    You are a true gentleman, donating it to a bike museum. Would have been an easy $500 in parts alone in that showroom condition.
    Rare to get such a mint bike nowadays, had luck in the past, but that was 10 plus years ago. Awesome job

    Wow! I had no idea how dirty this bike was. When you you brought it into Marin Museum of Bicycling it looked brand new! Nice video. You're a talent. Thank you for your support.

    Outstanding find. I'd pay 20 for the XT RD alone lol !
    That turtle wax did wonders on the paint. The bike was unused all this time also, it's true, that helps.

    • @Desi365
      @Desi365 ปีที่แล้ว

      You shouldn't have kept the ugly plastic derailleur ring in the back, it's fugly and useless. My only criticism.

    • @Desi365
      @Desi365 ปีที่แล้ว

      I take it back. If you wanted to give it to the museum, it makes sense to keep the plastic ring.

    $20!!! They were about a grand when they came out.
    To me, that is what you call a proper mountain bike. Tough and built to last. The Turbo saddle is a great choice.
    Lovely job.

    I bought this exact same bike in august 1990. Upgraded several parts on it and still own it today. I still have the page from the Raleigh catalog that year with all the details. The one thing I can tell you is that it came with Ritchey Megabite tires not Ritchey force. And also the saddle was a Brooks gel lite originally. Great job on the restoration!

      Why is there so much hatred of that little clear safety disk? It is to keep the chain from the spokes. It doesn't weigh much.

    • @retro_rev

      The plastic ones crack and fail they don’t work I only put that one on to keep the originality of the bike

      @@retro_revTrue - I have two bikes of the same vintage. One was out in the sun and rain more than the other. I really see how the plastic degrades on the one vs the other.

    At 8:26. a shot of the front crankset shows the middle crank has 5 broken off teeth in a row.
    Should have been replaced.

    • @retro_rev
      @retro_rev  ปีที่แล้ว

      On older Shimano rings 2 of the teeth are lower to help with shifting and the other teeth aren’t broken off they’re worn and don’t affect the usability of the ring. If the tooth was broken it would be completely missing like it was never there.

    • @DB-gr7ch
      @DB-gr7ch ปีที่แล้ว

      @@retro_rev Umm, nope.. .they definitely look broken off.

      @@DB-gr7ch Bio- pace chain ring. My 1991 Schwinn Cross cut has a biopace chain ring. It's dark now, but curiosity got me to go look at my chain ring with a flashlight. It has teeth that look similar to the restored bike and I remember reading something about this hyperglide chain ring having some sort of special tooth design. Of course my middle chain ring could have the same wear as the restored bike. The restored bike sold for about twice the price I paid for mine at the Contra Costa Schwinn Cyclery in 1991.
