I agree. Plácido knows his voice is not the same anymore and asked Dimash to do the tenor part, and they had fun with it! That's all that matters. Comparing them is totally inappropriate and disrespectful. Dimash wouldn't like that either. People should look at Placido's earlier performances to get a gist of who he is.

Я и плакала иногда, так мне не хотелось заниматься. И как же я благодарна родителям сейчас! Спасибо им огромное за то, что заставили закончить музыкальную школу. Я не стала музыкантом, но для меня открылся мир красоты классической музыки. И это прекрасно! А с Димашем я уже 7 лет и не устаю восхищаться его талантом. Люблю и уважаю его музыкальное дарование и человеческие качества!!
Я тоже благодарен, что мама водила меня на концерты. Хотя тогда я ненавидел это, сейчас мне нравится слышать такие вещи, как этот дуэт.

i've never seen a person here in russia who has graduated a music school and play now just for fun as a hobby. they actually don't have music instruments in their homes. it's a strange thing with russian music shools education.
When they met and Placido asked Dimash to sing with them, he said to Dimash very simply that he could no longer sing the tenor parts so he would sing the baritone part and Dimash would sing the tenor part. Very humble. Dimash, at 29, was so honored to sing with the 83-year old maestro--he told him it was his childhood dream!

This was a dream come true for Dimash. He shared that, at the age of 5, he had a VHC of a concert of Maestro Domingo and dreamed from then to meet and work with him. I am sure Dimash appreciated being invited to be a judge on the Virtuoso program, finding young classical artists, at the invitation of Maestro Domingo. The difference is that DIMASH can do anything or any type of music he chooses; not many singers can do that if any of them can do it. DIMASH is a rare jewel of music talent the sort of which we may never see again in this world.

It's no wonder that Dimash knows how to sing opera as well, he went to music school and the conservatory where he specialized in opera!
Over the last few months, Dimash has sung thus opera aria, a blues sing with vampire mv, a jazzed up Kazakh folk song where he played keyboard and dombra too, took part in lots of Chinese festivals, with casts of hundreds, a new version of battle of memories in Macau which has a James Bond type vibe and did two new pop songs at his Hong Kong concert and a stripped back version of Omir which he composed and wrote lyrics for. You just don’t know what he will come out with next. Amazing artist. Love him so much.

The baritone part supports the more exalted tenor part in this duet. At one time Mr Domingo would’ve performed the tenor role and been the one in the spotlight, (as indeed he was in his prime,) but at 83, he is passing the torch to the next generation by stepping back and letting Dimash shine. My joy comes from hearing my two favorite tenors of all time perform together. How lucky we are to be alive during the time that Dimash is astounding us all with his unparalleled talent!

When they first met, M. Domingo told Dimash that considering his old age, he could still sing but more in the baritone range than tenor. That is why Dimash takes up the tenor part with this song..

Maestro Placido Domingo told Dimash that he could no longer sing the tenor notes as easily. He told Dimash that he would sing the baritone notes (which Domingo said were his natural ones) and Dimash could take the tenor part of the duet. What an amazing experience to see this 83 year old treasured performer standing alongside the 29 year old Dimash -- and the two of them giving us such a gift.
So good to see a lover of great music and your common sense reactions. I’ve always love Domingo but must agree that Dimash was the superior voice.

You should definitely listen to "El Amor en ti", where Dimash sings baritone and tenor, soprano and modern vocals. It's very interesting even just to watch, that concert in Almaty was wonderful. The video is on his channel

You will see that Dimash is the premier singer in any duet yet you will see he holds back as not to overshadow the duet partner. There are many duets out there, and all of them with the exception of one is outstanding. In the one that was not good it was the duet partner that was just void of any personality at all on stage. Don't worry to much about doing the request in order etc because if it is Dimash we will be happy to see it.

I love Dimash more than most,(ask my family), but you have to realize how old Placido is. He’s in his eighties, also he’s singing this one as a baratone, when he’s a tenor, letting Dimash sing as a tenor. I think they both were great👍❤️
83yo tenor, Placido, is singing the baritone part in this wonderful duet. I believe Dimash is the greatest vocalist I have ever heard in my own 82 years on this planet, but I think, however, that Dimash is a bit over-powering in this performance. Placido asked Dimash to do the duet with him, and it has been a lifelong dream of Dimash's to sing with Placido. All that aside, this is probably (IMHO) the most beautiful male/male duet ever written. It comes from Georges Bizet's 1863 opera, "The Pearl Fishers". In case you didn't know, Placido and Dimash had only the day of performance to rehearse the number. Amazing! You might want to check out the best recording of "The Pearl Fishers' Duet", by (again IMHO) the greatest tenor ever to set foot on a stage, Jussi Björling, and baritone, Robert Merrill. btw: I do enjoy your reactions.

So there's 53 years between them, let that sink in for a moment. Placido's voice is still wonderful at age 82 in this clip. What an honor for our beloved Dimash and a great joy for Maestro Domingo…. And I was bathed in tears of joy. I'm sooo happy.
Dimash was asked to participate as a judge in the competition for young classical musicians... and then... he gave us dear ones this wonderful jewel.
Maestro Domingo invited Dimash to sing the duet with him the day before. Dimash only had a short night to learn this song in French... and besides, Dimash had a cold with a cough. (You notice it more clearly in the second song at the end of the concert.)
Dimash would never act recklessly towards his duet partners. With good manners and respect, he would never drown out Maestro Domingo (then still 82) with his voice. He even adapts to Maestro Domingo's vocal color.

Dimash can sing anything! Of course Placido Domingo has 83 years old and known with Luciano Pavarotti e Jose Carreras for the best tenors, so his voice is not the same. I don't like Opera but Dimash sing made me like it!

Let us be fair to Mr Domingo. He is 82 or 83 years old. Like the rest of our body, our vocal instrument ages. Mr Domingo is singing the baritone in this piece because he can no longer reach the higher octaves that this piece requires. However, with that said Dimash songs amazing.
G'day from Sydney. To be fair to Placido, he is now in his early 80s, and his voice is no longer suited to very high notes. So here he is taking the Baritone role and Dimash the Tenor. Placido has been one of the great tenors of all time and Dimash is probably the greatest voice ever. BUT he could not outperform a current premium tenor, simply becuase he has spread his gifts over such wide areas of music and general showmanship. To be a world class tenor (and he has the capability), Dimash would have to spend a couple of years devoted to that one aspect of his voice, which would as you say be a great loss to the world. Nevertheless, this duet represents a lifelong dream for Dimash, and a beautiful postscript to a legendary career for Placido. And they blend beautifully and seem to genuinely like and respect each other, so well done all, and thanks for another great reaction.

Placido was singing the baritone role here, not the tenor part. That part he gave to Dimash as he told Dimash he cannot sing the tenor notes anymore and he's classified himself as a baritone now. And Dimash would never intentionally outshine a duet partner. He has too much respect for his seniors to do that. And Dimash is 50 years younger than Placido, so younger voice would be stronger. Fue un performance que el mismo Domingo le pidió a Dimash donde el mismo maestro le dijo que ya no cantaba como antes (la voz envejece) y Dimash reciprocó su admiración. No son comparables, fue un dueto amistoso, menos están compitiendo, Domingo tiene 83 años y es un artista con varios record guiness que ya está más allá del bien y del mal porque lo ha dado todo en la ópera y aun conserva la belleza del timbre de su voz.

Unfortunately, Placido Domingo's voice has become lower than it was at Dimash's age... But what a blessing that he pleases us with his beautiful singing at his 84 (!!!) years! And how delicately Dimash restrains himself a little, allowing his partner to shine. And all this after just one rehearsal! Placido sang this for many, many years, and Dimash performed it for the first time!

Well, Domingo was almost 83 when they recorded this. At this age, as a singer you are past your prime of course. This is also the reason why Domingo sings the baritone part of the duet (although he still sounds like a tenor), while Dimash does the higher tenor part. Sadly, some opera purists complain that Dimash doesn't sing operatic enough in this. However, I don't care because Dimash´s voice is just so beautiful that I could listen to this all day long.

I love watching your reactions. (I am also thrilled that you watched all 12 of the LiLaSi Guide to Dimash and that now you really know him and what an amazingly kind and humble person he is.). Watching Domingo throw up his hands all excited to meet Dimash was wonderful. You can find their meeting on TH-cam. He invited Dimash to do a duet and said he could no longer do the high notes but he could still sing. “I don’t have the whole piano like you do.”
There was an interview with the producer of the Virtuosos show who said Dimash has been invited back to be a judge again next season, along with Plácido Domingo but with the addition of Jose Carreras. The “Three Tenors”were Pavarotti, Domingo, and Carreras. Sadly, Pavarotti is gone but here’s hoping for a performance with Dimash, Domingo, and Carreras.

He had tenors in the past who drowned him out. Whether that happens depends on the tenor. Also Placido Domingo is 83, and naturally does not have the air that he did when younger. I think Dimash realized this early in the piece and adjusted his air/volume accordingly, resulting in the greater harmony we hear later.

This duett was created in Budapest, thay were on the jury at the V4 talent show, and Domingó asked them to sing togater. Te song was performed after only one rehealsal. Mária Magyar Hungary. In fairness to Plasido he is 53 years older than Dimash so he can no longer sing the tenor part. Considering he's 83 he sounds amazing in the baritone role in this video. I suggest you check out Plasido when he was young and you'll see a huge difference. Of course Dimash shows us he could have been a major operatic star had he chosen that path. But luckily he has decided to show everyone that he is the most versatile snger the world has ever seen.
I agree. Dimash would outdo even Pavarotti. No offense everyone... Just remember, Dimash asides from having a special vocal instrument, he has trained since he was 5 years old. He tones down a lot in duets... Domingo is still the best tenor alive today. Dimash is above any classification. ❤

I have to agree with you, Dimash does outshine Placido, and with good reason. Although Dimash does not sing opera perfectly in a technical sense and Placido does, Dimash's voice is just so sweet and pleasing, clear, powerful and soaring, that those of us Dears who listen to the duet automatically prefer his voice over that of Placido. Placido here sings the baritone parts as his voice has aged and he can no longer do the tenor. He awards that part to Dimash as he know he will sing it beautifully. Placido is a big fan.
We cannot place Dimash at the pinnacle of opera singing for several reasons. He does not sing in vibrato for every note like he should do, and Placido does. He does not use the resonant vocal technique that allows the voice to be heard at the back of the theatre without amplification, and Placido does. He does not pronounce the French words correctly, nor does he get the stress on the final word of each line in the correct place, nor does he get the rhythm of the phrasing right, whereas Placido does. But we have to remember, Placido has probably sung this duet hundreds of time throughout his career and Dimash has not. And this performance was after only one day's preparation, a single rehearsal with the orchestra, and Dimash had been suffering from a cough. But despite all of those things, for me Dimash takes the crown. I honestly don't care if technically he is not perfect. His voice sounds the best to my ears, and I think for me that's all that counts. I think it's all that counts for you too ❤❤❤
