I liked the v730 as well. You can push that tire 9 to 10/10ths the entire session and still set a fast lap on the last lap of the session was my experience. I had a set of A052 prior to that and absolutely hated them, mainly because they were only good for the first 2 laps. They felt fine the rest of the session with predictability and breakaway characteristics, but the grip was about 0.75s slower. They also wore out super super fast - only got 11 sessions out of them before deciding to replace them (didn't want to try to stretch seeing if they could do 14-15 sessions total on another trackday).
Prior to that I spent 5-6 years running NT-01s and RA1s.
I'm now on my first set of the 2nd gen CR-S. Still undecided on what I think of this tire. I think I might find myself back on the v730 after I polish of this set, the price difference and wear rates don't provide enough benefit for me to spend the extra money. Not sure if I want to take a chance on the RE-71rs. I was super happy with the v730 - i got 7 track days out of it while driving to and from the events on those tires.

      You echoed my exact thoughts.
V730 is the best lapping tire, dollar for dollar, and smiles per miles out of any tire on the market. It is also my personal opinion that it is the most enjoyable and rewarding tire I've ever driven. It's so easy to find tenths due to its consistency. Any improvement in lap time, came from the driver, and the data will prove it.
I actually PBed at a track I regulay frequent on the 6th day with V730. That is shocking! I am certain that the Khumo is faster on the second day and stays pretty consistent for the next 3 or 4 days before it loses a little bit of pace. By day 7 it's down nearly a second.
The Maxxis RC1 V2 is actually very similar to the V730. RC1 stays quick for about 3 days before it starts to lose pace and by day 5 you simply just trying to kill it to justify buying new tires. It's neither worn nor slow... Just not good anymore 😂.
I did like A052. I thought they produced superhuman levels of confidence and grip. When it was gone, like you said it was still fun. It loved to slide and was easily the most controllable outta control tire I've ever driven. It almost begged to be thrown into a corner way way to fast 😆 by the 3rd day though your questioning this investment strategy! It's not worth it.
Personally I do not like the RE71RS at all. It is so unpredictable after the second lap. It produces more fast laps than A052 did, but you have to learn how to drive around the tires inconsistencies. I do feel like maybe they have gotten better with wear. So maybe tread squirm is to blame.
They are worth a try. I seem to be the ONLY person that doesn't like them. Everyone else LOVES them and won't dare utter a disgraceful word otherwise. Since "know" about the V730, I bet you'll have the same experience though.
I'd like to try the CRS too, but with the price jump I think I'll pass..
The next tire for sure I'm testing is the Nexen Nfera Sport R. I've heard from trusted sources that it is very similar to the V730, but just a little bit better in every way. At least that is the feedback from the 3000lb+ guys who struggled with keeping V730 in the window. GLTC races have for the most part all switched over to it. It's also impossible to find right now. Out of stock everywhere. Which means I'm expecting the price to go up from $800 to $1000

How did you find the AR1's compared to the V730's ? I have been on AR1's for the last 4 years but have got a set of V730's Will the V730's be about 1 sec. slower or more ?? I can get the V730's for $195 the AR1's for $350 so value for money V730's win.

Nice parachute bumper. You didn't cut near enough off. Probably losing 20mph and 150lbs of downforce from that sail.

Annecdotal as I haven't driven on V730 and I'm a mid to back of the pack driver, but I find RE71RS very predictable and easy to drive. Though I might be biased as I got started driving my S2000 competitively back when the OG RE71R was the dominant super 200. Maybe that just set my preferences. IMO the RE71RS are definitely more progressive than the OG RE71R and easier to read. Whether it's more progressive than other tires I can't personally say. I do prefer them over RT660 and RS4 as I felt like I was constantly over driving those tires when I began feeling the slip angle.

All of this is completely subjective and opinionated, but it's good to share our experiences. RE71RS in my opinion is more of the same.. as in it is an update and an improvement over the old RE71R, but it still shares the same lineage. It's a 1, maybe 2 lap miracle tire and outside of that window it's garbage 😂
I do think that they get better after the first day though. That is a new trend in high performance tires. V730 is the same. Perhaps the real secret to speed with these tires is to shave them....

@@roboks2k Definitely a hot lap tire. Even my slow ass feels them greasing up by lap 4. I feel like optimal window for times are lap 2-3. That said my lap times tend to still be best by the end of the session as I tend to gradually inch up my speed. Not good enough to just instantly send a flyer lap. Im interested to try CRS next for track. Im still partially married to the RE71RS as it sort of has dethroned the A052 as the go to auto X tire since it’s operating window is still slightly more forgiving.

@@shift9303 I'm the same. I build to speed at my own pace. Sometimes I can get there quickly, sometimes it doesn't happen at all. That usually means something is wrong, and intuition keeps it within the limit.
Personally I feel like this is the right approach. Not all, but a lot of these guys that try to send it on the first lap of the first session are the same ones that go off, and drag dirt all over the circuit. This is totally the wrong mentality to have. They are trying to set a "qualifying" perfect lap with no practice. Professional racers get 3 practice sessions, before qualifying. Building to speed is the right way 👍
If you pay attention to the guys that do it successfully, they usually were there the day before testing. Think about it.....

Surprised to hear that your impressions were that the RE71RS required excessive steering input and the breakaway characteristics were sudden and unpredictable. I haven't tried the V730, but coming from the A052, I thought the RE71RS were very predictable. Maybe it was more due to softening the suspension. What tire size are you running on what size rim? I'm running the 255/40/17s on 10" wide wheels.

I have another video where the conditions are very similar on my channel. It's all subjective, but both times my opinions has been confirmed through data and video.
Personally I really liked A052 and think that it is the faster tire still. I found A052 to be way more consistent and the drivability gave me superhuman abilities. Both front and rear axles would maintain similar levels of grip, and the grip was linear. The 71rs becomes unpredictable, meaning front and rear axles lose and gain grip at strange intervals. It was also much more difficult to drive because of this, and less rewarding in my opinion.
I won't buy them again simply cause of the drivability. I like a tire that is consistent. Personally I prefer tires that like a very little slip angle. I can manage them well on the limit.
For the most part, I think V730 is misunderstood. People drive it like a 71rs, thinking the first few laps will be the fastest. Typically any cool down hurts performance too. If you get pressurs right, the fastest laps are towards the end of the session.
The point of the video is really about how lower spring rates can improve stability and with it comes confidence. RE71RS was more difficult to drive and only marginally added to the overall lap time. Maybe -0.5 seconds at best. Before the spring change I saw -0.3 seconds at SOW.

@@roboks2k off topic but did you do the side by side video in racerender at the same time or do 2 separate racerenders of the laps and combine them in racerender? I'm a RR newbie

@@jongwoo I don't use race render. I just took my 2 videos that were already processed with the data overlay and dumped them into the video editor and scaled down the windows to fit on one screen. With the data overlay it is pretty easy to get them matched up over start / finish.

do you think the gap would close with v730s and softer springs?

    • @roboks2k
      @roboks2k  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@JFlogerzi YES. My data shows that RE71RS is approximately a half of a second faster. The V730 was actually ahead through the first third of the lap, only because it was more consistent. If you watch the video again, you will see me fight the 71rs. It understeer, into the corners and had one large oversteer moment. More grip, but less consistency and drivability. The spring change helped with stability through the fast sections. You can see on the data log at the end of the video that I was able to increase min speed through the bus stop and Phil Hill. Both corners are not high lateral loading corners. Aero and tires are not nearly as important as compliance and suspension tuning. The car literally jumps the curb and becomes very light, before crashing down. You have to have plenty of stock and compliance to keep a good contact patch. The softer rates improved stability and gave me confidence to raise min entry speed. That alone was worth -1.1 seconds.
For me in this current setup..
      V730 will absolutely do a 1:55.
RE71RS is easily capable of 1:54.
