I'm a Mac user by choice, but my job just gave me one of these G7 Elitebooks for work and I have to say for a PC it's very attractive and well built. I'm impressed. The build quality along with the design language is very similar to a MacBook Pro. Very nice. The speakers are pretty decent as well. This thing is way more powerful than what I'll be using it for with my job, but definitely a pleasure to use. This won't convert me to PC, but kudos to HP. Great job.

The g5 can dock to the slim dock from 2013 whereas the g7 can’t. That’s really a bummer..

Maybe a local repair shop may be able to assist. Normally the issue can be a driver missing or otherwise it would be hardware.

HP EliteBook 830 G6 was launched a year later for all intents and purposes is not much different to the G5 in real world usage. Because of the later launch, the unit might be in better condition if you're buying refurb / is more likely to still have some OEM warranty.
