Fun Fact: The inspiration of this song comes from Genesis Chapter 4 Cain & Abel and however I have huntch that the band has got their name from the same chapter where it says "Cain shall be Avenged Sevenfold, then Lamech Seventy-Sevenfold."
That's indeed where they got it. And the most interesting part? This song and the band's name aren't the only biblical allusions made in their discography. Their first album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, alludes to the seventh and final trumpet that heralds the apocalypse in the book of Revelation. Their album after this, City of Evil... The title alone is a reference to the description of the city of Babylon. The horseman portrayed on the album cover, I believe is meant to be the fourth and final Horseman of the Apocalypse, Death. Beast and the Harlot references the story of the woman on the beast in the book of Revelation.

there all lots of people saying what their top 3 sings from this album were but can we agree that every song from this album is just as good and amazing?
To those who don't know, this song is about Cain and Abel of the Bible. The title "Chapter 4" refers to the 4th chapter of Genesis, which is about Cain and Abel, the sons of Adam & Eve. A story about jealousy and killing your own brother, "falling from grace, unholy night" then being banished by the "One" (God) to walk the Earth. "Where has he gone? What have you done? A voice from high above this Earth commands. From the soil his blood cries out to me." Genesis 4:9 "And the Lord said unto Cain, where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground." "Punishment too great to bear..." Genesis 4:13 "And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear." In fact, Avenged Sevenfold's name came from this very story. Genesis 4:16 "And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." I'm not even a Christian, I just think it's cool that this song is so deep and is derived from one of the oldest stories in the Bible.
Genesis 4:15 "But the Lord said to him, “Not so; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him."
I read the story of Cain and Abel many times but I've never ever heard it told in this way before. Honestly, this is the only way to actually explain this story.
A lot of people have problems understanding the literature poetry of the bible. The history of Cain and Abel is a tragic event. The first son, the first being to be born, jealous of his little brother and let his anger, resentment and jealousy turn him into a monster. It didn't help that sin was in the world because of his parents and the fall of mankind but instead of trying to do the right thing and bringing the proper offering of the best of his crops, Cain chose the wrong path and in so doing brought about a sequence of events that still reverberates to this day.
This song is such a masterpiece! One of the best metal songs ever made hands dows! brilliant lyrics, filled with feeling and an amazing use of many vocal techniques! Goosebumps and nostalgia guaranteed!
I remember covering this song with a friend of mine back in middle school after school, we'd go to his house and jam in his garage. Funny thing now he works for Warner.

It's from the Bible. They got their name from the Bible. Chapter four of Genesis. The first murder in human history. Cain killed his brother Able for having a better offering to God. Conceived and born was one of light (give me your hand)
Blood is spilled and man will follow
Rain and dark, the other born black night (infernal man)
Punishment too great to bear
Raise your head and taste the courage (the one of the light)
Fall from grace, unholy night
I've come here to kill you, won't leave until you've died
Murder born of vengeance, I closed my brother's eyes tonight
Conceived and born was one of light (give me your hand)
Blood is spilled and man will follow
Rain and dark, the other born black night (infernal man)
Punishment too great to bear
Raise your head and taste the courage (the one of the light)
Fall from grace, unholy night
I've come here to kill you, won't leave until you've died
Murder born of vengeance, I closed my brother's eyes tonight
It's cold tonight as the clouds turn grey
And from my hands to my brother's grave
You took his side, you took his gift
Feel the power of a fallen man
Crestfallen man
Far away in this land I must go
Out of the site of the One
A punishment sent from his hand
A hardship that no one should know
Now go out of the site of the One
Away in this land you must go
Where has he gone? What have you done?
A voice commands from high above this earth
From the soil his blood cries out to me
