark! Eric
At least in the top five, saw Rush live 28 times between 1976 and their farewell tour, I'm a guitar player but Neil and Geddy with Alex, well it is just unbeatable, such an awesome trio!!
What a ride! That's a lot of shows. Rush was three of the best players and a super group like no other. Geddy and Neil both said, that when Ged's not singing, they're all soloing at the same time. What a sonic force they were! Thanks for writing, Eric
One of my favorite drummers. One thing Peart was able to leverage from progressive rock that other drummers didn't was the melodic side of the drums. Nobody did that better. For the drummers....ever listen (or see) Vinnie Colaiuta? I was lucky enough to see him with Zappa. For that style of music (as well as jazz), he's certainly one that's got to be up in the ranks....just another one of my favorites that I thought I'd mention, since I've been listening to him today.
Hey Bud, you're so right. As you know, Neil composed his parts to frame or accentuate the lyrics and melody. A world-class drummer and lyricist at the same time? Ridiculous. Neil also tuned his drums with precision, played, as you pointed out, melodically, and then had the same drum tech for decades. In addition, his solos! Because of copyright, my original edit included an unreleased solo, circa Counterparts, but I had to remove and added his interview footage. My long-awaited point is, Neil's solos were pieces of melodic music unto themselves. The multipart Clockwork Angels solo comes to mind. Beautiful. Then when he added the big band jazz stuff at the end, I was ecstatic. I'm a jazz nerd, and sax player, beyond my ability to play drums. Thank you very much for touching base with us. I'm glad you're here, please keep in touch. Neil era un maestro de las letras y la percusión. Como tenemos toda una vida de música y palabras de RUSH, la inspiración de Peart en nuestras vidas continuará por el resto de nuestros días. Gracias por estar aquí, amigo. Eric Neil was a master of lyrics and percussion. Because we have a lifetime of music and words from RUSH, Peart's inspiration in our lives will continue on for the rest of our days. Thank you for being here my friend. Eric
Agreed. Neil's live solos were a blissful musical experience. Music is timeless and powerful! At the concerts, thousands of us air drummed along with Neil! So beautiful. 🥁 As a drummer, I'm a little biased. But that was how good he was; it made non-drummers want to pick up some sticks and learn to play like Peart! Thanks bud, Eric
No musician lives in a vacuum, Neil's right. Everyone was influenced by what came before them (whether they're aware of it or not). The only question is whether the casual, mainstream listener has been exposed to those artists or not. As a 62-year-old professional drummer and Berklee grad, I'd say that there are nearly an endless number of truly phenomenal players out there that you simply aren't familiar with. I feel Neil's strengths were his ongoing dedication to the craft and his analytical approach to compositional drumming... his being given the luxury of having the rough tracks to 'compose' his drum parts/sections over weeks/months was invaluable to creating those unique parts to the songs. That is a luxury that most of us don't have... especially drummers... we're frequently nearly seen as an after thought, insultingly. Remember... there is no "best" in the arts, only your personal favorite.
Wow, thank you. We're better off having you as part of our Rush Family. Your knowledge and insight make us better. In high school, I played at Berklee in a jazz competition. I was playing tenor sax by then. My drumming roots run deep, and I still consider myself a drummer as well as a sax player. You're right, our opinions of who we like are based on experience, observation, and evidence. Sure, a case can be made that Peart is one of the best of all time. But of course there are numerous drummers around the world, many of which will never be known, who are exceptional and worthy of the highest praise. For this reason, I want to dedicate some of my upcoming live stream shows to DRUMMING and DRUMMERS around the globe. Stick around bud, were just getting started here at The Loudboy Experience. Eric

I miss him too! As a drummer, writer, thinker, and lyricist, Neil was a mentor I never met. His inspiration will never be matched. Thanks for writing, Eric
@@PowertotheHIGHIQPeopleYeah, there’s a long list of drummers that can do stuff better than Neil. Neil was very good. But anyone who thinks he was unmatched needs to listen to music besides common Rock and pop. Names? Did get to meet him by accident🤣. Drunk with cover band Limelight at Jones Beach New York. I had a 54 Ford F100 we were tailgaiting. Neil and Brutus pulled up on their motorcycles and asked if they could take our pics with the truck. My daughter had painted the first album on the door. They took our pic and then we realized who it was ! He shook our hand and thanked us and drove into soundcheck. Into the eye of the storm they opened with and it was starting to pour a bit 🤣! Coolest memorie of Neil !
@bobbyboombatz1489 😲🤯!!! I want this story told in full soon. I plan on starting a Live stream Rush show shortly. I'd love to have you tell it! Wow! During the motorcycle years, when Neil was traveling across the US between dates, I kept an eye out for a tour bus and trailer. Once I saw one drive away from a truck stop. Dude that's amazing! Eric
@@TheLoudboyExperience it was a 2 hr drive from Ct and wanted to be really early. Just lucky that day. That was his first tour by motorcycle. I’m 52 Yrs old and got turned on into Rush, by a friend of mine from playing basketball at a local park every day. My car was not working and he told me he could take me to college in West Palm Beach Florida until my car was fixed. Unbeknownst that he had rush the first time I sat in Mike’s car. That was. About 1991. In 1992 I saw my first concert ever, that was a Joe Robbie stadium and it was my first time I got to REALLY FEEL CONNECTED to Music like I’ve never been before. Let me tell you that was like a religious experience with over 110,000 people at Joe Robbie stadium. That begun I ferocious passion for music. I’m not quite sure if you know how many RUSH concerts I’ve been to in the past, but insanely it’s probably been about the same times I’ve seen Phil Collins solo act, and Genesis combined. It’s roughly about 12 or 13 each. The crazy part is I just found out just tonight that Neil Peart, Who passed away from a brain tumor a couple years back sadly, and it’s the same thing the lead singer of Roxette Mary Fredrickson passed away from. But to hear that clip tonight that I just sent you, read that makes me appreciate music EVEN MORE. Phil Collins, as a drummer was a BAD AZZZ. What’s even more sad is that during Covid? I had bought tickets to go see Genesis MetLife Stadium in New York, and obviously I chose not to go because of Covid. That was their LAST CONCERT EVER

I have all his books. Great author. Such a gifted writer. Ghost Rider, is an exceptionally heartbreaking. That was tough to get through. Roadshow is great. Cool stories while on the R30 tour. Traveling Music is about a road trip he took and writes about the music he listened to while on a getaway. I do recommend all of his books. Im honored to have most of mine signed. Any collectors of Neil memorabilia out there?
🙂 I have all his books as well. Ghost Rider is an extremely difficult read. Down every painful mile of the road, we went on that journey with Neil. Like most of his lyrics, the story ended with a message of hope. Turning the page to the last chapter, when he meets Carrie, was exhilarating and filled me with optimism. Neil is greatly missed. His approach to life was beyond commendable. His drumming skills unmatched and unique. If he was your hero too, we could have done a lot worse. Does anyone have any news about the statues of him St. Catherines was putting up next to Lakeside Park? I haven't found much news on it. Any new info would be appreciated. 🤘🥁❤️

LOL, yes. This video is a compilation of Neil warming up, practicing, and exploring ideas. If I had permission and the copyright to his recorded solos, I would create an epic compilation video spanning several hours. But alas, I'm not Rush. When I get back home, I can't wait to fire up my Avid system and edit some ideas that have come to me while up here in New England for Christmas. Thanks for being here, please keep in touch, Eric
It wasn't about how good Neil had to be, it was how good Phil Collins, Bruford, and others had to be to equal the professor. RIP Mr Peart. When he played with the Buddy Rich big band, I knew, and every other drummer that cared knew, that he had eclipsed all of them.
Well said! I've mentioned the Burning for Buddy albums and concerts in these comments. I've played jazz for most of my life, mainly saxophone. Like you, watching Neil play Buddy Rich music was incredible and said volumes about who he was as a drummer. Thank you very much for writing and sharing. I'm glad you're part of our Rush Family. @@TheLoudboyExperience It's so refreshing to hear from a Jazz/fusion musician who appreciates Neil, and Rush, KIng Crimson, Yes, and so many other early fusion bands/ musicians. One of my all time favorites is Al Dimeola, Race with the Devil on a Spanish Highway!
Never noticed the china with the sizzles until this video. But what a great soul he was. Alex gets arrested.🤪 Geddy sings his national anthem for 24 minutes at a ball game,🤪 but NEVER, EVER, EVER has one thing negative been wrote, said, filmed, mumbled of Neil Peart. A loss beyond words.
LOL, well said. Yes, a loss felt around the world. One that affects me to this day. As far as I know, Neil was a man of integrity. He did his best to be a good and decent man while walking the face of the Earth. I appreciate you being here bud, please stay in touch, Eric
@ldcsam1 This makes me very sad. On his Ghost Rider travels it was the majesty of creation that gave Neil comfort and perspective. His lyrics reflect the glory of God's creation, and he spoke about the value of love and family. And yet... If only I had a time machine and an opportunity to share with Neil the truth about God, the Gospel, and what true religion is. 😢 I appreciate your note. Thank you. Eric
When they were recording Snakes & Arrows producer Nick Raskulinecz had to ask Neil to rerecord the verses to one of the songs. Neil was already exhausted from recording all day. But Nick felt they were dragging some and hesitantly asked Professor Peart to do it again. Can you imagine? And yet, it's a reason like this is why Rush wanted to work with Nick. Of course, all of them want to make the best music possible, ever they reached for excellence, and Neil gave them new and different treatments for every verse. Thanks for being here! Eric
Hi!! Looking for help with my ride technique, and I noticed that Neil mostly hited the ride formin a 90° angle with the snare drumstick Has anyone worked on this? does it affects ergonometry or gives you a boost in your playing?? Thanx!!

I could spend the rest of my life learning Rush tunes as a drummer, (45 years and counting) and not even get there. When I am lucky enough to see some of the younger talent out there that is doing this, it warms my heart. ( I'm 67 with serious back and arthritis issues in my hands, I still do what I can! I don't play professionally anymore, but I still dream Rush.....and every other fusion bands I've heard! Plus Dream Theatre, Tool, etc...lol
Age, it catches up with all of us! Not to be cliched, but I feel your pain. I've suffered from arthritis for years. Because of two reconstructive neck surgeries, I live in chronic pain, which affected me so badly that I finally had to get disability. However, I'm alive and not completely paralyzed, and this is a miracle given I could have wound up exactly like Christopher Reeves. Anyway, life history aside, thank you very much for being here. What Neil had that a lot of other drummers don't quite get is the musicality. Being able to blast beat and hit 80 times a second doesn't make you great.
Yes! Extremely Musical! Neil, Geddy, and Alex were also dedicated husbands, fathers, and brothers to each other. Meaning Rush was the right kind of Masculine as well. Thanks for writing bud, Eric

It's not Merry Xmas you can't take Christ out of Christmas grow up, Neil was a great drummer but nothing like Buddy Rich hands down if you know anything about technician work no man could even come close to Buddy Rich.!
@AnthonymPacchioli I was mirroring an earlier comment that said Xmas. My sincere apologies for the shorthand. I agree more than you can imagine with your response. I normally say and refer to this holiday as Christmas. I have been a Christian since I was 14 when my Dad baptized me in our friend's swimming pool. Please accept my apology. Yes, Buddy Rich was a singular talent. It's fitting that Neil recorded two tribute albums, and was friends with the Rich family. Thanks for writing, Merry Christmas my friend. Eric

Yes please! All of my videos are full 1080p HD. With every video I create, my production pipeline, from capture/recording to Avid editing, rendering, and output uses huge HD codecs to maintain as much quality as possible. Frankly, the Avid HD codec I render to and from is overkill. I've been creating videos for over 30 years. I began in the Jurassic age of editing SVHS tapes and now I edit on my modern Avid Media Composer. No matter the media or system on which I've edited, or when I'm creating in Photoshop, I have always aimed for the quality of the highest order. Wow, I've digressed into the depths of my tech brain. LOL Thanks again, Eric
Unless you count footage of Neil's Buddy Rich tribute concerts, this is the first time I've seen him use brushes. In elementary school, I remember learning to play with brushes. I'm sure I looked at my ancient band teacher and said, "Why are we doing this?!" I wanted to make as much noise as possible, I wanted to play loud! Go figure, 40 years later and I still love loud music and blowing stuff up when I play Tears of the Kingdom. Eric
Seriously! 🙂 The extended final section is Neil from his Anatomy of a Drum Solo DVD. It's called "exploration" - as in Neil exploring ideas and concepts for his solos. We're blessed this was recorded for posterity. Imagine the countless hours of practice and exploration that Neil did in private! Eric
I wouldn't say hate. Based on what I've gleaned from interviews with him, Geddy, and fans who met him, Neil was uncomfortable with an outpouring of adulation. When he was younger, Neil said he never felt compelled to chase down and meet the bands he admired. Because of this, I guess he couldn't understand how we would be honored to meet him. After Ghost Rider, Geddy and Alex wanted to protect him from being inundated with questions about that painful period. So only Ged and Alex did meet and greets. Peart was surprisingly humble, given who he was and what he could do. Given all of Neil's need for privacy, he shared literal volumes about his life, and good, bad and ugly. Perhaps this was his way of giving many of us what we wanted, to know the man behind the drum set. Thanks for the great question, Eric
I have no idea. Can one of you drummers field this question, please? 🙂 We'll find out. I've heard from numerous drummers in these comment sections. Thanks bud, Eric
He absolutely is. I kept rewatching whatever footage showed him hitting them from a side angle and he's definitely getting rim shots in. He makes it look so effortless.
I've always liked DW as well. These are not indicative of Neil's sound from the studio to the concert halls. This video is a few examples of his practice, warm-up, and exploration from "Anatomy of a Drum Solo" I've wanted a set for years, and someday, when I have the space and means, I'm getting one. I miss playing, and I would love some DW with Sabian Paragons of course 🙂 Thanks for writing! Eric
Just a little bit, yes ;-) Neil was friends with the Rich family while creating the Buddy Rich "Burnin' for Buddy" tribute albums. Thanks for writing, Eric
It was Neil who called drumming "hitting things with sticks" Are brushes made up of a group of thin metal sticks? LoL, now we're getting into what I tell my wife and kid when they take me to task on something I've said. I call this "lawyering up" Thanks bud, Eric
LoL, yes, brushes 🙂 if you haven't yet, check out Neil's two "Burning for Buddy" Buddy Rich tribute albums. DJ Jazzy Peart in the house! 😉 With the upmost respect and honor I made that joke. Rest in Peace Professor Peart 😢
Artificial so-called Intelligence is for untalented attention-seeking hacks 🙂 If I had permission and the copyright for all of Neil's drum solos, I would personally create an epic compilation video on my Avid editing system. But I'm not Rush, and this video is a behind-the-scenes look at Neil's practice, warm-up, and exploration of drumming ideas. Thanks for writing bud, I'm glad you're here, Eric
Today, I pay respect to the great and legendary Neil Peart who we lost on this day 1/7/2020.
You are definitely missed Neil.
A fan
RIP 🙏
I saw Rush with Primus as well. 🙂 So many good memories we have!
Absolute fantastic beast of a drummer and in my opinion he is God's gift to us all.
Amen. Well said!
Stay tuned, I just got home and my little studio room is calling. More videos are coming.
Thank you, Eric

Eric

Hence his nickname the "Professor."
He was a better drummer than he was a human being.
To say anybody's better than Neil is just criminal. 💖
Well said. And this video is "just" Neil practicing, warming up, and exploring ideas.
I've said before that if I had permission and the copyright, I'd create an epic compilation of Neil's solos. But I'm not Rush 🙂

Neil was born with this talent and skill and rhythm....he just refined it through the years.MISS YOU NEIL AND RUSH❤
Totally. I'm a big believer in people being born with innate talents. Neil was designed and blessed with many, and his great upbringing helped make him a good and decent human.
That man really influenced my love for drums, thank you Neil Peart. (what really gets me is how structured his drumming is). So clean!
Thanks for your note, Eric
What a gift to music. Long live Professor Pratt!
Neil was a gift. His lyrics and music with RUSH have been one of the greatest gifts in my life. Thanks for being here bud, stay tuned, I'm releasing a new trilogy over the holidays. Merry Christmas, Eric
Neil Peart.
@MichaelMillilo-d7r nuff said.
the technical dexterity I see of Neil in his solos doesnt impress me as much as his determination and dedication as a musician.
I'm still inspired by Neil's work ethic, tenacity, determination, and unwavering dedication to the art of writing, and as he put it, "hitting things with sticks"
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you're here 🙂

The Professor 🥁🎶🎼🎵🥁🥁
YES! Bubba & The Professor. Rest in Peace Neil.
Thanks for watching, Eric
But do you know how he got the title of "the professor?" It had nothing to do with his drumming. I'm not sure who it was, probably Geddy or Alex. The reason he's called the professor is because someone noticed he looked like the Professor on Gilligan's Island.
Neil Is The Whole Bench And Beyond. Eric the modern day warrior

LOL
Anyway, I still consider myself a drummer.

GOAT for sure. I keep seeing things on TH-cam about the greatest drummers of all time, and for some reason he always ends up second. There can be no doubt. 🤟RIP
🙂 Thank you, Eric
my only regret is that this video isn't in stereo. i watched every second. one thing that blows my my mind is just how aware neil is of where *every single piece* of equipment is. he barely looks at ANYTHING! he just plays away.

Well said bud. I didn't get to see R30, as I was too busy raising our 4 kids, and at the time my career in the TV film industry. The point is I missed a couple during the comeback years. 😢 But was there in Austin, for Snakes & Arrows.
Thanks for watching bud, Eric
He was GENIUS !
As a drummer, lyricist, and man, yes he was!

MR. PROFESSOR
Beautiful. Now that's inspiration. Thanks for being here bud, Eric

Rush Prophecy Trilogy Special Edition - The Lyrics of Neil Peart
th-cam.com/video/v_rSjVyGP10/w-d-xo.html
I hope to continue our conversation with the Live Rush Show after the first of the year. Stay tuned for updates.

We call him The Professor, he refered to himself as an advanced apprentice. His humility earned him great respect. One of my top influences 🥁
As Geddy said once, "Our fans, I bless their hearts every day"
Thanks for writing bud, Eric

The Prophecy, Predictions
& Pattern Recognition of Rush Lyrics
th-cam.com/video/KVXlnG6fW8g/w-d-xo.html
Just ran across this tonight...OMG! What a true master. He could done all that with a bucket and steel pot, lol!
That's funny, but true! When Neil was a kid, his first "drum set" was several magazines spread across his bed. He would hit these with sticks, playing along to rock songs on the radio.
Although Neil played some of the best drum sets and cymbals ever created, I believe he remained humble.
This humility is perfectly expressed when Neil would say that he's just "hitting things with sticks"
Thank you, Mark!
Eric
No denying this man’s talent, intelligence, and grace…RIP Professor..
Well said. Thank you, Eric
Keep in mind that this is just how he warms up...
Exactly! Thank you. I've had to explain this to several people. 🙂
So awesome and not replaceable
At least in the top five, saw Rush live 28 times between 1976 and their farewell tour, I'm a guitar player but Neil and Geddy with Alex, well it is just unbeatable, such an awesome trio!!
@@richardmoser6051I have seen Rush only twice perform live, but it was with John Rutsey playing drums. Must have been close to 50 years ago.
It's too bad that you never got to see Neil perform. Yes, that was a very long time ago. RIP Rutsey. RIP Professor Peart.
Thanks, Eric
True. When Neil was born, they broke the mold. Never again.
Eric
What a ride! That's a lot of shows. Rush was three of the best players and a super group like no other. Geddy and Neil both said, that when Ged's not singing, they're all soloing at the same time. What a sonic force they were! Thanks for writing, Eric
Mesmerizing! Ok..I need to practice now😊
That's the spirit! Let's be inspired by greatness! Let's be motivated to seize the day and consistently strive for excellence.
Merry Christmas, Eric

Neil was a master of lyrics and percussion. Because we have a lifetime of music and words from RUSH, Peart's inspiration in our lives will continue on for the rest of our days. Thank you for being here my friend. Eric
He’s the best that there ever was…AND he was a poet
Beautiful huh? Like my Dad, Neil was a Renaissance man. An inspiration to us all.

One of the best live. A favorite and in the top 10 all time percussionists
Agreed. Neil's live solos were a blissful musical experience.
Music is timeless and powerful!
At the concerts, thousands of us air drummed along with Neil! So beautiful. 🥁
As a drummer, I'm a little biased.

Hey Bobby,
The response to this video has blown my mind. I'm humbled by the outpouring of stories, shared experiences, and memories you guys have shared. Together, we are keeping Neil's memory alive. The Professor's memory lives on through his lyrics and music, but also through us. Neil was the mentor I never met, and I'm sure many of you share this with me.

It wasn't about how good Neil had to be, it was how good Phil Collins, Bruford, and others had to be to equal the professor. RIP Mr Peart. When he played with the Buddy Rich big band, I knew, and every other drummer that cared knew, that he had eclipsed all of them.

I'll say something negative about Neil. He was an atheist.
I appreciate your note. Thank you. Eric
Neil was a great drummer whose kit kept growing and growing. He was at the level of Buddy Rich but was close.
Okay, Neil, microphone didn't quite catch that snare at 24:15 (whatever). Can you take it from the top again? 😁

Neil Peart's Lyrics: th-cam.com/video/v_rSjVyGP10/w-d-xo.html
Stay in touch, Eric

Greatest drummer in history !!!!!
Yep! 🙂
Eric
Would have loved to see Neil play more swing and jazz.
Check out my other response for more Peart Jazz music.
Thanks bud, Eric
Professor ...
Bubba & The Professor - we miss Neil Peart
What Neil had that a lot of other drummers don't quite get is the musicality. Being able to blast beat and hit 80 times a second doesn't make you great.
Yes! Extremely Musical!
Neil, Geddy, and Alex were also dedicated husbands, fathers, and brothers to each other. Meaning Rush was the right kind of Masculine as well.
Thanks for writing bud, Eric
My friends, thank you very much for checking out this video of Neil practicing, warming up, and exploring. It's not for everyone, but I know that you "get it" and it's an honor that you stopped by to check this out.
I look forward to vibrant discussion and debate in the upcoming livestream Rush show.
Tonight I was inspired to create drum-centered videos. But some of these ideas may be best explored in real-time with each other on a live show.
Thank you again, this coming year is going to be amazing! You're part of our global Rush Family and I'm honored you're here!
Merry Christmas , Eric

Eric
Thank you for watching this Neil Peart video. More is coming soon.
I'm glad you're here!

I'm no expert, but I'd say Neil got pretty good at drumming.
I think you're on to something. Neil was pretty good. ;-)
Thanks Moose Guy!
Eric
We still have a long way to go to hit that 2k, I know that we can make it happen, I would love nothing more than to see it happen, please y'all hit that sub button.
You're awesome my friend! Thank you for your continued support. I'll continue releasing the latest Rush Trilogy throughout the crazy holidaze. We're en route to Cape Cod for a massive Christmas family gathering, but I created four new videos ahead of time. Stay tuned, more Rush is on the way.
I hope you'll join me as a big part of the Live Rush show I'm hosting after the first of the year. I need you on my team, take care bud, Eric
The brother of Tom Hanks 😂
I don't completely get your meaning, but still, I find this funny. Thanks bud, Eric
About 10 minutes in turned up Video Quality to get a better look at the Drum Kit...
LOL
Thanks again, Eric
Cant believe these guys had to wear badges...
🙂
Damn i miss his words.
Me too!
Brushes? Wow
Saw him 4 x Rush the best. Brushes wow
Eric
Does he have an off switch
Eric
Did Neil hate meeting fans?
I will forever worship at the altar of Peart. Rest in Paradise 🕯️🥁👑
He is missed. May Neil Rest in Peace.
Thanks, Eric
Is he rim shotting the higher toms?
I have no idea. Can one of you drummers field this question, please? 🙂
We'll find out. I've heard from numerous drummers in these comment sections.
Thanks bud, Eric
He absolutely is. I kept rewatching whatever footage showed him hitting them from a side angle and he's definitely getting rim shots in. He makes it look so effortless.
DW drums are sinply the best sounding and looking drums on the market. This is one mans opinion of course. Thos recording doesn't do them justice.
I've always liked DW as well. These are not indicative of Neil's sound from the studio to the concert halls. This video is a few examples of his practice, warm-up, and exploration from "Anatomy of a Drum Solo"
I've wanted a set for years, and someday, when I have the space and means, I'm getting one. I miss playing, and I would love some DW with Sabian Paragons of course 🙂
Thanks for writing!
Eric
Neil Peart may have been influenced by Buddy Rich before his passing.
Just a little bit, yes ;-) Neil was friends with the Rich family while creating the Buddy Rich "Burnin' for Buddy" tribute albums.
Thanks for writing, Eric
Move over Buddy Rich!
2:23 click bait those are brushes not sticks.
LoL! You got me.
It was Neil who called drumming "hitting things with sticks"
Are brushes made up of a group of thin metal sticks? LoL, now we're getting into what I tell my wife and kid when they take me to task on something I've said. I call this "lawyering up"
Thanks bud, Eric
@@TheLoudboyExperiencesounds like gaslighting to me, Kamala. 🤣
@therealmatthewsmith OUCH! PLEASE take that back! LoL 😆
@ okay sorry
G..O.A.T
Amen. Thanks bud, Eric
IS HE USING BRUSHES ???? WTH !!!😮
LoL, yes, brushes 🙂 if you haven't yet, check out Neil's two "Burning for Buddy" Buddy Rich tribute albums.
DJ Jazzy Peart in the house! 😉
With the upmost respect and honor I made that joke. Rest in Peace Professor Peart 😢
I was hoping this AI generated content would have included old footage from when he was at his peak playing ability.
Artificial so-called Intelligence is for untalented attention-seeking hacks 🙂
If I had permission and the copyright for all of Neil's drum solos, I would personally create an epic compilation video on my Avid editing system.
But I'm not Rush, and this video is a behind-the-scenes look at Neil's practice, warm-up, and exploration of drumming ideas.
Thanks for writing bud, I'm glad you're here, Eric
