As a dane, I see absolutely no reason why the US should not be able to mine in Greenland. I'm sure that the Inatsisartut (the parlament of Greenland) is open for cooperation if guarantees can be made that it will not turn into an environmental catastrophe (sort of some bad experiences with American army bases). Denmark doesn't own Greenland. We have a deep cooperation of government and some unfortunate past with white missionaries trying to change their culture (as Europeans did all over the world back then), but Greenland is free, don't assume Denmark has some kind of rule over it. Go to their parlament and show these people the respect they deserve!

Inuit/Greenlanders have more rights in Denmark than Danes born in Denmark - e.g. increased and easier access to social welfare and they are essentially picked first on some educations. Some otherwise paid/private education places (e.g. Viborg Animation School) can be free of charge. They can legally move and work inside EU without visa, while only the Nordic countries are able to do the same in Greenland.
First, it would be seen as a violation of international law if Denmark, without involving the Greenlanders, decided to hand over the island to the United States. In addition, Denmark is subject to special international laws on the protection of the indigenous people of Greenland, which make a transfer without Greenlandic acceptance contrary to international law. The Greenlandic Self-Government Act from 2009 also makes such a sale more difficult, as it states that the Greenlanders themselves have the right to decide over their country. Let me ask you this one simple question, if Greenland is under attack from Russia, does Denmark have enough man power, money, production capacity, military force to protect Greenland? How about Denmark and Germany combined? or how about Denmark Germany and France combined? or entire Europe combined? The war in Ukraine is very clear, without America, Europe can't even support Ukraine. Talk is cheap until you have to walk the walk. Americans are working when Europeans are drinking coffee and enjoying the sun in southern Spain, and enjoying 30 days or more paid time off while American's get like 15 days or less. The reality is, Europe has been taking advantage of America for years. We sanctioned Russia to make it weaker while Germany built a pipeline ready to make Russia richer. Why should we protect Germany from Russia then? After all Russia can easily cross Poland into Germany and it's not like they're going to cross Bering sea / pacific and invade America. Europeans have to be a LOT more serious about your OWN safety.

The way Trump has been talking about Greenland, Canada and Panama is expansionist. At least with Greenland he talks about buying, but the language he's been using with Panama is extremely similar to Putins remarks on Ukraine. As a dane, I see absolutely no reason why the US should not be able to mine in Greenland. I'm sure that the Inatsisartut (the parlament of Greenland) is open for cooperation if guarantees can be made that it will not turn into an environmental catastrophe (sort of some bad experiences with American army bases).
Denmark doesn't own Greenland. We have a deep cooperation of government and some unfortunate past with white missionaries trying to change their culture (as Europeans did all over the world back then), but Greenland is free, don't assume Denmark has some kind of rule over it. Go to their parlament and show these people the respect they deserve!

Inuit/Greenlanders have more rights in Denmark than Danes born in Denmark - e.g. increased and easier access to social welfare and they are essentially picked first on some educations. Some otherwise paid/private education places (e.g. Viborg Animation School) can be free of charge. They can legally move and work inside EU without visa, while only the Nordic countries are able to do the same in Greenland.

The Greenlandic Self-Government Act from 2009 also makes such a sale more difficult, as it states that the Greenlanders themselves have the right to decide over their country. If Denmark decides to say yes to hand over sovereignty over Greenland to the United States without Greenlandic acceptance, a number of states and potentially the UN would oppose it, and Denmark would allegedly be brought before the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague.
