- Officials in the Bahamas responded to a U.S. State Department travel advisory warning Americans about a rise in gang-related homicides on the island. The advisory followed a similar warning about Jamaica. Manuel Bojorquez reports.

Give me a break! There should be a warning on tourist coming to the US. This wasn't even worth reporting.
we try to warn them, but they keep storming the borders.
I think this report was meant to help the Bahamas and let Americans know that the State Department warning was based on crimes not committed in tourist areas.

My personal experience with Bahamians has been this - they are people, a little more pleasant than Americans, but people. All people everywhere fail. The Bahamas is no different than Chicago. Don’t go looking for drugs, prostitutes, or gambling and you are as safe as anywhere.
Comparing Bahamas with Chicago is not exactly a compliment lol

I was in the Bahamas as a kid and my parents hated it. I went back 30 years later and understand why. For an island that depends on tourism, the locals obviously despise tourists and dont hide it.
I'm betting it's you. Everyone was extremely wonderful to me. But I'm a really nice person so I normally get nice back. It's easy to surmise that you are the problem

This warning is inflammatory. U. Ant say the Bahamas is not safe when they are only looking at 2 islands out of 700. A lot of the out islands are not only safe but a lot of the population is second home owners from the U.S. these are called the family islands. They are almost all larger families of the original settlers. I don’t think Miami is very safe but that doesn’t mean I will not go to Florida

We have gone to Nassau for over 30 years now. Never had a problem BUT we also Never Go out at night in Nassau. Stay at the resorts at night and don't go far from the port. Just like Miami 😮😮😮

Probably safer than Miami or LA. I work in SF Bay Area, and it can get scary! Especially near the tenderloin after dark. At least the tourist areas in the Bahamas aren't taken over by tweakers!!! Fisherman's wharf in SF is now a crime hotspot. Businesses are closing because the losses are simply too great to bear, even with all the tourist traffic. So yah, I think the Bahamas are still on my travel list. I had a great time on my previous visit, and I look forward to my next!

Was in Bahamas and Jamaica a few days ago. Stay with crowds or tourists. Dont get distracted.

I was there last month on vacation and had a wonderful time, everyone was nice they definitely live by the “island time” but that isn’t a problem
Went there to an all inclusive resort in the 80’s. The check in people warned us that if we left the resort we would be robbed. Welcome to paradise
These places are safer than your hometown. Just don’t go where you shouldn’t be.

State Dept is responsible for issuing travel advisories for Americans before they visit OTHER COUNTRIES, as part of their duties. You've been warned, and now make your decision based on that. Of course, U.S. is as dangerous or maybe even more so than other countries, and it's the responsibilityof YOUR government to warn you about that. Make your decision to visit or not based on that advisory. That's all, so don't get your panties in a bunch, people!

The one time I went to the Bahamas I couldn’t even lay out on the beach because I got harassed by the local vendors. My other half and I had to stay at the pool the entire time.

Hell, I went to Paradise Island in Nassau back 45 years ago as a 23 year old, with my Bride. We decided to walk over the causeway bridge off Paridise Island and into Nassau.
Once across the bridge I was bombarded with local thugs trying to sell me Marijuana, Cocaine, fake jewelry, hookers, and even insurance. All I had to do was follow them down an alley to their offices. Lol
Recently honorably discharged from the USMC , these clowns didnt know I was a combat veteran of frequent visits to Tijuana Mexico and there as an 18 year old PFC had we had seen it all.

That’s ashamed, I loved the Bahamas ..one of my best vacations but like anywhere nothing is full proof safe,especially when traveling outside of your unknowns.

Those warnings are crucial since there are always some stupid tourists especially younger ones and some TH-camrs would go into the hoods out of their curiosity then get robbed or get in some trouble.

My girlfriend and I just came back from the Bahamas literally less then week ago. We stayed at the beautiful Atlantis hotel…
If you’re going then don’t worry. You’re fine! I spoke with locals, and they explained the violence is gang related between rival gangs. Stay on the resort and if you’re off the resort don’t wear shiny or bougie stuff…
Also downtown LA, or other US cities are more dangerous than the beautiful Bahamas. If you’re going to the Bahamas soon, have fun and relax :)
Been a few cruises. They're not worth it. Check out the Florida keys. Locals are awesome, and it's likely cheaper.

I don’t travel outside of the country at all ever. I’ve seen Canada and Mexico from the confines of my own country, that was good enough.
Mexico and Canada are safer than the US. We live in one of the most dangerous countries in the world it’s just the US doesn’t allow our travel advisory to be raised because they want to put out a false perception. We have some of the most unhealthy food on the planet too. Our food is killing us all.
