    I've been using it on a 6'10" med light Zodias for underspins and small swimbaits. It performs flawlessly amd the thing can cast a 3/16oz bait farther than the rod can hook up a good hook set haha. Sometimes I tighten the drag slightly so I can really swing on them from afar and then back off a 1/4 turn and let them run around. In all seriousness I've landed 100s of bass, smallmouth, crappie and a few big cats amd it's one of my favorite combos for having fun. It really makes me want to get an alderbaran on a 7' med light + Expride.

    How smooth is the retrieve on these SLX compared to a Curado? All my reels are Curado K's or Scorpion MGL's, because they're just like butter on the retrieve. Thinking of picking up a DC reel, and if the SLX has that same butter feel, then I might pick that up and put more money toward the rod.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They feel great but you also have to realize they have less bearings and a different drive gear than Curado K and Scorpion as they both have the Micromodule II gear and SLX doesn't. Bearings, gear and materials are what makes up the price difference so you get what you pay for. Personally I wouldn't compare them but I can tell you I was super happy with all of the SLX reels I have fished. Very impressive for the money

    • @happybeing777

    Just took mine for spin today. Out of the box, spooled up 70 yards of 832 6lb braid- casts OK, still working out the braking. Thing I noticed right away though- very smooth reeling with no load but even a crank bait puts enough resistance to cause a rough feel in the retrieve. I can hear and feel some sort of scraping? Any advice? My other two SLX 150's are silky.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure the brake paddles are opened or closed properly and nothing is loose on the body, shouldn't be rough under load.

    I have at least one of each of the SLX reels and the MGL is not my favorite. The small light spool is loud and doesn't handle my larger baits nearly as well as the XT. I'm not saying it's garbage, but the XT is a better overall reel in my opinion.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors

      The MGL was designed for lighter baits with the MGL spool which is designed to have less mass and therefore have lower start up inertia. That’s probably why you don’t like it for larger baits. It also has lower line capacity than the others. The XT is my fav in the bunch as well!
