Elaine is a rural village on the Midland Highway 30km south-east of Ballarat, 8km from Meredith, which is also on the highway and 115km (71.5mi) west of state capital Melbourne Australia.
Elaine has two churches, a hotel, a public hall and a recreation reserve. In 2013, after community fund-raising and government assistance, new tennis courts were opened.
Also in Elaine today is the monastery of St. Sava, the oldest monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Australia and in the southern hemisphere and we were lucky to get permission to get some images of this wonderful monastery and their cemetery is also beautiful.

Residents of Elaine and district are generally buried at the Morrisons cemetery just out of town, not at the Serbian cemetery.

My grandfather was the headmaster at the Elaine State School from about 1920 to 1930. Does anyone know where the state school was?
