Maybe? Very curious. I still think that perhaps it started out as a rental exclusive, and then realized it wasn't the hit they were expecting, and just started selling it.
Never played this one. Would like to try it sometime. Was probably too expensive in US online stores, so I must have passed it up. Or maybe they never had it. Do have the Sega cd game, but haven't played that much either.
It's definitely interesting that the game never was released in europe or at least germany considering the story was based here in bavaria and the 1994 movie was popular (altough it basically started the downfall of Robert DeNiro). I wonder if it was because both Zeppelin Games and Interplay owned a Frankenstein license and released PC games (Zeppelin's is crap, the Interplay one is a FMV adventure game featuring Tim Curry and that alone makes it awesome, it also got ported to the Saturn) around the same time. As for this console game: typical Sony Imagesoft. It's not good and too much of a castlevania rip off.
My thoughts on the rental sticker. Maybe if you rented the game and movie together at that shop, you'd receive a rental discount for both?

Let's make a platformer! The movie was good fun though.
happy halloween
"candy candy candy..."
Wish they had remade this movie starring Pauly Shore
I mean...I'd watch it.

There's definitely plenty of copies out there, it's just more expensive than your average title.
I fell for the trap of buying this game recently. Oof.
At least you could try selling it?
@ZilogandMoto yeah, it's on my "to sell" shelf.

It was definitely an improvement on Cliffhanger, but that's not saying much.
