Oh yea, so many drug infused, self reflective, depressed and lonely yet had people to appreciate and have an awesome time listening to music like this with, super nostalgic memories
Fun Fact: The inspiration of this song comes from Genesis Chapter 4 Cain & Abel and however I have huntch that the band has got their name from the same chapter where it says "Cain shall be Avenged Sevenfold, then Lamech Seventy-Sevenfold."
That's indeed where they got it. And the most interesting part? This song and the band's name aren't the only biblical allusions made in their discography. Their first album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, alludes to the seventh and final trumpet that heralds the apocalypse in the book of Revelation. Their album after this, City of Evil... The title alone is a reference to the description of the city of Babylon. The horseman portrayed on the album cover, I believe is meant to be the fourth and final Horseman of the Apocalypse, Death. Beast and the Harlot references the story of the woman on the beast in the book of Revelation.
Rev was integral to the music and theme of Avenged Sevenfold. After his death... I kinda feel the writing and music has taken a hit in terms of novelty and stuff, but still nobody can deny A7X is one of the best bands out there.

The song Chapter Four was based on a story written on the Bible. The story of Cain killing his brother, Abel which we can read in the old testament in the book of Genesis - Chapter 4.
To those who don't know, this song is about Cain and Abel of the Bible. The title "Chapter 4" refers to the 4th chapter of Genesis, which is about Cain and Abel, the sons of Adam & Eve. A story about jealousy and killing your own brother, "falling from grace, unholy night" then being banished by the "One" (God) to walk the Earth. "Where has he gone? What have you done? A voice from high above this Earth commands. From the soil his blood cries out to me." Genesis 4:9 "And the Lord said unto Cain, where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground." "Punishment too great to bear..." Genesis 4:13 "And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear." In fact, Avenged Sevenfold's name came from this very story. Genesis 4:16 "And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." I'm not even a Christian, I just think it's cool that this song is so deep and is derived from one of the oldest stories in the Bible.
Genesis 4:15 "But the Lord said to him, “Not so; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him."
Still listening to this song eventho almost 10 years they had been release and still evergreen to all metal-ians like me plus the drums really awesome. Really like the drum tempo
I wish they had continued to develop their early sound instead of going the direction they did, but it doesn’t take anything away from how brilliant they were back in the day.
+HockeyFan1990 Same here man. Since then, they've slowly become my favorite band. Especially after hearing in full Waking the Fallen, and then City of Evil. Such a talented and amazing band.
this song slaps even harder when youre angrily speeding down the road, primed to absolutely floor that one guy who didnt salute or nod his head after you stopped to let him cross
This song always reminds me to be a good person towards others as much as I can because this song narrates the story of cain and abel and the punishment that was given to cain that should be a lesson to be reminded to everyone.
This was unknowingly my first taste of Avenged Sevenfold cause it was on part of the NHL 2004 soundtrack only for certain games. But wow that start is awesome and at 0:30 it kicks into the first of a few amazing guitar solos! the middle or climax Guitar Solo is Outstanding!
Just got Life Is But A Dream, and had to hear the album that made me love them to justify it. Since The Rev passed they haven't been the same... I still love them, though...
It's from the Bible. They got their name from the Bible. Chapter four of Genesis. The first murder in human history. Cain killed his brother Able for having a better offering to God. He was jealous and committed the first murder. God marked him and sent him to the wilderness. The blood of Able cried out to God from the ground for justice. This song is very deep.
The visions of the songs I screamed out to in my youth have eerily all come to pass, like prophetic visions, a premonition in sound. The songs I've sung yesterday are still to come..
"Oooh, I'm a true metalhead, I listen to Cannibal Corpse and Celtic Frost, and my favorite album is "Rust in Peace" from Megadeth. This Avenged Sevenfold thing is shit because I say so." Seriously, what wrong with this people? I used to hate on this band, just for fun (to annoy my friends, actually) then just a little time ago I listen to some of their songs, and they are in fact pretty catchy. I can't understand what problem people have with this band. It seems that you have to dislike this music to be a true metalhead, but in my opinion, whatever who truly hates on any band is not a metalhead. Just hear what you like and that's all, it's all music, this isn't some Justin Bieber Autotuned shit or canned musicians from Disney. Even if you dislike it, this is metal.
To each their own I guess. I'd call myself a "true metal" guy because I like a lot of diverse metal bands. I love some of Avengeds older stuff like this song, I like all the classic metal bands like Maiden, Priest, and Sabbath. I like some Slayer, some Cannibal Corpse, etc. Christ I like a lot of stuff. I just don't see how or why anyone would limit themselves to one flavor of one genre of music.
When the new album drops. There will never be another band like avenged sevenfold ever again. Thier as metal as they are prophetic. Love They reference the bible. Thier very name is even biblical. Caine and Abel 🤘🕊🤘🕊🤘
Slowly becoming my favorite A7X song. The lyrics are amazing, as is the vocal stacking on the track. Plus, it's why the band has the name they do. The Rev's writing at it's best, and the band at one of their most musically in sync. And that bridge guitar riff is amazing at 4:22, could have been a song of its own, it's so good.
Dear Jimmy, it's been 8 years since your death and we are still listening to your amazing music. Your brothers of Avenged are doing great at their music without you, although there will always be a missing member of A7X and a missing spot in our hearts. Your music carries on and will foREVer. So in your music you will live on! Deathbat foREVer 🤘
If you can smoke a lot of weed and listen to I won't see you tonight prt 1&2 back to back to just about as loud and you can stand and you'll see why this is one of the best albums anyone released as first album. These guys where just outa high school when this album came out I don't know about y'all but I couldn't possibly come up with this magic when I was 18 19
I think this was the first rock/metal song I ever heard.. I was around 12 years old and I was listening to a pop music compilation and somehow this got put in there and I was like "YAAAAAAA BEST POP SONG EVEEEEEEEER." I had long forgotten about this song and now 5 years later I just realized that one of my favorite bands sang it...
CodeXIX This is pop. It's good and all, but it's pop regardless. Metalcore has become pop music, especially with this upcoming generation. Not only is it pop in a social aspect, it's pop musically. The way it's written. The chords used. Melodies.
CodeXIX Musically, the melodies and chord progressions they use are almost exactly the same ones that Katy Perry and Taylor Swift uses. And furthermore, pop doesn't just mean Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. It's the most popular/well-recognized music. Metalcore is a well recognized genre in this day, if you can't tell by the fact that Warped Tour has transformed to a Metalcore festival from its Punk roots.
Glad to see people appreciating this song so many years later. Memories amiright?

ikr
And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground."
"Punishment too great to bear..." Genesis 4:13 "And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear."
In fact, Avenged Sevenfold's name came from this very story. Genesis 4:16 "And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold."
I'm not even a Christian, I just think it's cool that this song is so deep and is derived from one of the oldest stories in the Bible.
Genesis 4:15
"But the Lord said to him, “Not so; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him."
Waking the Fallen is GOAT, not a skippable song on the whole album
1:19 (THE ONE OF THE LIGHT!) I love Syn and Zacky sing together \m/
Thanks to that school friend that showed me Avenged Sevenfold for the very first time, you gave me life that day.
i was 13 when this song came out im now 33... wtf man. what a classic!
This song still bangs
Still listening to this song eventho almost 10 years they had been release and still evergreen to all metal-ians like me plus the drums really awesome. Really like the drum tempo
One born of light. One born of dark night. The sun and moon.
This solo makes me crazy
Time to headsbang🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Been a big fan of these guys since i was 14. 20 years later this album is still their best
Been a fan since I was 3. 7 years later, nothing changed
This song is flawless... foREVer!!!!
can respect that
I wish they had continued to develop their early sound instead of going the direction they did, but it doesn’t take anything away from how brilliant they were back in the day.
This was the first song I ever heard from A7X thanks to Madden '04. Been a fan ever since
Nah man. NASCAR '04.
+HockeyFan1990 Same here man. Since then, they've slowly become my favorite band. Especially after hearing in full Waking the Fallen, and then City of Evil. Such a talented and amazing band.
NHL 04
+Bout toLet Out a Bomb Ass Sneeze Bhd on this vid? BADASS
same here, Madden 04 was my a7x intro :)
this song slaps even harder when youre angrily speeding down the road, primed to absolutely floor that one guy who didnt salute or nod his head after you stopped to let him cross
this is oddly specific..
im the guy who didn't salute/nod
What have you done....you killed us all.....
This song always reminds me to be a good person towards others as much as I can because this song narrates the story of cain and abel and the punishment that was given to cain that should be a lesson to be reminded to everyone.
Ive been searching for this song for almost 20 years now.
Best written Avenged song. PERIOD.
Slit Bodmod chapter four is amazing but I think blinded in chains , burn it down and trashed and scattered are a bit better
Just got Life Is But A Dream, and had to hear the album that made me love them to justify it. Since The Rev passed they haven't been the same... I still love them, though...
This song is amazing I don't know how it's not more popular
Blame the pop shite
It's from the Bible. They got their name from the Bible. Chapter four of Genesis. The first murder in human history. Cain killed his brother Able for having a better offering to God. He was jealous and committed the first murder. God marked him and sent him to the wilderness. The blood of Able cried out to God from the ground for justice. This song is very deep.
My favourite album from a7x is hail to the king with no doubt!!! All those guitar solos and lyrics... great!!
I came from blinded in chains, I clicked this accidently in the recommendations.
Never felt so lucky before!!!!!!!!!!
i lvoe blinded in chains and this song there both amazing!
You're welcome!
@@Bloorgusgoorge Thanks!
bloorgusgoorge just a random unneeded fact, they’re both the 3rd track on their albums.
Help with what?
The visions of the songs I screamed out to in my youth have eerily all come to pass, like prophetic visions, a premonition in sound. The songs I've sung yesterday are still to come..
i want to cry . this song is beautiful :')
chill out bro.
I feel u
u r mom is beautiful too
Have you heard So Far Away? Dear God? Crimson Day? Warmness On The Soul? Fiction? I Won't See You Tonight Part 1?
I won't see you tonight part 1 is even better
"Oooh, I'm a true metalhead, I listen to Cannibal Corpse and Celtic Frost, and my favorite album is "Rust in Peace" from Megadeth. This Avenged Sevenfold thing is shit because I say so."
Seriously, what wrong with this people?
I just don't see how or why anyone would limit themselves to one flavor of one genre of music.
argentinianseba why u putting them agenst metal core its hard rock dumb ass
Then go and listen your black metal shit what are you doing here?
Miguel Ruiz I think you are in the wrong comment, or you are just really stupid.
But you have to admit, Rust in Peace was a pretty bomb album.
Waking the fallen album was the best for me
Me too
BRUH THIS SONG IS MAJESTIC
When the new album drops. There will never be another band like avenged sevenfold ever again. Thier as metal as they are prophetic. Love They reference the bible. Thier very name is even biblical. Caine and Abel 🤘🕊🤘🕊🤘
Slowly becoming my favorite A7X song. The lyrics are amazing, as is the vocal stacking on the track. Plus, it's why the band has the name they do. The Rev's writing at it's best, and the band at one of their most musically in sync. And that bridge guitar riff is amazing at 4:22, could have been a song of its own, it's so good.
Wow this reminds me of high school .. I can't believe I still remember most of the words
Their best song all time?!
No one gonna talk about how there's a metal song about Cain and Abel...
EasilyAmused Take me your metal heart
15 years…
If you can smoke a lot of weed and listen to I won't see you tonight prt 1&2 back to back to just about as loud and you can stand and you'll see why this is one of the best albums anyone released as first album. These guys where just outa high school when this album came out I don't know about y'all but I couldn't possibly come up with this magic when I was 18 19
Jake Berry Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
Jake Berry this is their second album.
They were in their 20s when this was released
Jake Berry you know this is their second album right?
Yeah your facts are just very wrong friend.
Such a great song. The vocals are fantastic
I came out listening to rock and metal.
All hail Tony Hawk's, Dynasty Warriors and Need for Speed ;)
CodeXIX This is pop. It's good and all, but it's pop regardless. Metalcore has become pop music, especially with this upcoming generation. Not only is it pop in a social aspect, it's pop musically. The way it's written. The chords used. Melodies.
I'm pretty sure this sounds nothing like Katy Perry or Taylor Swift...
Please pop was Britney Spears,Beyonce and alot of rap now it's even worse with Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and rap that has 0 zero lyrical meaning now
