My sister retired a couple of years ago and with less income worried they wouldn't be able to buy a nice Christmas for their grandchildren. She put together a box for each grandchild of treasures she found at Goodwill over a long period of time and her grandchildren were thrilled with their gifts - as much as in other years!
Love that! Thanks so much Lori!
My local shop collect all the new packaged toy donations for two months and then do a Christmas special shopping day with only new packaged toys. There are queues all down the road for this sale it is so popular.
I did that when my kids were young. They didn't care where it came from.
You didn't buy the Pyrex bowls! "We put them back to bless someone else." Wow, that's kindness right there! You're an angel Emmy and I bet someone later that day, came home with those bowls super excited and happy. It can be very easy to grab the vintage bargains without any real need. You showed us in your gentle way, the practice of selflessness. And I'm in Ontario!
What an encouraging and uplifting comment!! Thank you so very much!
Several years ago from Goodwill, I purchased a brand new - tags still attached - alpaca sweater from Peru. The tag said $125!! And I believe it, because this is the very best sweater I have ever owned. Are you ready? The sweater cost $4. Best deal I have ever gotten from Goodwill. I don't shop retail stores for clothing except for bras and panties. I even buy nightwear there. So glad you pointed out this wonderful frugal place to shop to all your subs. Diane in NC
Diane we won't buy undergarments there either! Thanks so much for watching!
That is true, I bought one retail … I was freezing in the mountains so it made sense to me at the time. I go everywhere with my sweater! Great find!
My husband and I bought a little vacation place in WV for dirt cheap. We have zero budget for furniture and have been sleeping on a mattress in the bedroom. Today we found a beautiful, antique metal bed frame that we scooped up for $90. It was worth waiting to find the perfect piece at a great price. The alternative would have been a cheap, junky frame from Amazon.
YAY!! How wonderful is that! Congrats!
I tell my friends that are not thrift store people that restaurants wash their dishes and reuse their silverware glassware plates ie.
I have a blessed beautiful life and it's blessed with quality finds mostly resale items.
Great analogy!! I never ever thought of it that way! Thanks so much for watching!
As always I enjoyed your video. Must add that your milk & corn starch hack is a life saver for us. Due to health restrictions I've passed over many recipes that needed heavy cream & then you showed me the solution. Can't thank you enough. Our clam chowder soup will now be thick & creamy. AlFredo here I come.
YES! Works perfectly and absolutely no change in taste!
I absolutely believe in buying used except for My underthings...Ritzi and I send Love and Cheer from Texas!!!
LOL! I draw the line there too! 😆🤣
Yes, no undergarments for us either!! Love back!
my husband and i aren't in another country, but we are across country from you. we live in eastern washington state. we love you guys.
Hi, Neighbor😁? I’m from the Tri-Cities area of eastern Washington.
@@jeannel1065 hello to you neighbor, we are by moses lake area.
Thanks so much for watching Michelle!
In the summer,my area has Edgewater days.which is a huge yard sale. I asked about it, and hubby is going to save a little bit of money each pay period for me to go.it is generally the first week of June
Sounds so fun!
I've thrifted all my life and have had some amazing deals over the years. One Christmas, I thrifted every gift (all new with tag items) and spent hundreds less!! Love from West Virginia 💝💝
Love that!! Thanks so much for watching Julie!
My name is Racquel, and I’m from 🇯🇲. My husband and I now Live in Florida with Our children. I love watching your videos ❤️
Thanks so much for watching Racquel!
Sending wishes from Lincoln, England
YAY! Thanks so much for watching Irene!
Love you videos, you are so lucky to have massive thrift stores in the USA, we live in a small town in England and have to travel long distances to find thrift stores which are bigger than just shops, however I have over the years had wonderful buy’s. We don’t have tag sales or garage sales or estate sales like you, also being able to put things on the sidewalk every month and people can pick any item up if it is going be of use to them. God Bless 🙏✝️🇬🇧
I love thrifting and another reason to thrift that often goes unmentioned is that thrift stores are almost always non-profits supporting great charity work. Goodwill, for example does some great job training and school support for a lot of poeple who have had trouble finding employment. I love redirecting money I would have spent at a retail store to support such great grpups.
Thanks for your wonderful channel. I really enjoy it. You always make me smile with your sweet greeting.
YAY!! Thanks so much for watching Lori!
I thrift almost everything! Food processor $22, hand mixer $3, my colander was only $.99 at my thrift shop, in sink dish rack, Yankee candles new and used are a fraction of the cost of new ones, school folders, puzzles, bread pans, boots, jackets, jeans, leggings. I thrift first, then go to a store for new if I can’t find what I need.
Exactly! So smart! Thanks so much for watching!
Our goodwill is my FAVORITE store! I find the most gorgeous clothes! I thoroughly wash and dry them and they are like new! 😀
Thanks so much for watching!
I used to visit our local Goodwill to get toys and other goodies for my elementary classroom prize bins. Lots of great finds, and teachers would get an extra 20% off on Wednesdays, which really helped to stretch my teacher budget!
Thanks so much for watching Megan!
I bought a new ( still had the label) cashmere sweater for my son’s Christmas present from the charity shop here in the U.K.. the original ticket said £80 the charity ticket was £8 🥳👌
That is awesome!
Not all Goodwill stores operate the same. In Central Florida .. just yesterday... those $.99 Phaltzgraph mugs are $4.99 each. T-shirts can be $6.99 if they have a "brand name" label.
Same in Colorado
It's the same where I live. The choices arent great and nice items are priced like retail.
Sadly I have the same problem. Most of the stuff in Sal Val here in PA is junk or way too expensive. I have wasted a lot of time and gasoline.
My family always said one mans junk is another mans treasure! Thank-You! God-Bless!
God Bless you too! Thanks!
I would absolutely have bought the Pyrex with the covers on them! I love to cook extra and put single size servings in them which saves my husband’s calls to take out for dinner when I’m working. I just spent $18 on 4 of those containers. They are awesome! They are dishwasher safe and no plastic touches the food.
Yes, exactly what I thought!!
I am from Massachusetts. I shop Goodwill all the time. I usually buy up all the musical instruments to give to students who don't have money to buy an instrument. So, this way I can give the gift of music. I always look in the glass wear and things in that area. I use "Nalgene Bottles" to bring my I ice water to school every day. I get them for 3 dollars. in the stores they are 25. I live very frugal, and love going on a hunt to find something special. You never know what you will find. Thrifting Fun!
YAY!! Love that you buy the instruments! Thanks so much for watching!
I'm a middle school history and Spanish teacher living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Dorchester County. Harriet Tubman's birth place! I just want to tell you I have a huge collection of what I'm calling "Emmy Recipies." Every one has been a keeper! Thank you!
YAY!! Love to hear that! Thank you so much Laura!
When my grandfather owned a new and used furniture and more store I worked there for several years, thrifting is in my blood and I love it!
Love that Sarah!
Ive been thrifting for years. Its my favorite way to shop. My mother loves the gifts I collaborate from the thrift stores. Its better and more affordable than any store bought brand new items.
I agree! Great items!
Watching you twice a week from Oregon!
Thanks so much Holly!
Wash everything.you never know.even from a full price shop, wash it.you don't know who tried it on before you.or how clean they are
So true!
I recently found your channel and have been binge watching it since!!! You two are adorable! Your hints and recipes are wonderful... and Emmy, your smile is contagious!!! Looking forward to all of your future videos! Blessings to you both!
Thanks so much Christine! 😊. Welcome!
Love thrifting, both for economical and environmental reasons. I don't get people who wouldn't even consider second hand because somebody else used it before them- every time you eat out - you use second hand glass, plate, cutlery etc LOL And when you staying in the hotel - you are sleeping in a bed that 100s of people slept in, same with towels and bedding etc. My husband was such a person until explained to him and its changed his view completely :) Love your channel, so gentle and encouraging, just what we need in these uncertain times. Lots of Love from Belfast - Northern Ireland
Great points you made! So true! Thanks for watching!
Former NYer here living in Washington State now. I love watching your channel. It makes me feel like I am back home.
That is awesome! Thanks so much for watching Deb!
I am a seasoned thrifter of 30+ yrs. All my furniture and 95% of my clothing and kitchen ware is thrifted. Absolutely no shame 😊 I put all the saving in the bank...Lol.
2 yrs ago I thrifted a $1.00 watch out of a junk jewelry basket....turned out it is a Fendi watch worth $900.
My most recent purchases this last year...I needed a "newer" couch....ended up thrifting my living room couch for $50 in mint condition that retails for $3000......and wanted a bread maker...thrifted a brand new Zojirushi Bread machine for $15 that's on Amazon for $326.00. No one should pay full price....if they don't want to.👍
I am located in Chapel Hill, NC.
Enjoy your content on here!!
YAY!! Such wonderful finds!! It's like a treasure hunt of sorts! Thanks so much for watching!
I loved this video! ❤️ I've been going to thrift stores since I was little. My mom brought my sister and I to them, and we all still go. Also, I love the soup recipe. Thank you for all the information you and Paul give to us. I'm in California.😊
Thanks for sharing and watching Julie!!
Good Heavens!! That Goodwill is HUGE!! Those PYREX!! All those goodies! I wanted to hop into the screen! And Paul, I see a new career as a hand model.
LOL!!! Yes, he is! Thanks so much for watching!
A thrift store I like to go to got a donation from an upscale boutique that recently closed. I got two tops, marked at $34.99 each, for just $3 each. I also got a gold ring for $10 at the same store.
Hello from Maine! I love shopping at my local Good Will and Salvation Army stores! It's good for the planet as well as the pocket book! I adore kale and am quite certain I can "veganize" that recipe! I bet it would be fabulous in the Instant pot!
Thanks so much for watching!
We're from Wisconsin. City of Monroe-swiss cheese capital of the US.
Thanks so much for watching David!
Hi Emmy and Paul. I am watching you from the island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii. I must say, your Goodwill store is so organized! Wow, it is so easy to find things that one might need. Those dish sets of four were a real deal to me. I thought for sure Emmy would have grabbed that vintage Pyrex; good job Emmy. I haven't been to Goodwill in about 30 years but I remember everything being everywhere and having to hunt for things. I am really proud that our adult children are frugal and almost never pay full price for anything. Our son and his wife are expecting their first child and have received almost everything the baby will need, gently used, from their friends and church members. Why go out and buy things when others are willing to give them away?
I couldn't agree more! They are truly blessed! How beautiful Hawaii must be!! Thanks so much for watching!
We are late but we are here watching
Thank you!!! You all are never late!
Just made a half batch of the soup. Very good. I used Kale I had in the freezer and since it wasn't enough I used the extra leaves that came off of Brussel sprouts for tonight dinner. Even the kids had some!
YAY!!! So glad you enjoyed it!!
I enjoy thrifting too, it is an extra treat to find stuff with new tags on them still. I even pick up stuff for a relative. When I'm on vacation or out of town I try to check out thrift stores in other areas. Looking at the items is sometimes like walking through recent history. I'm in Wisconsin.🐄
Yes, we thrift on vacation as well! Thanks so much for watching!
The way I look at it when people buy new clothes is like buying used because people are constantly trying on the new clothes. So it's like they are used.
LOL! Very true!
That Goodwill store was so much cleaner and more organized than the last one I was in. We have a newer, bigger Goodwill store in town now that I will check out. It would be a pleasure to shop there. The soup looks delicious and made me hungry. Thank you for making simple, frugal living so much fun. Bye from Southwestern Iowa.
Thanks so much Linda!

I purchased a lovely summer dress, jeans, and new leggings/socks at thrift stores. Even if they are new the price is reduced. I attend thrift stores that are helping handicapped and local charities. My sister, daughter, and I go together. We are passing on that reuse, recycle, refurbish tradition. When we find other needed items we purchase and pass them on to family and friends.
Love that! Thanks for watching Jill!
