    This is, by far, the best interview with Elvis I’ve ever heard. Not that I’ve heard a million of them, but if you knew nothing about him you could learn a tremendous amount about the kind of person he was just from listening to this. Thank you for This!

    He never gives himself enough credit. So humble.

    Elvis was wise beyond his years its amazing how he handle this interview when they were swarmed around him. In todays world they wouldn't get that close to an entertainer. He was simply the best

    I can't believe just how articulate and intelligently he answered all the questions back in 1957! He didn’t have any big publicity machine behind him. Beats celebrities of today anytime!

    Elvis was great. Always so sincere , humble, and polite to reporters and everyone. Touring has got to be so hard. People think that Elvis had it made but he worked so hard to get where he was. His fans loved him because he treated them with kindness, respect and love.

    I had this back on an 8-track tape in the 1970s, soon after his passing. There has been some editing. It was actually longer. He went into detail about the type of sacred music he like the most and explained the difference between gospel and spirituals. That got snipped in this recording.

    • @spritzalicious9937
      @spritzalicious9937 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Interesting. I wondered why an unrelated interview question cut in so abruptly just after he'd answered 'spirituals'. I would have loved to hear him talk about that music in more detail. Do you remember anything of what he said?

    • @RobinMarkowitzcoolmedia
      @RobinMarkowitzcoolmedia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@spritzalicious9937 Well, he basically explained to the reporter the difference between "gospel" (written songs) and spirituals (very old songs with unknown writers). In other words, although he didn't say it in these words, spirituals are folk music; gospel is not. He totally understood it. Not sure the reporter did.

      @@RobinMarkowitzcoolmedia Thanks so much for replying. That's awesome to know. I'm new-ish to Elvis, and watched a doco recently about his relationship to gospel music. Some of the musicians interviewed (people he'd played with) also said he knew a lot about gospel. They gave the impression Elivs was a voracious listener - kind a music nerd, I guess (I'm meaning this as a compliment). : )

    He never puts anyone down and really have respect for everyone!
    He's honest, humble and polite... At this point he had just bought Graceland and he made sure his parents and his relatives were looked after!
    He wanted to bring them all out of poverty and take care of them.
    What a success story!
    Elvis really wanted to help others and did a lot for his community, he's such a great example for others today, there are not many people like him around...
    Elvis was against discrimination of any kind and cared a lot about about the civil rights movement.
    Its strange to think that in his lifetime society really became so much more equal at so many levels and now we are letting all that progress unravel.

    Elvis vacationed quite a few times in Hawaii. Never left the USA Except for these tour stops in Canada and his time in the Military. It’s too bad he was never able with his $Millions to explore the World. He was extremely well read. It is said that his grueling schedule was simply because he felt responsible to support so many close to him. An extremely stand up man that should have been a little bit more selfish and rightfully so.

    Listening to Elvis, talking about acting, it's such a shame he never got the chance to explore that career. In a way the fans are partly to blame, Elvis didn't get the opportunity to try it as a serious actor. The two movies that required serious acting and hardly any singing, Flaming Star and Wild in the country, didn't do well at the box office. The movie that came after these two, Bleu Hawaii, on the other hand, was a box office smash hit. After these three movies, it was clear in what direction Elvis movies would go.

    • @sandysexton6570
      @sandysexton6570 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought King Creole was Elvis’ best movie, and I consider that it would have been even better if there were less songs - and better still if it featured no songs, if they truly wanted to develop his acting career. I thought Flaming Star was his second best movie, and followed very closely was Kid Galahad. Kid … was released after Blue Hawaii. I’m making some calculated guesses that when they found that Girls, girls, girls in 1962 was so successful, combined with Blue Hawaii earlier, Colonel Parker decided to put Elvis into the can. Since both Blue Hawaii [we know that this was Elvis’ biggest hit movie] and Girls, girls, girls made more money than either Wild in the County, Follow that dream, or Kid Galahad, the decision was made to focus more on Elvis’ music than his acting. Those soundtracks from his movies starting with Girls, girls, girls showed an increase in poor songs as well. {Viva Las Vegas was probably his best movie during those slack years}. When Elvis was about to make his comeback, his movies were superior than the previous ones; but, by this time, the fans had enough of the mediocrity and supported him less. “Money, honey, if you want to get along with me …”. By the way, I thought Wild in the Country was so bad that Elvis couldn’t redeem it. Anyway, this is just my opinion, not from some famous movie critic.

It was something new that they wouldn't allow him to do again. Comedy just seemed more popular from him than drama. He excelled at both.

    There was an interview he had where he spoke of his favorite band. I forget if he did the interview in the 1950s or early 1960s. The interview was before the Beatles. The band played instumentals only, no singing. I wish I could come across that one again.

He said he had trouble talking to people because it caused him anxiety. He always thought he might say something stupid and so that was one of the reasons he had the Memphis Mafia, so they could always chime in.
