The problem is that this is a Netflix funded film and so the writing had to match their expectations. Which I believe is what doomed this " straight to home video " low level of quality.

I’m hoping he eventually films Lethal Weapon 5 but actually putting lots of completely great effort in it to make it good unlike this horrible film/movie
When it comes to directing, I think Mel's philosophy is, "one for them (the studio system), and one for me (a personal project he has passion for) ." Flight Risk is obviously one of the ones for the studios. Mel will then take his paycheque for this film, and use it to help produce either Resurrection (the long-awaited sequel to The Passion of the Christ, or the 5th Lethal Weapon entry, a sequel that Mel promised the late director Richard Donner he would finish for him before he passed away. Flight Risk felt like it was basically a cross between Midnight Run and Turbulence. A fun popcorn movie at best.

Ok Another Review Where I’m Very Glad I’m Not The Only One That Thought This Movie Was Crap. The Only Amount Of Enjoyment I Got In This Film Was Mark Whalberg Besides That Everything Else Was Garbage. Great Reviews As Always Man
I watched this tonight. Went in with low expectations and did enjoy it more than I expected. Wasn't amazing by a longshot but didn't find it awful. Although I do understand how you feel about it.
Why I am not surprise that this was a bad one, Cody? I had this feeling after seeing the trailer for the first time that this wasn't going to be a good one, even if was directed by Mel Gibson.
Ngl I had fun with it, it is a fun dumb thriller that entertained me... Mark playing a creepy villain was cool to watch and Mel did some good stuff with the camera that elevated the movie using some weird interesting angles. Is it is worst movie? Yes, but I still had fun, people went with their expectations too high based on his other films Btw for those who haven´t yet watch Mel´s first movie as a director The Man Without a Face, super underrated movie!
Yeah,it’s a strange one. 99 times out of a hundred you come away from seeing a movie knowing whether you liked it or not. Very rarely, you find yourself thinking: I don’t know what just happened 🤷🏻♂️this was one of those times 🤔
I Like Mel Gibson as an Actor, he’s a Good Actor, very Charismatic & Talented, I Don’t Like Him Real Life Though, But I Like Him as an Actor, I Love Lethal Weapon 1 & 4, Bird On A Wire, Conspiracy Theory, The Patriot, Signs, Edge Of Darkness, Get The Gringo, Blood Father, & The Fatman are my Favorites Of His as an Actor, I Love Get The Gringo & Hacksaw Ridge Those are My Favorites Of His as a Director
I've seen 3 vastly different reviews for this movie. One liked the beginning and said it fell off from there. The second said it started slow and then picked up. This one came off as unnecessarily negative for the sake of being negative. Had no intention of checking it out, but now I'm curious who I would agree with.
And here i was thinking about going to see this movie haha I still might but we'll see. I'm a big fan of Braveheart and Hacksaw Ridge. Both are some of my favorite films of all time so I might end up going to see this even if I have less faith than I'd like to have. Sometimes it's nice to just have a new movie to see
Cody, love your reviews and I don't doubt this review as the trailer looks as bad as you are saying it is. Just want to add one thing about the Topher Grace stuff you said within the 7 minute mark of your video. I recommend you watch - if you haven't yet that is - IN GOOD COMPANY from 2004 with Dennis Quaid and Scarlett Johansson. Phenomenal film and an amazing performance from Topher that is not goofy. I do mostly agree what you said about the kind of films he thrives in and what he doesn't, but this one is an anomaly if you will and so worth the watch (also he didn't seem goofy in INTERSTELLAR, but he wasn't a big character in that one, and Nolan makes everyone look great in his masterpieces).
Guess now we know what happened to Ben after Short Circuit 2. 😉😂🤣 Idk, maybe when you have pros like Mike, Bill, and Kevin over at RiffTrax get their hands on this, it might be more enjoyable. 😉 Yeah, I'll probably wait for that until I see it. Anyways, still enjoyed your video at least. Thank you, Cody.
Had a feeling the movie wasn’t great, but I’ll probably still see it for the fact that the plane used was one use for work and the actual pilot is a friend of mine.
I'm just sad Mel is ending his streak of like 10/10 directorial movies, but it's awesome he did it with a ridiculously goofy bad one. I knew it would be terrible when I saw Wahlbergs bad bald head haha
I made a video where I called movie directors "overrated" because it seems like the limitations of the past is what unintentionally made them look great. I wish it would have gotten more views, because I mean it more and more with every new film release attached to a "legendary" director.
This seems more like a Mark Wahlberg type of film than a Mel Gibson type of film. I'd guess that Wahlberg drove the hiring of Gibson, who's basically been settling for films that are beneath him since his infamous DUI tirade (directing Hacksaw Ridge being the huge exception).
Nah that would only make sense possibly if Mel Gibson was acting in it but for him to direct , Mel usually has a high standard and vision and this feels like it's not even him who actually directed it. It's really weird
My theory is that Mel Gibson agreed to direct this as a bet or a something. Like someone told him, yeah, I got this script thats so bad that nobody could ever make a good movie out of it. And he took it as a challenge.
Man I never thought Mel Gibson would ever make a bad film, in my opinion, he’s had a fantastic track record of good to epic movies. Hopefully his directing job for the last lethal weapon movie will be an excellent conclusion to a fantastic saga.
Disappointed to learn that “Flight Risk” is a poorly scripted film. I absolutely love most of Mel Gibsons work. But then again I was already initially skeptical in this film when I learned that not only is this a January release but that this was also a Lionsgate distributed film.
