    Hi I will be moving to Fribourgh in September, 2023. I am a research student with limited fellowship hence need your tips to manage the accommodation in tight budget.

      May I ask what is your budget for accommodation? If it's under 100CHF, it's probably best to find a room in a shared flat/house. Sometimes those are advertised on Facebook in local groups.

      Sorry, I just realised there was a mistake in my response. Of course I meant 1000CHF and not 100CHF. 🙂
      Hope that you manage to find something!
      Sometimes there are options of student-type accommodation, which often comes already furnished.

    As in the UK, all theses caclutation would and will never work, for simple reason. Rent, and management cost are going up with or without any reason. Say I live in property wich is managed by property development company, and I pay so called management and maintenance costs and twice a year is gows up, at the moment it already £180. 22 tenats asked in writing to itemise cost of "management" since building is 13 y/o. No replay. Never redecorated, never service on time elevator, and security door etc. This is UK.

    Thank you, a very useful video! I was wondering if you think that the agency may be annoyed by the request of reviewing the rent and for example starting to make your life difficult and for example refuse to do repair works and similar...

      I understand your concern. It's hard to say what their reaction would be, however, by law they are required to review your rent if you request it. I think in general agencies tend to follow the rules. They might just stretch this process out like they did for us. 🙂

    Hi again, What would happen if I want to apply for a work visa and I'm in an airbnb, and I don't have an apartment?

    • @OurSwissAdventure
      @OurSwissAdventure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to apply for a visa before you move to Switzerland. Once you move here, you apply for a residence permit. If you do it whilst living in an Airbnb, you just give them the Airbnb address. You can do this by showing your Airbnb booking and explaining your situation. You just need to make sure that your name is put on the postbox and you have access to it. Because any documents they send will be sent to you by post.

    Hi, I will move to Fribourg for a PhD this September. I have been watching your videos which are very informative and helpful. Could you please give me an entirely rough idea or estimate of how much it will cost monthly for a single person there, including all types of costs. For eg. The studio apartment that I will rent costs ~800 CHF/month. It will be very helpful if you could give an idea about the estimated monthly amount.
    Thanks.

      Hi! Thank you for watching and I'm glad that the videos have been helpful to you.🙂👍
      I've been asked this question so many times, but I'm always cautious about giving an answer, since everything depends on your location and lifestyle. But let's say we think about the must-have expenses. You can look up how much health insurance is in Fribourg. Also check if maybe you qualify for a student health insurance (I don't know if PhDs do), because it's much cheaper. Then I'd say you need at least 300-400CHF a month for groceries. Additional bills not included in rent could be 100CHF easily. Then transport costs very much depend on your daily commute (if that's needed) and any additional trips you might want to make. I think I once calculated that I spent 70CHF a month on transport (that's without any abonnement or daily commute).
      And of course there are all the extras like going out, alcohol and any fun activities, plus any medical expenses that will be still part of your franchise.
      From what I know, PhD salary is alright here and should be enough to support you for a modest life in Switzerland. Plus your potential rent seems quite low, which will help as well.🙂

    The fact that you can ask for an abatement of rent if the reference interest rate is low is basically true, however, the release date of your video was probably a bit badly timed, because of all times, the day you released this video, Swiss National Bank has raised key interest rates for the first time in fifteen years! Therefore, it's very unlikely that the reference interest rate will decrease further from this point on. If anything, the reference interest rate is expected to increase too naturally, not now, because these changes take time, but maybe in about 3 years time. With that said, rental prices will probably slightly increase too in several years just based on the increase of interest rates. Not to mention the increase of energy costs right now...

      Oh no, I wasn't aware of this! That's unfortunate timing indeed, but we'll see what happens.🙂
