I actually really enjoyed this movie. It was so fascinating seeing it from the spirit’s perspective and it was fun cause it almost felt like I was the ghost. In my head I was also picturing how the movie would be from the character’s perspective in a regular haunted house movie, so experiencing both at the same time was pretty cool. I also loved Chloe, the dad, and the father-daughter dynamic so much; it was so sweet. The mom and the brother were a bit unbearable, tbh, and the kid did kinda got into super villain territory by the end. But overall, it was a good watch and I can see this becoming a comfort film.
I will say that Neon has to stop promoting their films as “the scariest, most chilling movie of the year” though 💀 It messed up people’s experience with Longlegs and, while it didn’t ruin Presence, it definitely wasn’t what I was expecting and I can see people having an issue

I liked the movie too. I almost had a heart attack at the third act and I was crying at the end, so sad too. Well made movie but not a full blown horror movie.

There’s no way ur over 30 years old. And if u are u live alone and don’t go out much. This movie just wasn’t good, the cinematography was phenomenal, but we literally knew nothing about the characters and anything dramatic that happened happened so fast and out of left field and like what the fuck was the mom doing? How are those parents still together? Are they not aware that their children fucking hate each other and the ending was just the stupidest thing. I literally turned to my wife, and I said if this is it, WOW… and when the brother comes home and says how excited he is that ‘some popular kid took interest in him and how huge this was for him.’ I’m sorry but if anyone within 30 miles of me had those words come out of their mouth, I want nothing to do with them and they’re the biggest douche bags with no self-respect and I can go on and on, but you get the point

From the Ocean’s Trilogy to Erin Brockovich to the Magic Mike franchise, Steven Soderbergh is one of the more diverse filmmakers working today. He was even offered to direct Death Becomes Her and 50 Shades of Grey. Soderbergh isn’t one of my favorite directors, but I do appreciate his perspective of filmmaking.

    @jillybean0528 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

My wife and I loved this movie. Neither of us saw the twist coming at all, so might be why we enjoyed it more. I found that the narrator (the presence) being limited, made everything more interesting. It made sense to us that the parents didn’t openly talk about what the wife did. Their relationship was BIG TIME on the rocks, and he had only just told her that he was sticking it out with her right before the trip. Plus, 2 teenagers roaming around, doesn’t sound like something to just be blabbing about in the middle of the day. I’m sure they hashed it all out on the trip, which the narrator wasn’t present for, so it was believable we didn’t get the details.
I know it’s slow burn and definitely a family drama /thriller/mystery and not a “horror” movie, but that was something I really appreciated. It didn’t neatly fit into one box. I do agree that it’s a con (and the biggest one for me) is that it doesn’t lend itself to multiple watches. Once you know, the power of the ending is gone.
    Just my two cents!

This felt like the entire first act had been ommited, the second act was stretched out to film 85% of the run time, and then we got just bits and pieces of a third act.
The ghost haunting this house could almost be taken out entirely, and the plot would be no different. The characters would still likely end up in the same position, and the film then basically just stops, without any resolution to anything.

I agree with you, this film is not a horror, and the marketing department may end up hurting this film - they are completely making a mistake in the direction they are taking which will leave people disappointed going into it, expecting a horror. It’s a drama as you say with supernatural elements, not scary at all! It was a unique experience, but I don’t think it warranted its length time which was already quite short, but felt longer. I would not go back again to watch this either, pretty much nailed the review of how I felt.

I took it as seeing it only from the perspective of the ‘presence,’ hence we didn’t get the full stories with the family. Despite that, I took it as…SPOILER/GIVEAWAY…that the mom was involved with some illegal behavior at her job, hence her getting the “computer virus” when she was actually deleting illegal information. Remember the dad suggesting a meet up with one of her co-workers when they were getting ready to leave town? Yeah, it wasn’t much of a story, but more of an emphasis on the big contrast in empathy and ethics between the parents.

Maybe not horror, which it seemed to be marketed as, but it is a good film.

I don't think the legal detail means much considering many crimes often get overlooked in the business world plus Lucy Liu sold me on her character.
Overall I thought the simple story and the gimmick worked well for me, especially when throw away lines throughout the film are paid off in the ending. First "good" film of the year so far I've seen

Saw it today rated it a 5.5 out of 10 . Still twice as good as Nosferatu though. The product placement clip is laughably jarring

In A Violent Nature for ghosts...
    And without the violence.
    I really really liked Presence.
I thought the family dynamic was pretty engaging and the last act got pretty tense when it tipped more towards the horror elements.

Movie completely disappointed and ruined what could've been a good premise with having this ghost not doing anything for 95% of movie. The little that happened supernatural was weak and not original. The ghost wasn't malevolent and it's power wasn't consistent, especially at end. They also never have closure with relationships between parents and mother/daughter. Ultimately I found it boring and not scary with characters that got on nerves.

Honestly, the ending really made up for the whole lackluster development. Like they deff should’ve sprinkled more scares in… and like pisses me off how thinks just left kinda loose at the end

Definitely nothing horror about this movie like they made it seem it was slow and boring the last 10 minutes of the movie were the best from the whole movie it had a cool twist though

I’ll be honest, I’m just out of it, I’m surprised so many people love it, I feel like it was a wasted concept, everything was brilliant except from the writing, but the writing is so important ina. Film like this. Acting was brilliant, cinematography was brilliant, the art of filmmaking was truly on display, but the writing failed to build atmosphere, and honestly made some of the characters very dislikable, which leaves the final twist on a sour note.
