    I've been growing auto's for about 5 years. As a rule of thumb for every month of the plants life a gallon should be referenced. For example, for 3 month auto's use a 3 gallon pot.

      And what do you think about the size of the plant? For example Sativa dominant autoflowers that grow tall, maybe more than 40 inches / 100 cm
      Do you think they would grow well in 2 gallon pots or 3 is the minimum?

    High guys, I'm new to the indoor grow thing. I decided to do the indoor thing after the plant I grew this summer turned out to be a he and I'm really excited with my new hobby. Got the tent a couple days ago, had everything ready, and have three auto sprouts. I'm learning a great deal about this and saw one you may want to look into about revegging autos. It's basically extending the veg cycle by limiting their root space using small containers and stepping them up in size. It makes sense to me and I intend to try it when I clone these plants, which is possible unlike what some will say. They also say autos hate stress and transplanting, but there is so much misinfo out there. I like honest videos like yours. Another thing I learned is that cloning is as simple as cutting a branch, trimming all but the top set of fans and new growth, clipping a 45 degree at the bottom, and put them in a glass of water instead of all the other methods with products to use and humidity chambers.

    I like to use a 3 gallon for autos because I haven't noticed a big difference in over all yield vs a 5 gallon. It's a smaller foot print than the 5 gallons and I only have a 3x3 tent so I literally SOG 9 autos in the 3x3 by keeping in 3 gallons and LSTing them. Also, less cost on the soil but you do have to feed more you will run into more defeciencies quicker when using dry amendments you should top dress earlier and more frequently Great video!!

    • @Highigan
      @Highigan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And thats exactly the issue we have been noticing, in a 3 gallon they used more and faster, we were still top dressing on a 5gal pot size, almost to late so its like playing catch up, esp with dry amendments! Great tips and comment fam! 💚🙏

    • @RClark-ld2jt
      @RClark-ld2jt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Highigan everyone's set up and environment/genetics/etc will play roles but these are just commonalities I have found in my never ending journey. Also playing catch up with dry amendments in particular will never work great. That's why you have to find the "sweet" spot timeline wise to start your first top dressing with the soil your running so you don't get in this spot. Amending soil to start will help but not if it's a hot soil to begin with. I am considering trying 4 gallons. It's like the "on the fence" choice. Things to consider with autos in 5 gallon pots also is overwatering when plants are at young stages if you aren't transplanting and it is it's forever home. It can be tough to gage how much water to give say a 2 week old plant in a 5 gallon container. Anyway just wanted to let you guys know I appreciate what your doing and I'm from kalamazoo, live here now. Go Blue! Keep the videos coming much love happy Friday!

    Have used 5 gal pots for quite awhile, but now as I have gotten older, I have switched to 3 gal.
    As I use fabric pots, they do seem to always need watering.
    The 5 gal pots will make quite a bit of plant as well, more than I need.
    So I have quite a bit at harvest, fun to give away!
    But the 3 gal are much better for my old back.
    Now just for fun, I am going to try a 10 gal grow. Single Auto in 5x5. Should be interesting.
    Trying to decide what strain to start, Counted my "stash" and see that I have 96 seeds.......
    I seem to have a shopping problem, but they look so good online!
    Ps. Fun way to give away is something I call "By the stick", Give a nice trimmed stalk with all branches and buds intact.
    Always gets a smile.

      @@Highigan I love the Blu-Mats, but learned an important lesson about them. One of my carrots was too close to the side of the Rain Science bag and when I rotated the bag to change up the light penetration, the carrot side was too close to the fan in my tent. The fan blew across the carrot tip through the mesh bag and dried it out causing the water to run over night and flood my tent. My own fault for putting it in too close to the side, but an easy mistake to make for someone new to growing. I definitely learned why tents have a water-proof liner in them!!

    Tried 3 gallon fabric pots, they work but I didn't like them. I switched to home depot 5 gallon buckets with holes for drainage and its much easier to water and plants are twice the size. The fabric pots have water run out the sides before soaking the soil so it's annoying to get them watered properly.

    best pot size for autos well depends on the genetics, some autos now adays can get quite big, I have autos that get 5 feet high and quite bushy, i have had autos that only get a foot and a half high. so check the stats from the seedbank when ordering seeds. bigger roots bigger fruits. check stats on them autos if they can get big go bigger pots 5 gallons up to 20 gallons. if they only can get a foot or 2 well 2 or 3 gallons is good choose acordingly. Ive done autos personally in 30 gallons but I know the genetics as they are my own and they get 3 to 5 feet depending on the pheno and they all get quite bushy. new here great stuff subbed.

    IF YOU WANT TO RE-USE your potting soil I recommend taking it outside and using a flame thrower to cook off the old roots and stuff. I use one I got a the big box store. I use by laying the potting soil on an old piece of metal roofing and hit it with the flame thrower till its dry and can be sifted. It turns the old fine roots into carbon (which is good) and kills anything else from being in that indoor environment like mold or anything. I have been doing this for years, it sterilizes the soil. I also use it to burn off weeds pryer to planting my vegetable garden outdoors after tilling.
