One suggested edit would be if this is an older or newer style serpentine tensioner, note it in the descriotion. Basically after 2002 I believe, it's a different way. For anyone dropping in.
Thanks for the tutorial. This made it so I could do it before my hubby got home. :D Was having trouble figuring out how to do the tensioner. This helped!
this helped alot. Im sort of poor too ,-) single dad w three kids , so every bit helps.. Im not mechanically inclined so this def was informative an saved me money. thank you
I own a 1999 tj wrangler drivers side idler arm has an adjustment screw systm to loosen and tighten belt for removal under the power steering unit I have never seen this before you need to look for it there is no video I know of for this
Hey, nice video. Have one concern. You were wrenching the bolt clockwise which is how you would tighten a bolt. By tightening the bolt you are loosening the tension on the belt. You did this while instructing on tightening the belt. Great video though. It helped me prepare for my idler pulley replacement tonight.
Do you have a napa near by? I'd honestly run on over and get one from there. They have great belts and can get the right size. The size will depend on whether or not you have certain accessories like air conditioning power steering ECT......
Well mine is a 4.0 but its all pretty basic if you did the belt you can certainly do these. i did them with my buddy on his jeep but didnt take a vid. If you want me to make a vid i could throw a short one together. just say so. as far as the spark plugs go i always get the platinum. i spent days looking at reviews and thre really fancy plugs tend to not be worth the extra money. you will need to get a spark plug socket and a long extension for your socket kit. by long i mean an 8 inch extendor.
In my 99 TJ I've been having some squeaking issues, it happens at start up and at idle only until I drive it for a while. I don't know if its the idler pully of not but, my question is, did your squeak continue after you tightened the belt?
I've had my rig fire years so at least that. It isn't showing any signs of distress or ware though, still might be a good idea to replace. Great video by the way I usually loosen it at the power steering pump and loosen the idler pully instead
Hey thanks man, i was looking all over for the belt tension pulley. Never seen one where u gotta loosen a screw in the back lol. Helped me out alot!
First person that has given a nice close up/detailed view of what and where each bolt is. Thanks for the help brother!

Thanks for posting, your video really helped. Also, let me see that the PO had routed the belt incorrectly.

Thanks a lot you rock!!!
Ps....do you have any or know of any videos showing a distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, and plug change on a TJ 2.4L such as yours?
So basically to tighten it just tighten the bolt?

Yes I do have an AC pump in my engine compartment.
Can you tell me the size belt to buy because Autozone keeps selling me the wrong items for my Jeep so it’s been down for a minute.

I would be willing to bet if you tighten or replace the belt all together your problem will go away. How old is your belt?
I've had my rig fire years so at least that. It isn't showing any signs of distress or ware though, still might be a good idea to replace. Great video by the way I usually loosen it at the power steering pump and loosen the idler pully instead
Do you have an air conditioning in this??
whats that bumper ad on you got?
What size tires and lift is this?
how changing a serpentine belt tensor in jeep wrangler
Your next video should be.... how to change a strut.
0_0 That is a really dirty engine... No wonder you have belt issues. I always pressure wash the engine when I'm done mudding.
Your video was not changing a belt it was just tightened the belt was a wast of time. You need to change the name
Wow! Your engine needs a cleaning
Your title says change not adjust. Change your title
Ratchet*
You didn’t change the freaking belt
WD-40 is not a penetrating oil it is a water dispersant hence the WD
Cool thanks
