  • It's a Jeep World - Replacing the Idler Pulley, Tensioner Pulley and Serpentine Belt on a 2007-2011 Jeep JK or JKU
    Recently - 7/23/2020 - It was brought to my attention (by Brankz) that in the video the belt may have been routed around the components incorrectly. I want to state for the record, the routing in this video is one way to route your belt on a 2007-2011 with AC. The belt on this Jeep has always been routed in this way, there are diagrams out there that show the belt in a different configuration both ways work, remember because it is different doesn't make it wrong. If it works, it is not wrong, it is just a different method.
    Tools
    3/8" Ratchet or breaker bar

    Great video, I was able to change the belt both pulleys and the alternator in less than 30 minutes!!!! I am proud of myself. Thanks!!!!

    Great video, I had to replace my idler pulley after it left me stranded in the middle of nowhere. Luckily I was able to get a ride to Autozone and back to my Jeep. Turns out that the rubber part inside of it was all worn out and it wobbled enough to let my serpentine belt slip out of place. Now I keep a pulley and belt in my toolbox at all times.

    Thanks for this video! I'm embarrassed to say but my JK has been squealing for almost a year and I always assumed it was my alternator pulley. My alternator craped out on me so I changed it over the weekend & was distraught afterwards because the JK was still making the noise after I installed it. After watching your video, I changed the idler pulley in a few mins and that fixed my issue! Thanks man!

    Thought top belt suppose to go under the idler pulley then to alternator??? Seems like water pump pulley has less grab with belt going over idler pulley.

    Underrated video , great explanation , I weeded through 20 to find this. Question though is there a way to loosen or tighten the belt not fully releasing or it it just a set tension

    • @ItsaJeepWorld
      @ItsaJeepWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s set tension via an internal spring in the tensioner mechanism

    I believe it is the same pulley/same price (idler and tensioner) on JK.

    • @ItsaJeepWorld
      @ItsaJeepWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BVan I believe they may be the same pulley if you just need to replace the pulley and not the whole tensioner

      @@ItsaJeepWorld Yes I just finished it, I got the idler pulley at at Autozone 17.99 and there is a note that says "tensioner pulley" when you look for idler pulley on their site. Duralast Idler Pulley 231144 it says. The pully is working in the tensioner ass. and there is no longer the "chirp" that was driving me crazy! Thanks for video.

    Interesting, that’s not how my 07 Rubi serpentine belt is routed. You have it going from the water pump to the idler. But mine goes from the the water pump to the AC comp.

      I’ll caveat my first comment with, ‘if it works it’s not wrong’ I’ve run it like that for four (4) years and no issues. Your belt under the idler pulley is a manufacturers suggested routing of the belt. 😎

      It’s a Jeep World yeah man not trying to be a fuck or nothing but putting it on top will make the pump run with less RPMs making the pump pump less fluid wheel will feel a bit more heavy and you make the box and make make extra work

    • @ItsaJeepWorld
      @ItsaJeepWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BRANKZ i just checked the video, my Jeep (which I just finished a 3 day WindRock Trip) and a diagram from my website. You are correct that the diagram shows what you are talking about. I find it interesting that my belt has ‘always’ been routed the way I have it with no issues. I’ll make a note in the description to acknowledge the two different ways to route the belt. Thanks again for pointing this out, we are always learning.
