    late but great video on an old topic lol
    I have some thoughts I'd like to add and correct a few of your points you made.
    1. Rangers have 7 move, not 8. Gerik's promotion is pretty much dependant on what you want him to do; you can have him rescue/drop other units around with his mount and still fairly be a gpod combat unit, or make him a juggernaut on the battlefield - which I prefer Hero Gerik for his high con in wielding heavy weapons doing big damage.
    2. Most skills in FE8 are level based, the unit's level is the percentage for skill activation Judging on promotion based on aquired skills isn't really a selling point because after promotion you're back at Lvl. 1, you'll have a single digit activation chance for pretty much the rest of the game (unless you're doing creature campaign). Also the crit bonus swordmasters/berzerkers/super trainees get is +15, not +30 like FE6.
    3. I would like to argue that promotion gains are a good factor to count into making the choice, there are a lot of useful gains that certain units will greatly benefit from. Garcia greatly benefits from +2 points of speed as a Hero vs. getting no speed at all as a Warrior. Vanessa/Tana greatly benefit from getting +4 points of con as a Wyvern Knight vs. +1 con as Falcon Knight, they're able to use heavier weapons with a lesser penalty in Attack Speed. Lute getting +3 points of con as a Mage Knight vs. +1 con as a Sage.
    4. Promoting Colm isnt really good in general, you do get buyable chest keys Chapter 9 Eirika and Chapter 10 Ephraim, you get a Rogue in Rennac for free*, use the Ocean Seal on Ross lol, or you can sell it for 5000 gold for other things you'll find better and useful than a promoted thief.
    I'm such a nerd on this series and i love talking about the pointless customization that Fire Emblem brings to strategy, play the game how you wanna play it at the end of the day lol

      Hey man I am glad you enjoyed the video, this is a topic I have always found interesting although I think this video is kind of a mess lol. I agree with the specifics you have brought up and probably should have delved into that stuff a bit more, most of the information in the video was from memory and I was just being a bit lazy with not looking up the promotion gains. Mostly I was trying to use Gerik as an example of why most choices are not great, because he compares a better class in hero, with a more mobile one in ranger, so he has two things balancing the choice. But almost all the other choices trade bad or mediocre things for really good things. Similarly with the promotion gains I choice not to acknowledge them partially for my own laziness, but also to make the point that most options are so one sided that they don't much matter. Which is not actually true, in fact you bring up a great point with the +4 con from the wyvern knight promotion, which had I known I would have mentioned in the video because that is really strong on pegasus knights. Finally I totally agree about Colm, training a thief in most Fire Emblem games is a bad idea, and Sacred Stones is no exception.

      Movement isn't that valuable a stat. Having 1 or 2 units with high movement depreciates the value of movement. Other stats don't work that way at all. Con has pros and cons to high vs low, growth stats all don't become less valuable due to stacking. On top of those stats not mattering to map design like movement is.

    when i was about 7 years old and playing this game for the first time, i had one priority: everyone had to use swords. i grinded my way through this game, which at the time I thought was the hardest game ever, and now i can see why it was so hard for me. on pretty much every turn i was picking the lesser choice.

      I understand your point here but that's like saying that taking any game at its base form seriously simply because it is easy is pointless. As I said in the video this channel is always playing fire emblem on hard and using iron man rules, and while sacred stones specifically is still not that difficult the other gba fire emblem games certainly are and even sacred stones has its tricky moments. Most people play Pokemon casually and it is not difficult, but there is a community for people who like to spice things up by playing with nuzlocke rules and discuss in depth things about the games. You don't have to want to play or experience the games in this way, but I do ask that you respect the perspective of this channel.

    I like the idea you can choose your promote classes in FE8. But, I think the developers of FE8 should have made more options to choose all of the available classes and even maybe reclassing for the players 3 trainees like Ross, Amelia, and Ewan.

    What do you do with Ewan? I was planning on making him a Druid since I have Artur and Lute for light and anima (and because Knoll sucks) but it sounds like that's not where you would go with him.

      You can be very successful with anything, but I think the best is summoner. That class gives you dark magic and staves which is all you really need offensively and the summon skill which can be really strong. But again, Ewan will be really strong no matter what you pick at the end.

      @@pannolinobambino1015 for sure, I'm learning from Kratos's solo runs that you can pretty much solo this game with just about anyone, so no wrong answers really 😅 but yea I think I'll go summoner just to switch it up, since I'm playing this game for the first time and I've got plenty of experience using Canas in FE7 as a druid.

    I have a counterpoint to this video, the game is still easy even when you're running around with 2 generals, 2 snipers and 3 assassins

    • @pannolinobambino1015
      @pannolinobambino1015  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is true, Sacred Stones is really easy even on hard mode and you can get away with using whatever units you want and promoting them however you want. I am making the point in this video that there are "correct" choices if you are trying to min max with classes, and most class choices are not close at all. I find what the developers chose to give each class to balance the choice interesting because almost none are actually balanced. But again, to your point this game is easy enough that you will be fine with whatever classes you want.

    I disagree about two things here:
    1. Mercenary should always go hero because bows are useless and fe8 is more of a enemy phase game, where most of your kills are done after you end your turn so handaxe is always better than bow.
    2. Thief should almost never promote because he will rarely see combat and if he is promoted it should always be a Rogue only because Assassin loses the ability to steal, and since you mostly don't use them for combat loss of the stealing ability and the fact that you could have sold the ocean seal instead of promoting are the main reason why i disagree with this choice.

    • @pannolinobambino1015
      @pannolinobambino1015  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment I appreciate it.
      1.While I agree that being able to use hand axes in this game is amazing, and I using do turn Gerrik into a hero, I think there is a conversation to be had about ranger because you get 2 extra movement. I really do think that getting amazing 1-2 range, versus getting 2 extra movement and at least kind of 1-2 range with bows is close and offers an interesting choice. My point with focusing on that example in the video is to highlight that as the only choice in the game that is close because either class has somthing really useful, and why that does not work for any other desicion.
      2. The example of theif, and myrmidon promotion choices is to show that some choices are close, but it is because they are both useless. I agree with you about not promoting theives and I said as much in the video, the same goes for myrmidons, because unlike Gerrik who gets 1-2 range or 2 extra movement, none of the theif or myrmidon promotion options get anything that fixes those class issues like that. I could have been more clear about whether you should even be promoting certain classes in the game but the video was more to give actual "correct" options for each class and using that as a lense to show how pointless nearly every promotion choice really is from a min max perspective.

    • @Malisa1990
      @Malisa1990 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pannolinobambino1015 Well in theory I agree that ranger vs hero is valid choice but look at it as this; You can always just rescue drop hero with cavalier/paladin/fliers. It's a pity that the bows are so bad in the game because I really like the idea of Ranger as a class, but being locked into the two worst weapons in the game is really unfortunate.
      About the second point, yeah I agree totally both promotions are really bad. At least... swordmaster has good crit bonus...even tho it's pretty worthless, especially in a game where your Jagen is Seth.
