    a) You mentioned in passing "a design flaw" and b) I know that correcting manufacturers is a controversial subject. Having said that, wouldn't it be a good idea to move the defrost sensor to the most iced-up area of the evaporator and be sure each time it is 100% de-frosted? Thank you for another opportunity to learn.

    • @rookierefrigeration4357
      @rookierefrigeration4357  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes. That is exactly what needs to be done. But we aren’t allowed to change it when we want. This chain only allows us to change these things if it’s approved. It’s so dumb. But you are 100% correct. I’d love to relocate it to the top right part of the coil in between the fins. Great comment bro

      @@rookierefrigeration4357 they likely placed it at the end to shield from physical damage when cleaning, also to prevent freeze/thaw cycles of ice pushing it out.
      that was less of an issue with the capillary tube sensor type shoved deep inside the fins parallel with the tubing.
      it's almost like engineers back then knew what they were doing, learning by trial and error in the field with real testing and not just some electronics/programmer nerds hacking a refer system by poking keyboards lol.

    I am not in the trade, so I might be missing something - but my suggestion would be to label the connectors with a small point sharpie ("SUC" for suction temp, "DEF" for defrost, and so on). Of course it should have been the person unplugging the connectors who should have been doing it, but better late than never.

    are the defrost element supposed to be hanging that far below the coils on the end not defrosting as well? I don't recall seeing them hanging low on others, did the retainer clip pop out during shipper or from icing up solid? those hanging would make it defrost uneven since it's mostly convection heat then, vs. radiant almost directly into the fins and lowest tubing

  • @hvac01453
    @hvac01453 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    you questioned the placement of the probes "return/Supply".... I would check to see if the OEM was truly having the airflow like that. Someone may have replaced the blades or something... All the AHU I've seen PULL air through the coil. This also makes it much easier to clean the coil because the dirt is on the outer face of the coil. I have seen low velocity coils push air but then again those are usually on large up-flow types.

    • @hvac01453
      @hvac01453 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ya really....they could have at least colored them different.....OR..... its the same sensor, just installed in a different location. In this way, you could stock just one sensor in the truck.

  • @throttlebottle5906
    @throttlebottle5906 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd guess it's flooding the evap coil too, since the suction temp reading is high until it eventually freezes into block and of course the defrost terminates way early.
    hard to say what else the controller would do wrong when in defrost or cooling, there could be many complex issues as it cycles icing further with time. likely they've never dreamed nor imagined that could happened and have nothing in programming and design to catch the issue. I guess they could have used all different plug types, but that would be a nightmare down the road.
    I guess they expected the tech to label them while removing or direct board to board swap that rat-nest, but was it ever right from the factory to start with?

  • @jimmyp5487
    @jimmyp5487 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    And your EEV is gonna flood the evap coil cause the suction line sensor is on the defrost sensor. Good find 🤘way to be thorough

    • @rookierefrigeration4357
      @rookierefrigeration4357  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it was raised from 55 to 65 already. If any changes were to be made, I’d relocate that defrost sensor to inside the coil on the top part, right corner. That’s my next move if it ices up again.

    • @whitesheatingairappliancer7101
      @whitesheatingairappliancer7101 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get you.sensor would be iced up. For defrost to terminate, it would melt the ice. Hopefully manufacturer doesn't have any compromised parts effected by the prolonged heat. Take care rookie.

    If the evaporator is maintained above 0 degrees Celsius, for the water not to freeze on coils, how is it possible that any well working freezer cools down to (minus) -21 degrees Celsius?
    Logically thinking, if the evaporator air-flow outlet temperature is +0.2 degrees Celsius, the temperature could not go under it (to -1, -2 … -21°C), would it?
    Can somebody, please answer this question that really knows the correct answer.

      Something like 3m H-5223 wire coding tape : It has a plastic case that hold 10 rolls of 1/4 wide tape with numbers -- also comes in colors. Maybe the manufacture could also save itself some trouble by coding each end of the cable. And Yes, some manufactures offer their connector solutions in multiple colors. One could also use a standard label printer or Sharpie markers , if one needed to sort out a mess.
