Im samoan, grew up with Maori neighbours. I remember my maori neighbours invited me over for feed one time, I ended up finishing their dough boy and the whole family hadn't even had some yet 🤣I kid you not that shit is fire
I'm a New Zealand born Cook Islander...I LOVE your friend...He is so funny...Boil up for myself and my family as we grew, was easy and cheap to cook...Throw it all in a big pot, turn it on, then sit back and wait...For us, Chicken frames, Pork Bones, Bacon Bones and Brisket!...Cheap to buy and goes a long way to feed the whanau!!...Dough boy's or the Pakeha version of DUMPLINGS...Again, easy to bring together and cooked in the same pot as your meat and cabbage...Now a days for me and my whanau, the meat is a lot more expensive and one really has to check the bones have MEAT...But it's like a luxury meal for me and my son's...I'm glad you enjoyed it...Not a good meal to eat, while trying to lose weight ( which by the way, you are doing so well ) but for us, we LOVE BOIL UP!
Next time someone please get this man watercress boil up, salt & real butter for that fry bread 🤤 Cream & fruit salad with the steam pudding as well. Awesome content. Ngā mihi 🌿
Exactly what I was going to say!…everything you said 💯!…😂🤣I was struggling to watch them eat the boil up with no salt then eat the fry bread with no real butter🙄🤪🥴Crack up reactions!
Boil up can be pork bones, bacon bones, or brisket, or if you can't get those meat, then pork sausages. Add vegetables potatoes, kumara, pumpkin, or what you've got. Also, add watercress or puha and if you can't get those cabbage or silverbeet and Spinach.😋😋😋 Fried bread is best hot out of the frying pan smothered with butter, golden syrup or jam.😋😋😋😋 But can eat it with anything. For me cream Paua the best 🤤🤤🤤🤤👌👍🙌
As a Tongan from the U.S. with many kiwi cousins who are half Maori, I have NEVER seen Maori food. This was a great upload. I'd love to try it out some day. I might have to visit the fam in NZ before AU 😁.
Brooo you guys are all welcome to the mattress room (Māori cookout) 🥴 Love that you enjoyed the boil up brother. Game changer with Watercress but I enjoy a cabbage as an alternative
Need to put some butter on your bread bro and a bit of salt on the boil up 😅 I'm drooling much. And left over fried bread will be yummy with golden syrup
Black gold aka Paua mmmmm my fav. You need some salt with Dat boil up.. but YUM ow. Everyone has theirs different. Pork bones with watercress and cabbage mmmmm and motumotus. Scrumptious.
Wow I’ve never seen boil up done with chicken before. If you get to try again find a boil up that has bacon bones and puha in it. It’s Super good!! Oh and rewana on the side dip it in that boil up juice waaay better than fried bread 💯
A real boil-up has puha. Puha fresh brisket kumara soft doughboys, pork bone has watercress, and the gap fillers are corned beef with cabbage. Beef bone with silverbeet and spinach.
Paua is a delegate food where you should only eat on special occasion because of the richness of whats in it…they are part of the sea snail family in the sea…
My whanau call the dough boys a motumotu. Try the boil up with watercress but cabbage is alright to and if u can try a takakau bread hot with real butter and jam and cuppa tea yah sorted. P.s if u get a chance try a pakapaka so good make sure u get that right person causd not just anyone can make it and the boil up is always better with Brisket, Pork bones, Ham bones or softbones.
Staple dish. Boil up actually originated from colonisation. Its more of an english type of stew dish rendered to suit what was available in nz. And the dough boys is the maori rendition of the english dumpling. Maori traditionally eat it with watercress or even more authentically, puuha. Otherwise you can use pretty much any greens nowadays. The addition of the carrot is a new one for me tho ngl lol. And the meat is usually pork, lamb or brisket. The most authentic traditional (kai) tho would be haangi with rewana (potato or sour dough) bread. Theres also maori bread which is a basic flat and fluffy bread and takakau which is just a flat and doughy bread.
Love ur videos man . But for a recommendation for next time you is traditional Māori hāngi you could buy them at the shops it’s really hard to make it at home but yea . Much love 🤍
ayyy the otahu food court, there is a thai noodles shop and that pad thai its so good and its called (thai noodles) i think from what i could remember its really good
You need to go to a maoris house to try these foods bro, the shops don't do it justice, still delicious but trust me especially the dough boyz those ones looked too chewy, the perfect ones are fluffy. Biggest crime of this year was y'all not using the fried bread to dip in the boil up
African bro is amazing. He gets stuck in to the food and gives honest options….. great channel boys!!

boil up is one of the cheapest way to feed a party, also you can do it while drunk because you can't burn it if there's water in it.
Yeah g i need a tomato sauce with my doughboys and greens

A real boil-up has puha. Puha fresh brisket kumara soft doughboys, pork bone has watercress, and the gap fillers are corned beef with cabbage. Beef bone with silverbeet and spinach.
