another great year-end episode. congrats on 900! i was so sure that you’d be reaching 1k right about now, but it’s at least definitely gonna be Q1 2025. and my sense is that it becomes an order of magnitude easier to get people to tune in and subscribe with each decimal point milestone a channel reaches…i’m hoping it proves true for you! 🙏
We shall see. Honestly, I'm fine if the channel stays as it is, I'm just going to do my thing and everyone can either like it or go watch someone else. ;)
I'm happy that you are liking making your videos. I'm sure this year will have even more viewers. Hope you'll still be the same person you are now when you became rich with youtube's paychecks.
Happy to hear you are still enjoying making these, as i certainly enjoy watching these! I love your style of laid back reviewing with a little bit of humor in there. While i personally do not have a problem with adding 'modern' retro games in the list. Maybe it would be an idea to split the lists? So best original games and maybe best new games? But then i'd also think it fair to have a per console top 10, or i guess maybe a top 5 or top 3 to keep things more speedy. And then you get A LOT of lists which also does not seem ideal. But i'll check it out no matter what! All the best in 2025! Oh and for shmups, yes the pce does have that rep. But the md is def no slouch, i believe at least 80 entries? Your co-youtuber shmupjunkie has made a few vids on this subjects, one where even the snes gets involved. Because even though some shmups do have slow down, there is still a lot of shmup goodness on that system as well!
It's definitely something that I've debated in my head, because while those games run on real hardware, and there's still clearly talent there on the programmers part, I could totally see someone saying that they "cheated". I'll have to keep thinking about it. And as far as having "multiple" lists, I've already thought about that by the time I get to the Year 10 episode, I'll probably do separate lists for each of the consoles, so maybe at that point I'll pull them out. We'll see.
Keep up the good work! The only one of the games in your bad pile that I really disagree with is Great Ice Hockey. I had so much fun using the Sports pad with it. I totally got used to how it works.
I consider myself at least relatively well informed in most retro matters ,although admittedly i never had much interest in the master system (i do love the 80ies design of the model 1) beyond just playing most well know titels via my megadrive. But never even heard of the sports pad! Definitely googling it.
It's just especially rough trying to play it 2024, the Sports Pads are hard to maintain. If it had the gamepad functionality built into it as well, like Great Soccer does, it wouldn't be on the list. And I do like the concept of tying the inertia to the speed of the trackball, that was pretty clever.
The disregard for what altered beast did, by bringing the arcade to your palms, the large sprite's and parallax scrolling had never been seen before, imagine the wonder people felt. Forshame sir 😠
It's eye candy, at best. It has no replay value. I loved it as a kid too, but going back to play it as an adult, I realized it's got some faults, which is part of the point of the channel, to see what things hold up, and what things maybe I missed thirty years ago.
@ZilogandMoto Altered beast on the genesis was an arcade port, it's just fallowing the source material. The genesis was a arcade machine. Arcade game's were basic, what do you want?
@Troll_On_TH-cam you inadvertently answered your own question, most of my issues with the game go back to the original design. And let's be real, it wasn't a perfect port, the sound isn't as good and the graphics are missing detail, specifically all the scaling has been removed. If I can play a game, and within an hour, I've seen all there is to see, that's a problem, especially if it's the pack in game for a console and I have nothing else to play.
@@ZilogandMoto The impact of altered beast was huge, it was a huge leap from the nes, the large sprite's and parallax scrolling. It was very cool, and you're viewing it through a modern lens, and if that's the case no retro game should hold up to you.
🎉🎉🎉
wow, big year for the master system
awesome pick for number one
Was completely unexpected, for sure.
Keep up good work
Thank you!

I dunno man. Not having to pay for cups of coffee has changed many people. ;)
It's not a proper rewards show until Will Smith slaps somebody.
Happy New Year! Looking forward to another year of reviews!
I couldn't get him this year, he was busy doing Bad Boys 5.

I've got to buy a house first, then mortgage it. ;)
At last, cosmic justice is fulfilled and Berenstain Bears Camping Adventure is recognized for its excellence. Haha I love that game!

That'll happen when only three games get released that support it, and two of them had non-sports pad versions.
