To me there is not a bigger icon than Elvis Presley. How is it that one man could be such a magnet to millions of people? I mean, the biggest celebrities of that time were in awe of him. There simply isn't an explanation. He's just......Elvis.

Unique. Prince from another planet indeed. When he walked past past me to go on to the stage at the Cow Palace, I felt this incredible energy field as he passed. Amazing charisma, unbelievable good looks and of course his voice. I couldn't believe the power of his voice, you cannot imagine it being better than his records, but somehow it was. 47 years later and I still remember him as clearly as if it was yesterday.❤

I think the way Elvis treated people professionally and personally is what made him phenominal. His charisma and his humility is something everyone loved about him. I finished my training in Memphis. I met some people who had met Elvis. He really was kind to everyone. And of course giving. He was one of the most charitable stars of his time, but he gave unannounced and without media hype. There will never be another.
I was 12 years old at my friends house when on the radio an announcer was talking of Elvis. “Shhh!” I said. “I Love Elvis. Let me hear what they are saying about him.” And the DJ announced that Elvis Presley had died. I felt a wave of something come over me and I was never the same again. The whole world changed forever that day. Thanks Elvis.
Elvis was one of the very few legendary entertainers, who did not let the adulation, change the actual good person, he had been all his life.

I was 10 years old.. I am 55 and I remember walking in the living room and my parents BOTH crying Yes My Dad never saw him cry and it scared me then they told us kids and we all cried... I remember it like yesterday.. I remember watching the funeral too with my family... the day was just so SADDDD today people don't understand we didn't have all this media etc ELVIS WAS OUR WORLD.... Dad just passed away age 73 He had a 63 Fender strat and sang and played to Elvis songs and country legends now I have my own TH-cam Channel tribute to the KING and dedicated to My Dad.... I got an LP record collection of Elvis` 50 greatest hits afterward. Wore them out. I had just turned 12 years old August 7.
I was 11 years old, playing with my friend on his front lawn, his sister pokes her head out of the window and tells us Elvis has died........my friend and I just looked at each other and burst into tears!

I was 12 when my mom came into my room with tears in her eyes and said "Elvis has died"... At first I didn`t, I couldn`t believe it, and then I lost it...
I have been mourning for years. It was as if my big brother had died. I was devastated and people made fun of me. I was the only Elvis fan in my town. Nobody understood my pain. I moved to another country when I was 17, and I am still the only Elvis fan in town. Thank God for the internet and TH-cam. At least here there are people who know what it means to be an Elvis fan.❤

The BEST concert I ever went to .... 1974 , Hotel International , Vegas. Elvis' voice and his unbelievable stage presence was off the charts FANTASTIC.... his voice deep , commanding and richer than anything one heard on an album. Man , that was a great concert..... and HE WAS IN GREAT SHAPE , PHYSICALLY. ....didn't hurt that my buddy and I caught BB King in the Lounge ( FREE ) after Elvis' show..... sat about 15 feet away from BB. He was also great that night.

Elvis was more than great! It was Bill Porter, the legendary recording engineer, that captured it all on tape. Bill started recording Elvis upon his returned from the army, in 1960, and continued until Elvis's death. Porter also mixed his live performances from 1970 to 1977. Presley and Porter often spoke about what was real. At the request of the Presley family, Bill recorded Elvis's funeral. Bill was a real southern gentleman and a friend of mine. Harold Cohen.

That guitar intro on Suspicious Minds man never gets old..Reggie nailed it to the wall and that string section and Elvis just killed it! Reggie, Scotty Moore, Grady Martin and Tony Rice are my top 4 guitar players.
I was 7 when Elvis passed and will never forget my mom and aunts reaction. My grandpa, their dad, had passed 4 months earlier and seeing their reactions and the similarities to what I'd seen at grandpa's funeral spoke volumes me. As I've gotten older I have a deeper respect for Elvis and wht he did for the music world. Great video!

Apart from his talent and looks, Elvis obviously had a huge impact on the musicians around him and that was because of the kind of man he was.There were very few people who were not in awe of Elvis when they first met him and I'm sure Elvis knew it, but through it all he remained a genuine, down to earth, caring person, who treated his musicians with respect and dignity. There was something very, very special about Elvis and everyone knew it, right from the beginning. It came through in his talent and it came through in how he treated people. Thx. for sharing Joe.

BS, You shouldn't believe everything you hear and read, it doesn't make it true! Elvis did not know how old Priscilla was when he met her and he flew back to USA soon after. Nothing happened between them until years later!

Very true . She may have been 14 when he met her but so what . The house was always full of people including his Dad ,Step Mom , Step Brothers ( who lived there ) .Her parents who took her there in the first place and many of his pals . They had no time alone together. He left soon after meeting her and returned to Memphis . Her adoptive father was stationed in Germany for two more years . He then was demobbed to Texas .
By the time they left Germany Priscilla was 16. She still lived with her parents though she insisted she was allowed to speak to Elvis via phone . After conversations via phone she was giving her parents a living hell . ( This is all stated on Elvis By The Presleys ) . Her parents had their work cut out with her . Eventually her Dad phoned Elvis and said that she was demanding she moved to Graceland .
His dad agreed she could go under strict rules that she lived under Vernon Presleys roof and that Elvis enrolled her in a private Catholic Girls School. Naturally he had to pay the school fees . She has openly admitted that after some time she was sneaking into Graceland though Elvis was not to thrilled about it . Eventually she moved in fully . They indulged in petting but did NOT have intercourse till their wedding night. She.also admitted in her book ( her own words ) that she used to beg him to go" all the way " but he refused to do that till their wedding night .
I really dont think he had a hankering for little girls because after all , priscilla had been throwing herself at him for long enough and he was refusing ! She said it was due to his upbringing and beliefs . Its all in her book

We made a pilgrimage to Sun Studio a few years back, and during the tour while standing in the recording studio, the realization of Elvis’s and Johnny Cash’s presence in the space caused a chill to come over me, and I started to cry. As I watch these superb videos, I get the sense that I will have a similar reaction when I visit the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum.

@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Hi Joe ! Thanks for the work you're doing. My brother was in the Royal Navy and had to sail to the Falklands to femove the Argentinians from the Islands. Some war ! At one point some of the crew on the Ark Royal got to do an overnight billet with local families. My brother took his guitar and did a few songs for the family. My brother was shocked to learn that this family did not know Elvis Presley was dead. He was a bit upset that he'd been the one to tell them. These Islands are so remote, and at the time there wasn't much to entertain them. Hopefully, they're in a better position these days.
I was in 1997 and played this piano.
Guitar legend Barney Kessel once told me that when he worked on films with Elvis that Elvis really was a genuine person. That's great to know. RIP Elvis AND Barney.

@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Hi Joe. Barney was working in London when the news about Elvis hit the world. We were watching Elvis at home in Kent on TV in one of his films. We had to leave before the film finished. We met Barney in the club he was playing in that night and sat down with him for a friendly chat before he was on. He talked about Elvis a lot. I'm sure Elvis would have LOVED to be working with an American Jazz legend anyway. It was so nice to hear it first hand how great a person Elvis was. Despite his world wide fame. ( I am doing ok myself in music and poetry, so it's like living in their world these days)

I heard that Elvis's estate had made more money since his passing than when he was alive and performing. That's something quite amazing. Firstly it shows the great dedication from his close fans and the dedication of the rest of them, world wide. Obviously the mansion being open to the public is a major draw. It all boils down to a fantastic and unique person.
Lisa Marie still lives in Graceland it's her home ,she will never leave .That is her words, because of all the memories of her & her dad .

Elvis was pretty reckless with his money. Back then tax rates were a lot higher, but the government basically made it pretty easy for people like Elvis to take expense deductions for all the people he was paying that worked for him....his plane/travelling expenses, his many on the payroll, his payments to arenas to perform there....all of this could have been deducted each year to make him keep a lot of his money.....but strangely, Elvis never took those deductions which was flat out stupid. I never understood that....He gave millions to the government that he did not need to.
That's because the money was going directly to where it should've been going.

Man, some of these stories, from all these famous Memphis musicians ... i just about started crying myself. I (10yo) was in the car with my mom driving someplace when the sad news came over the radio. I don't think we got to where we were headed.

When growing up, the mono sound of Elvis' songs was all we had so we liked any song of his. In his later years, the back up singers and band filled out the sound and his songs were over the top dynamic. I love the later songs more than the earlier ones.

Thank you Joe, I remember when Elvis passed I was playing Minor League Baseball in Tennessee, it was maybe 5:00 when it made it to the clubhouse, we were all in shock and couldn’t believe it.

I was on duty at the barracks when his death was announced and so I told my buddy Kerry as he was a humungus Elvis fan and he just cried like a child.
Good memories bro, sad but you were fortunate to have been there at that time.
I was watching a rerun of Get Smart, I was 10 years old, it was a sunny day around dinnertime. News Bulletin. I told my Mom, the phone started ringing.... The outpouring of grief was unfortunately matched a little over three years later by another shocking death. The sad thing was, immediately after he died, they just couldn't wait to trash him in the press for his lifestyle which only added to the shock. And no one really knew until then..... Only one Elvis. He had a great voice and he was the best frontman in the history of rock n roll. Plain and simple. Those early years were simply too good. The era that produced Suspicious Minds and Kentucky Rain was great to hear about, that's just great stuff, it really is. The singing is incredible, his voice was really strong there. Thanks for this one.

When I was 16 all my friends hated Elvis I couldn't help but think why the best musicians in the world at the time praised Elvis and loved him, made me do research and when I did I became an Elvis fan and have been for the last 40 years.. I love all music except rap I let my emotions move me that's how I decide what kind of music I like and no one did it better than Elvis.. he could sing the phone book and make it sound awesome his charisma his Southern draw and mannerism is unmatched not to mention how much of a stud he was every guy wanted to look like Elvis LOL, he had the look that women loved and men feared LOL there will never be anybody cooler than Elvis Presley.🤙

More great stuff from Joe. It says a lot about the impact of Elvis' LIFE that an 11 year old boy (ME), with countless interests and things to do, preoccuppied with fishing and football and baseball and girls (almost, anyway :) still recalls vividly the moment he heard of Elvis's death: I was in the kitchen when the phone rang. Like most families in those days we had ONE phone hanging on the wall. I answered and it was a friend of my little sister's. She was crying and I could hardly understand what she was saying. I gave the phone to my sister, who within 20 seconds had tears streaming down her cheeks. She lowered the phone and in a broken, crying voice whispered, "Elvis is dead."
I was just a kid - had started learning guitar a couple months prior - but I'd never known a time when there was NOT Elvis. We lived 20 minutes from Memphis, very near where Elvis's Circle G Ranch is located. In fact, a good friend of my dad's came up with a business scheme were he would purchase a tiny portion of the Ranch and sell bottles of dirt allegedly dug up and bottled there. I say "allegedly" because this was just one of many sca...I mean, "schemes"...this dude devised over the years! lol Anyway, losing Elvis meant more to me than I would EVER have thought.

Excellent video Joe & I have seen many of those clips before having watched most of your prior ones. A very close friend of mine worked as an engineering mechanic at an airport in LA where Elvis used to fly into. He got to know the king very well & had many casual conversations with him. He told me that Elvis was one of the most down to earth & nicest guys that he ever met. My friend never asked him for his autograph or took any pictures of or with him. He just became one of the many people that Elvis called his friends! 👍👍😉😉

Sam..... hey.... I’m up late too watching TCM channel... just want to tell you how much I appreciate you and others who send me such kind comments. Knowing what I’ve done the last almost 20 years now with founding the museum and now also that the interviews are bringing happiness to so many of my new like minded friends is a great feeling. Like I tell people who ask my opinion about how to go about entering the music business, first do it because you love it and that’s what I did founding the MHOF. These interviews were just something that needed to be done if the museum was to be legitimate in my mind. It was never about money and that’s good because museums struggle to stay afloat. I never dreamed these interviews would be seen by millions of people. They were intended to be seen by those who visited the museum only but who knew something was coming called TH-cam! Joe, one of your best! What is abundantly clear, is all these guys got to know the “real” Elvis, and everyone of them described him as regular guy! I think subconsciously his fans knew that also, in spite of his public persona! It still comes through all these years later! I believe that is why his music is so popular today! Elvis’s hits were hits, because he made those songs personal! Thanks again for sharing all these great musicians with us! I remember the day he died . My mother and I were shopping for school cloth's and were getting in the car leaving the store. My mom cranked up the car and it came over the radio that Elvis had died and my mom started to cry unconsoleable I felt so bad for her and that I couldn't comfort her. We sat ion the JCPenny parking lot a good 15 to 20 mins until she was able to drive and then never spoke a word the whole way home. i will never forget that day!!

I had a similar experience I was 14 and in my mothers car and it came on the radio, the funny thing it hit me later in my life when I learned all about him. I have been to Graceland 4 times.

In '77 I was in Vegas and was casual friends with a guitarist, Keith Lee. I'm a musician and was introduced to Keith by a mutual friend because of our musical connection. Keith told me he just got the job playing guitar for Elvis's next tour. Not knowing him well, I didn't wholly believe him. Late in '77 I ran into him again through this same friend and went to see him in this all black jazz band. He's also black. I had no ideal what a monster player he was. Sadly, Elvis died before that tour.

Great video with historic interviews. I've been a musician for over 50 years, but honestly, in my earlier days I never really appreciated the music of Elvis & other innovative pioneers of modern music. Of course, the more I learned about Elvis & those early days, I learned to understand & appreciate how Elvis changed the course of modern music - as much as The Beatles & a select few others. I now understand how Important he is to the evolution of music. Thank you Joe! Great job.

Joe...this clip is pure gold. Thank you, yet again! Ya know....amid all the fanfare, lighting rigs, background singers and Guercio’s brass, was Jerry Scheff. When I discovered all the live Elvis stuff years back- everything from ‘69 to Aug. ‘77...for me personally, it’s always been about what Jerry offered up with this band. His exemplary bass playing urged me to play better. Ronnie Tutt and Glen D. Harding, Jim Burton and Jerry is usually where my focus would rest. Elvis did recruit the best no doubt. Tommy Cogbill’s playing too...is off the charts amazing. He was like the Jamerson of the south. A talent of the highest order he was...and sorely missed. Thanks Joe.

I was at my friends house the day ep passed away. I heard the radio announcement as i pulled into the driveway to park. He had gotten to see ep, i had not. We were teenagers then. Rest in peace Chadwick. Keep the king company til we all get to play together.

I was a long distance operator in Alaska when I took a call from a long distance operator in Tennessee. She was crying. Not knowing what was going on, thinking maybe the operator had an emergency, I had my hand up and my supervisor plugged into my position to listen with me. I asked her how I could help her. She just kept sobbing. I had her taking deep breaths trying to help her calm down so she could speak. She finally managed to tell me Elvis had died. Tears sprang to my eyes but I managed to remain professional asking her if she was sure? She began to cry again sobbing ‘yes.’ Slowly she managed to say it was all over the local news but knew it took us awhile to get news and wanted to let us know. I thanked her for her call looking at my supervisor who nodded I could end the call. My normal hard ass supervisor had tears streaming down her face. I told the Tennessee operator it was terrible news, again thanked her, then said good bye.
I told the women seated around me the news which quickly spread through out the room. Our supervisor had to take a break. The room had gotten so quiet with a sob here and there. Another supervisor called Tennessee, another long distance supervisor who she said was so upset, to verify the horrible news. Then she announced to the room that it was true. We had incoming calls and had to put our personal feelings aside and get back to work. But the entire room of women of all ages, I was 23 years old, had taken on a feeling of such sadness like we had all experienced a death in each of our families.
I don’t think today’s generations can possible understand the impact that incredible man had on our country, on our lives, on the entire music industry. There was, there always will be, just one ELVIS.

The songs recorded at that studio with those musicians were the best recordings Elvis ever made. Not just the hits that came out of those sessions but every song was a master piece. The fact that Elvis never returned to that studio was a damn shame. Parker was a disgrace who didn't deserve to have such a gifted artist under his thumb.
J P Yes, Parker was a disgrace - and I’m tired of hearing about it. You know what’s a bigger disgrace? Elvis keeping The Colonel on as his manager for his entire career. Elvis was an adult man and he chose The Colonel. Plenty of successful artists know when they need to change managers. Successful artists surround themselves with people who are good for their creative lives; not a bunch of overgrown teenage men engaging in hijinks with the boss. Elvis made his choices and as big a fan as I am, I recognize Elvis was a troubled guy from a tough upbringing subjected to a lot of pressure he really couldn’t handle well.
@@danc3693 I agree. I believe Elvis simply didn't like confrontation and didn't want to be bothered with the business side of his career. He should have axed Parker and had Priscilla take over as his manager. Just look what she did with Graceland. Ah but all the could ah's and should of's can't change a thing. Elvis made his musical decisions. The Colonel took care of the management end. Had Elvis wanted to record at Americsn Studios again, he damn well could have.

Elvis may have thought he was in charge of the music but it was the Colonel who was in charge of everything. Could Elvis have changed that? Sure. But he never did.

@@GeorgiaOverdrive bullshit, Colonel only intercepted what he could, Elvis didn't have control over movie scene-specific songs. The colonel tried to push what they controlled in publishing yes, but Elvis could do mostly what he wanted after 68. If he actually wanted to...
What gets me is Elvis knew when he made a error. Maybe that’s the reason when he worked with RCA that he would do so many takes. He liked to listen to a song after it was recorded. But that’s why they rehearsed so much before a big show.

In hearing these men talk about Elvis, how they admired him very much. They knew Elvis was the real deal. I have heard some of his takes on TH-cam. Yes, he sounded very good before the final take. It is said he had a very good memory too. Yes, I had a crush on Elvis, if I had known him, I would have liked being a little sister to him, knowing him personally (at home, every day life). He stayed down to earth, appreciated his success very much. I wish he lived years longer, to live at Graceland longer, he could tell the stories too, and for his daughter, Lisa Marie (not necessarily in that order). When anyone that knew Elvis, that talks about the day he died, I tear up or cry. It has been that many years since he died, but when that day comes to mind (days afterwards too), very sad. It seems like cameras were focussed on him 24/7 but he never acted like he was aware of them, apart from the smile he directed at them sometimes. Seemed completely unaware of his own physical attraction. I sometimes wonder what he saw when he looked in the mirror every morning to shave - same old two eyes, one nose, one mouth?
