- Exploring rural Southern Thailand by motorbike is incredible but today we made a terrible decision to climb a mountain temple in the summer heat with no water.. At 3PM!
Our motorbike journey in Phatthalung province brought us through the peaceful thai countrysides and to Wat Khao Chiak.
The temple grounds of Wat Khao Chiak were beautiful but we decided to hike up the steps behind the temple to the top of the mountain.
We did this at 2/3PM with no water after already doing a huge hike at sunrise, this was officially the worst idea ever. The thai summer sun absolutely destroyed us it was the hottest we've ever been but in the end definitely worth it.
On the way home to Phatthalung city we stopped at a local market on the highway. We tried snakefruit for the very first time and met some super friendly people.
I'll say it again Phatthalung and this part of Thailand is extremely underrated I can't believe people don't visit here 🇹🇭

As Kelly mentioned below the heat in Thailands summer is no joke. I avoid staying in Thailand's north during this season ( due to burning season) and avoid staying in the concrete jungle of Big Mango. For the south however, I think this season is the best.!Just stay in the shade and hydrated.

The fruit you purchased at local market is Salak, Zalacca. It is a plant in the palm family. And is in the same genus as the sala tree is a native plant of Indonesia. There are over 20 species of this fruit but the most popular one in Thailand is called "Sala Sumalee" (The same one you purchased ! ) There are many farms in Southern , Eastern of Thailand planting them. We hope you could enjoy its taste and smell. FYi.

Between April and June, when the weather is hot, you should always have these things with you.
1) Cold water bottle (keep the temperature)
2) and a small umbrella
3) Paracetamol for pain relief
4) Long-sleeve shirt

You went on a pilgrimage to the temple in the heat. The people that built those stairs and the structures at the top, wow, l'm always in awe of them. I'll say one thing, heatstroke is the worst feeling ever. Stay hydrated A and E.
As soon as we saw it we knew we had to climb to the top but yeah we underestimated the sun so badly it killed us!
In the summer, Thai people like to carry portable ice flasks to drink cold water while traveling. A black shirt will make you very hot. You two are awesome and very patient traveling in the hot sun. Be careful of heat strokes. I recommend that you eat freshly cooked food in to avoid food poisoning. Because in the summer, the food will spoil easily.

Khao Wong Prachan (Moon Mountain) is the highest peak in Lopburi. There are 3790 walking steps to the top. The temple organizes annual 24 hours hiking trek with lighted walkway up the mountain for 15 days usually at the beginning of February. Some years due to popular demand, the period is extended to 30 days. There are vendors at periodic resting stops selling cool drinks and snacks. However, outside the annual hiking trek 15 days period, no vendors are found along the temporary stops. You need to buy all food and drink, put them in backpack before your journey. No lights at night so only day time hiking is possible. Only physically fit person is recommended to take on the adventure to this mountaintop temple

Well, you've climbed another mountain in the hot weather again! The view up there looks mesmerizing. Travelers compare this mountain as if it were the Switzerland of Phatthalung. The Khao Chiak temple you visited is an old abandoned that gives another kind of peaceful atmosphere. I think you two might be the only foreign tourists who have been there and shared your experience. The delicious southern desserts you ate are rarely seen in other tourist destinations. You are good luck to have tasted them. Salak is difficult to peel. I'll only buy when it's peeled off. The juice made from Salak is fragrant and delicious. Hope you enjoy every trip. Stay safe, be careful of traveling in the middle of the day. If possible, try to avoid the strong sunlight.

hey. i would like to think i am the first foreigner to have been there. I am Belgian, my wife is from phatthalung.10 years ago you still had a nice view up there, but it was poorly maintained there. that little market is called ban hua yang market. and that pancake dessert is called khanom fak bua. I really enjoy your journey through phatthalung. I hope more videos follow. Wishing you lots of luck and great adventures in Thailand.

The shop you stop by is selling coconut meat for coconut milk, not coconut drink.
And your Thai is so great, I am sure within months you will be very fluent.
Summer in Thailand is so hot and humid. It would not be that bad if it was only the heat. But the humidity makes things worse as if you were in a sauna all the time.
Electrolyte drinks will help, along with a wet wipe is even better. Then jumping into a river or waterfall will refresh you.
There is no one at Wat Khai Jiak during that time of the day because it is way too hot.

With the weather being hot and you have to do your videos outdoors, you are at risk of heatstroke.
That's why I recommend you to have the cooling powder sold in 7/11 with you. It stays cool when exposed to a little sweat or water.
But it's important that black clothing absorbs the most heat. You should avoid it.

Hi Ellis, I have been watching you guys for some time! I just wanted to reach out and mention something safety related when you are out motorbike / scootering. You are really risking a potentially serious injury to your eyes from objects could be rocks etc. I have motorcycle'd all my life and everytime I see you out doing that I cringe. Love your content.

Summer in Thailand you have to beware of 2 main problems, heatstroke and food poison. The food going bad very easy in the summer, please be careful otherwise have a safe trip.

As a mother of two adult children, please make sure you always have at least 1 bottle water innyour backpack, wherever you go. Take care. Have the two of you been to Kanchanburi (hope i spelt that right) Where the Bridge over River Kwai is. We were told there is nice water fall near by and a memorial dedicated tonthe 1600 +men that passed away builing the bridge. Would love to see that area. Xx

The Sala or Salak fruit is normally sold around 70-100 Baht per kilogram in Bangkok, depends on the market. Eat chilled and it will be tastier.

Wat Prathat Doi Suthep and practically all temples in the North and in Laos as well have two Nagas (mythical serpent-like beast living underworld) guarding the steps leading into the temple. It is believed that Naga King is the underworld ruler and is a devout Buddhist disciple. Thus, sometimes you can see an image of Buddha meditating under the tree with Naga King guarding behind with his 7 heads above Buddha's head to protect him from wind/rain. There are also standalone Naga statute along Meking River on both sides of Thailand and Laos, the most famous of which is at Nakhon Phanom with 7 heads. It might be noted that one of the largest royal barge of Thai King has 7-heads Naga as its head. The mortal enemy of Naga is Garuda (a mythical flying beast) which is supposed to be God Rama's mount. Indonesia and Thailand deem Garuda as high class mythical beast and Indonesia's National Carrier is "Garuda". Garuda is also the official symbol of Thai King, thus official document would have Garuda symbol at its head. When there is an official royal announcement from the King or Palace, the initial TV screen features Garuda for a minute before the royal text appears together with reading sound.
