    I've had the large Kitchen Safe for 7 years, and love it. I actually bought the smaller one later - the large one is for biscuits or cakes, and the smaller one for nuts, crisps and similar.
    My problem: I can have a sealed packet of biscuits in the cupboard and not be bothered. But once I open them, I will go through the whole packet.
    I first got around it by not buying biscuits, chocolate and snacks, but that is miserable, especially when friends visit.
    The really interesting revelation was when I discovered that I didn't have to set it to 5 or 12 hours, or a day, for it to be effective. If I just set it to one or two hours, when it unlocked, I could know that biscuits were there, but they wouldn't bother me. I realised that it was the first biscuit I ate that caused me to want the second, and so on, bingeing through the pack. If I took one, locked the safe, and then ate it, I could enjoy that biscuit, and by the time the safe opened again, the urge to binge had gone.
    I then found I could use this practically - having a cuppa and a biscuit/cake break, then *immediately* going out into the garden to do a job or something similar. By the time I came in, I no longer wanted another biscuit.
    A wonderful gadget for anyone with this problem.

    • @lunarazure9969
      @lunarazure9969 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      There's definitely something about how accessible a food is that makes it so much easier to binge eat. I like to have some ice cream for dessert. Come evening I'll grab a bowl, scoop some out and put the ice cream back in the fridge, and that's enough for me. But a few weeks ago I bought a box of ice cream sandwiches because they were on sale and suddenly it was mid-day and I'd find myself grabbing one to snack on in addition to my evening dessert. Suffice to say, the box didn't last long.
      There's just something about an open package of snacks that makes it so easy to grab some whenever you feel like it. I can absolutely see this sort of lock box gadget helping people deal with that snacking urge.

    I knew what that first one was right away, I recognized it because I saw it a few months ago! I was at the local deli in my little town on the west coast of Canada, where I like to get their recommendations of what cheeses to try. They were trying to describe this gadget, when another customer heard them, got very excited, ran out to his car where he for some reason had this cheese and this gadget (I guess he carries it around with him wherever he goes?) and he brought it in and made some cheese curls for us all to try right there! The BOSKA Cheese Curler Amigo can also be used for curling cold butter, though I use a special curved knife (bigoudi à beurre) for doing it presentation wise. But then I'm not doing huge amounts at a time.
    The Duramitt can also be used for for prepping large amounts of veg with papery skins like new potatoes, carrots...etc.
    Salter should know better. I'm with Kush on glass chopping boards, knife killers. I have some very nice knives & enjoy sharpening them well. Would never go near these scales with them. A relative gave me a glass chopping board when they first came out. I was going to toss it, but I have found a use for it. As its so shiny, anything that needs suction to stay in place, like some graters, blenders or mandolins are rock solid on it. So if the person that gifted it ever visits I still have the gift. I don't even like plastic chopping boards. As they age & get used bacteria can build up in the micro knife groves & they can be hard to clean. Certain wooden boards actually kill bacteria naturally, but it's still a good idea to clean them properly. As well as washing I regularly scrub them with course salt & lemon juice & go over with a scraper regularly.

    The Kitchen Safe could be a good aid in giving an older child some independence in a task like taking medicine daily. It would allow for it to be kept in a more accessible location, but still be (reasonably) safe outside of a specific period. When they first showed it I thought it was a silly product, but as a tool beyond the kitchen, it actually has some useful applications.

    • @hannahk1306
      @hannahk1306 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think for that purpose you could create a much better product: a series of small compartments for each dose of medication; an independent timer on each compartment that you can set to a specific time (i.e. 6pm, rather than 10 hours from now); some sort of alarm or notification, maybe paired with a smartphone or tablet.

    some alternate uses for a couple gadgets: The Timer tub could be used for like marinades as you can put how long on the tub rather than having to remember or set an alarm on your phone. The scales would be useful for anyone weighing a large amount for instance any kind of batch cooking, home cooking/baking business etc that requires hefty weights which a smaller one cant handle easily, totally agree its a useless chopping board but its a great scale for specific circumstances like barry shows with the cast iron pan.

      Though to stop mindless snacking on high-sugar treats, it’s enough for that. Just makes the process of an adult grabbing “just one more” snack inconvenient enough that they won’t automatically do it. So a weight control measure for 80% of the population.

      @@Tang-qi6zw Someone who can't control themselves when it comes to snacking on crap will not be deterred by this invention, nor will children who don't know any better. People must learn self control, not buy useless gadgets. Don't buy the cookies to put in it, problem solved and money not spent.

    • @Tang-qi6zw

      @@d.d.mac.3773IF that alone worked, 80% of the country wouldn't be obese. Willpower is so temporary. Instead, harvest it for inconvenience. Because inconvenience is the only way to change habits. Notice how sometimes you drive the usual route, which is the wrong way because you were going somewhere else? If you don't track your food, how much can you remember what you eat? You don't even look at your hands or keyboard when typing. Most of what people do is automatic. Based entirely on patterns and convenience. So even if you buy the stupid cookies out of habit, the case CAN help change the habit because you can adjust when actively thinking.

      @@Tang-qi6zw Well, it seems timed cookie dispensers are obviously not working either, are they? Either obese people don't have the willpower to use them or even buy them. You can also get into the habit of eating certain amounts and at certain times, but I don't see them doing that either. A cookie dispenser will not solve the obesity problem. They are a waste of money. Don't buy your kid or yourself cookies, and then you don't have to track how many you've eaten, problem solved .
