- I needed an easy way to make some presentation boxes for the pens I've made, but this approach can be use for many items, it will work especially well for watches, earrings, necklaces, pens, pencils etc. fro crafted gift items.

WORKSHOP SAFETY:
================================
As always you are responsible for your own safety in your workshop, so do your own research, and come to your own conclusions about what is or isn't safe in your specific situation. If you see anything in my videos which you think is unsafe or ill-advised please let me know in the comments. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
The simplicity of the box is what makes it so elegant! Well done!
Thanks, simplicity was the aim in the design, these are - at the end of the day - fancy packaging so my aim was make it quickly with as few changes of tools/bits as possible. I went on and made half a dozen and these didn't really take any longer than making one. Thanks for watching and commenting - its great to know people appreciate the videos :-)
Great work, thank you. Similar mindset on working with wood.
Thanks for watching!
Great job and project thx for sharing looks elegant Keep building Cheers
Thanks Larry, glad you like the box, Thanks for your continued support of the channel and all your comments, it makes making the videos worthwhile knowing people enjoy them. :-)
Great projects and content
Real sturdy brass hinges are expensive, but if you want to (re)use them instead for larger boxes, ‘Brusso‘ is now selling those in Europe. Quality brass hinges are hard to find elsewhere.
Very nice and very simple idea. Thanks for the time and trouble. I'll be following your channel for more.
Thanks Ray, great to have you along :-)
Lovely crafted, - allthough not many hardware stores may stock the hinges and lock !
I Just got them off Amazon
Beautiful box Simon, but whilst I would be in awe receiving my gift boxes like that I sometimes feel it's a waste of the makers talent as the box will inevitably be lost to a back of a drawer somewhere
Yes, I agree with you there, they way I think of it is, if you present a pen in a box, before the gift receiver sees the pen, they are subliminally being told, that the maker has put effort into making what's inside, elevating the experience when they see the pen. Apple used to do this in the early days with their 'box opening experience' on the iPod (I rarely agree with Apple!). Thanks for continuing to support me.
Cool setup! Brilliant use of the dogholes for holding the sandpaper. By the way, are those large panel standoffs you're using as bench dogs? I'm considering using them instead of the expensive real benchdogs.
Hi Bob, if you mean the dogs on the bottom of the sanding board, these are 3D printed - there is a link to the video I made about them here th-cam.com/video/FRQsz9KkQoU/w-d-xo.html thanks for watching and commenting.
@@DIYTinkerer I mean the metal ones. They look like the screw standoffs used to mount signs and displays on a wall. Some have a two piece rubber grommet so the glass doesn't crack.
@bobweiram6321 I got them off of Amazon, they were pretty cheap and work well as clamps.
@@DIYTinkerer So they are in fact standoffs, correct?
@@bobweiram6321 with the exception of the benchdog clamps and the 3D printed doghole covers all my benchdogs (long and short) are from benchdogs.co.uk hope that helps.
