Like any great loss, January 7th is a date I wish I could forget. As if 2020 wasn't horrific enough, with global tyranny on the rise in the name of a flu virus, WE LOST OUR Professor. We LOST RUSH. Yes, it still hurts! I didn't listen to any music for six months. I was in mourning, and I didn't know it at the time. I'm thankful that you're here to honor Neil Peart. Keeping his memory and the legacy of Rush alive is our duty and a way in which we can repay them for decades of Music & Lyrics. Thank you very much, please keep in touch, Eric
I know there were aspects of touring that Neil disliked, but the actual playing of the drums for 3 hours each show wasn't one of them. You can see by the way he talks about putting together his solo he's like a kid on Xmas morning. Discovering new rhythms, time signatures, influences. For him it wasn't about how furiously he could play or how many fireworks he could set off during his solo. He genuinely loved his craft and that care & attention rubbed off on every Rush fan. A unique man and as I write this on the 5th anniversary of his passing, someone who is sorely missed. My thoughts as ever go out to Carrie, Olivia, every Rush fan and those 2 other 'guys at work'.
This is a beautiful note, well said my friend. Thank you. Neil loved his artform. Neil had a curious, towering intellect, and a love of life. When he lost everything, he found solace and perspective while riding his motorcycle through the majesty of this beautiful Earth. In a stunning rebirth story, Neil found Carrie, they created Olivia, and with his renewed spirit, Rush was reborn as well. I am still amazed by this, and it gives me comfort to know that a new life came into our world, because Neil was strong enough to Hold On until he could find love again. Yes, it's the anniversary, a date I'd rather forget, as back in 2020, it became one of the darkest days of my life. We Hold On and try to hold our faith in the goodness of humanity. We're here to honor the life of Neil E Peart. I gave Neil's initials to my son when he was born in 2013. Nathan Eric Patrick G or NEP G. After Neil passed on, I wanted to change my son's second middle name to Nathan Eric Peart G, but my wife wouldn't allow it. I tried. :-) Thank you, Michael, you're a cherished member of our Rush Family. Take care my friend, Eric
I grew up near Geddy Lee.... I am 60 this month and I have seen Rush over 100 times... I have been backstage in the R30 tour.... I have oics and my pass... Neil will never be replaced... I played drums since 1969 at age 4 my uncle was Billy Powell from Lynyrd Skynyrd and I cant play as good as Neil... I can play all of Rush music... But not as effortlessly as him.. He will never be forgotten... Happy birthday prof....
This is 33 Minutes of Neil Peart being NEIL PEART. Thank you for being here. Thank you for being part of our Rush Family. Let's sit back and enjoy the genius of Neil, as we honor and keep his memory alive! Stay tuned. I'm working on several new videos, and I look forward to seeing all of you in the future! Thanks for your support, Eric
It’s so relaxing to watch and listen to Neil play in this video. It’s like he’s channeling some raw energy from “out there” in the galaxy. The magic of frequency and time. It’s mesmerizing…
I’m very happy that I got to see him in concert way back on the hemispheres tour and watch him do his drum solo from stage left. Got to meet Alex and Geddy too. Great memories! Thanks Neil!!!
I know. One of our fellow Rush Family members reminded me earlier. A celebration is for the life and man that we lost. It's up to us to keep his memory alive. RIP Professor Peart Eric
First off, thanks for posting this! Neil inspired sooo many people to pick up a set of sticks. I remember hearing his “Exit….Stage Left” solo and was absolutely dumbfounded by his skill. He was a rock drummer that would absolutely shred on his entire kit! He would start off on the snare then add bass drums and hi-hat then solo on his concert toms then add timbales to it then his whimsical signature cowbell segment and move to his gong bass drums and solo on that for a bit then finish his solo with thundering quads. There was no one else like him. My only gripe was him endorsing DW. Don’t get me wrong; they were some of the most beautifully crafted drums but their sound was forgettable. I’ve never cared for his sound after “Counterparts”. His r40 kit didn’t project worth a damn and they are/were just too dark sounding. After playing for decades I completely understand why he felt like he came to a plateau but Freddie Gruber was a snake oil salesman. I’ve seen 2 videos of him behind a fully mic’d drum kit and he doesn’t play a single note. I saw this video before I even knew Neil was working with him and thinking to myself “he’s got a decent approach so let’s see how he applies his technique”…………never saw it. Not one note. As a fan of Neil I feel like he lost something after working with Freddie. There were no more creative drum parts and some of Neil’s classic fills he didn’t play like he did on the album and Neil enjoyed sounding like the record because he spent so much time crafting his parts. All of that said Neil will always be my absolute favorite drummer regardless of the things he did that I didn’t care for. Those gripes didn’t keep me from buying concert tickets and merchandise when I went to see them live. I wish he would’ve stuck with Ludwig and ditched the DW kits.
Just finished Geddy's boof, My E'fin Life. I have always been and always be a true follower of Rush and love this man (the other two too...they are a package deal!).
Hey Mike, you're welcome. Yes, it's from the Drum Solo DVD. It says a lot that Neil exploring, or "practicing" for 30 minutes is entertaining to us. Neil was the Lyrics guy, our teacher, The Professor, the GOAT Drummer, and one of the "guys at work". Stay tuned. I have some more from that disc coming your way. Thanks bud, Eric
I know! For a while now, okay, years, I've wanted my own drum set. I've wondered if I could pitch it to a doctor or insurance as a "workout device" to help with my ongoing chronic pain from multiple neck surgeries. It's a crazy thought, and I'm mostly joking with myself. But my desire for a drum set is very real. I've filed this desire away in the "someday" category. When the time is right, and I have the means, and the space for a drum kit, I will make it happen! :-) Eric
