Man, it's so sad to see even skyliner get burnt out.
I know. I thought I was NEVER gonna unlock Wreck-It Ralph, and had to buy more tokens and be a slave to the F2P Model more. It got ME burned out for a bit that I switched to Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. At least in that one, you got Ralph right from the get-go, as part of the starting roster. Plus, you got SEGA Characters like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Metal Sonic, Dr. Eggman, NiGHTS, Reala, Beat, Aiai, MeeMee, Vyse, Gilius Thunderhead, and even Alex Kidd!
Fortunately, I bought that one years ago, as part of a Humble Bundle thing with a lot of Sonic games.
Honest question: how many more seasons or months do you think will it be before I've exhausted most of the free progression and begin to feel burnout? I've been playing for three seasons
Imagine how many more people would play if it wasn't so predatory.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is what Disney Speedstorm should be if they never go to the F2P route.
Exactly what I've been thinking lately, heck Speedstorm is basically CTR but with Disney and Pixar characters
CTR Nitro Fueled featured an inconvenient interface that complicated achieving a drift boost, making it a challenging kart game with "mixed" reviews.

People who play speedstorm love to complain about this free game more than they enjoy the game itself.
yes 100% i mean the game felt perfect for a party racer now fortnite the only one left because again most people have gtx 1060s or below not 3060 and above we arnt man children who invest in trash like 2 refrigerators worth of power better to buy a console but then its going to need 3 refrigerators in power next gen 900w
F2P wouldn't be so bad if Gameloft did the following:
1) Offer the premium currency, Tokens as rewards in-game. Via the Golden Pass, Leaderboard Events, and Season Tour.
2) Listen and care about the players and the player base.
3) Add more new modes, have variety of different racetracks (not set in the same location).
4) Add more costumes and Karts.
5) Add new skills.
6) Buff rewards of Regulated and Ranked Multiplayers.
Right now, unless something dramatic happens; this game will continue to get worse, and more players will be driven to drop this game.

I think your idea of Disney’s SpeedStorm is also kind of my idea. I do kinda wished that the game went the DreamLight Valley route.
Saving ALL my coins to try and get sergeant to 5☆ but she has no voice 😭😭😭 praying i get her to at least 4☆
Another idea: don't require specific racers in the story chapters. Just require certain levels. That way as long as you have one character that is relatively high level you can get through any story chapter. Boom shakalaka. Easy fix.
I mean, it's a better way to play the game without grinding or missing out on characters

I wouldn't mind some grinding as long as all the characters were in the universal boxes all the time. And annual DLC. They could also sell a Fast Unlock pass. And paid cosmetics.
I only grind the ranked Multiplayer up to platinum for new characters. That was how i got my golden passes and Golden pass tokens. Now that Im a fan of the game i might be enticed to pay 5 bucks or so a month for a while longer. I happily paid the 60 bucks for dreamlight valley
The problem is, in Mario Kart anyone can win rather it's your speedster in Mario to your big bulky toons like DK and Bowser, but, in Speedstorm if you don't have a high top speed Stat, you don't stand a chance

I think that you should be able to play any racer in local free play and private track whether you have them unlocked or not.
It used to be like that. 2 or 3 seasons ago.
It isn't just mid season racers that are an ever growing problem for newcomers. The Universal Box is the main source of shards to unlock the racers, and every season another 4-5 racers and 9-12 crew get added.
I've decided that the only thing that would compel me to break my heartfelt vow of free-to-play is Figment shards; I would pay cash for them.
@wonderrob3225 He's why I even started playing the game too, and honestly it's just a disappointment. He's bad in the first place and then you just don't have any crew to boost him, and he's never needed for events or anything so I basically only use him when doing the weekly regulated online.

@wonderrob3225 It puts everyone on an equal level 30 playing field, so it's entirely skill (and character quality...) based, which is kinda more fun than ranked where you never know how bad the matchmaking will be. There are also 4 bonus characters that eveyone can use for free every week, so Figment can show up there too. And also weekly you get some rewards for playing, you get points for playing even if you lose and by the end you get a total of 3 shards for a racer and 2 shards for a related crew.

I guess you're a "product" of an age of extrinsic motivators.
The progression would still be there, just intrinsically. Getting better, mastering the game, improving one's times.
That said, I wouldn't mind unlockable racers through challenges.
Plus, the game could sorely use a story mode with an actual narrative. That'd be a nice "unlock", too.
I am always convinced that if this game had followed the same path as DDLV, i.e. remaining a Buy to Play game with expansions, it would perhaps have become a fairer game... and focusing on car skins or driver skins would have been an excellent way to support the game.
I enjoy playing both and have become a fan of 'Gameloft.' I also hope that in the future, they simply request the payment upfront.
Man, if paying for the full game would bring back the quality of this game, I would GLADLY pay it.
After my experience with free to play I would pay for a full priced premium version of the game. The loot boxy thing is tedious.
As someone who has played both Speedstorm and Dreamlight Valley almost nonstop since their first early access weeks, I truly couldn't agree more with what your ideal version of this game would look like.
Why can't I continue claiming the (TOY STORY) camera pass rewards, if it says that the last level can be completed multiple times to get more rewards?

As a new player myself, i can tell you my impressions:
The game is easy and so much fun when you start. There are a lot of things to do at firsts that gives you currency or shards.
But the moment i got to the season tour i noticed something was not quite right. The fact that you need so many racers at high level just to do one or two mission to then switch to another one that needed a high level aswell was the answer to the question "Can i make it to the end?" : Yes "Can i complete it?" : Nope
I liked the fact that (grinding like crazy) i managed to unlock golden pass. I just had to play smart throught opening the right boxes and grinding ranked with every racer i got to get more shards and currency.
But still, they want you to get rid of your wallet as you can soon realize how pricy the shop is.
Ranked system is a total failure to my eyes: the fact that you have to race with a lvl 20 against lvl 30+ is mindblowing. Especially when you reach Platinum and you start losing points even if you manage to get 5th place out of 8, with a lvl 15/19 racer against the whales at 30/40 or even 50! That's crazy and frustrating because no matter how good you are there's no way you can win. So you are stuck at low ranks not because you are bad but because your racers in underleveled! That means you can't climb / get more shard / currencies anymore until you get lucky with some boxes unlocking another racer and you start it all over again.
I'm giving this game a couple more weeks to understand if it is really possible to play as a f2p player or not, but as for now the chances are low.

I'm wondering if more Ralph shards will be available in the second part of Season 7. I have more medals in the season tour to earn and racers to grind levels. Would be nice to know if I don't have to rush to unlock him.
In my opinion, the developers of Speedstorm should take an example from the developers of Dreamlight Valley, i.e. not make it free to play and earn money when players buy the game with money instead of free with absurd Pay to win mechanics

Gameloft is the developer of both games and is exploring two different payment methods. It's likely that their publisher will determine the preferred option. I hope they opt for an upfront payment model like DDL valley rather than the tedious loot boxes.

Bold of you to assume Gameloft wouldn't do the same scams if the game wasn't F2P. The only difference would be that you start off with more characters than just Mickey and whoever you choose at the beginning of the game.

Gameloft is a renowned professional game development studio known for its expertise. Earning revenue is part of their business model. They have extended the lifespan of this game beyond what it originally seemed to merit.
I hope you at least get paid for this.

I WISH there was a bundle! At least let us buy the game if you want the standard full game experience. Like Nickelodeon Kart Racing! Or let us have a season pass for multiple characters like Mario Kart! This is just so disgusting when this game is genuinely good. But something really gross and predatory is happening off screen. Like I just want to play certain characters on multiplayer or in local freeplay.

I come from the Call of Duty franchise, where you have to pay for a new game every year, the new games doesn't change too much and you progression is basically lost.
I like to see Disney Speedstorm like a paid game with an unlimited demo, where you can invite your friends without them needing to purchase the game, but to enjoy the game to its full potential, you have to pay.
I paid for the legendary pack, the one with Stitch, Beast, Woody and a lot of tokens, the price in Mexico was a little bit cheaper than the premium packs of the Call of Duty games, and now I can complete all of the objectives, place in the top percent of the events, and basically enjoy "the full game".
I prefer paying the same amount of money in the same intervals to maintain my progress and keep receiving updates to the game, like new racers, new seasons, events, tournaments, etc., than having to buy a new game every year.
And I forgot to mention that if you want to play COD on other console or PC, you have to buy the game again, with F2P games like Disney Speedstorm, you can download the game for free and share progress with console, PC and phone (in certain countries).
Going from CoD to Speedstorm sounds like going from the 7th circle of hell to the 9th.
You should only have to pay for cosmetics. Imagine if the game were $40 to purchase. I think it would be reasonable to get 100,000 upgrade coins and 10 upgrade shards per day in our daily boxes. I want this because it's too hard currently to unlock racers that are required in the story chapters. In addition it's too hard to upgrade racers that are required to be a certain level in the story chapters. Boom shakalaka. Easy fix.
For me, the game would be best if it was a one off purchase with paid DLC. You’d buy the game initially for ~$60, which would give you the Mickey and friends collection of characters and several universes to visit to unlock others. Each universe would have its own set of races with unlockable characters as boss races. Winning the boss race would unlock the character for you, and doing everything in the universe would get those characters to lv 30. Additional universes could be bought for ~$20, and would come with 4-5 new racers and a new set of tracks to race on. I’d keep the 50 level progression system, but not have it time gated. Rather, progression would be limited by the players willingness to play the game, possibly with microtransactions for those who want to skip the grind. Basically, you’d race in a tournament, and get capsules based on how you did, and the difficulty of the tournament. Ranked and regulated multiplayer could stay the same.

To answer the question: Quite obviously, yes. It would have less players, but I think it would maintain the playerbase much better, eventually growing instead of falling like it's done. And the thing is, even as a F2P, if the game cost like $40 or $60 back in the Aladdin season, I would've bought it. And I'm definitely not the only one. I'm not F2P because I don't have money, I do (I mean, not like Cyrila. I don't have 200k lmao). It's because I don't agree with the way it is monetized. It isn't even worth it, go back to the first line, that's the equivalent of $100 for 6 shards. Like imagine Aladdin had a Goku skin with the cloud as the magic carpet. That'd be so cool man, make it $20, $50... idc I'd pay for that. I know, I know, this ain't Fortnite. They don't have the licenses and it's a Disney game, something like that could ruin the fun or immersion for the big Disney fans. Icl it doesn't make sense to have Goku in there, I just like DBZ and Aladdin's my main lol. But I don't know, a glowing Hercules like when he becomes a god, Jafar as the red/evil genie, the human version of Ursula, at least Stitch with the antennae and the 4 arms... am I really asking for too much?
It is sad the way the game has gone, cause it's genuinely a great game. They made someone like me, who's last racing game was Mario Kart in the DS/Wii back in like 2010 as an 8 year old, and who doesn't care about Disney, to play for hundreds of hours, which is crazy.

The version of the Game you came out with is the Game I wish it was. I can't get any of the characters I want because I can't afford them, I can't race with any with any of my favorite characters because they are too low level and cant afford to upgrade them. I can't star up anyone because I can't afford it. I can't complet the story because i don't have certain characters needed. I love Disney but they are just so money hungry it makes me sad.
The thing about "F2P" games is that they are all the same. They follow up with you playing the game for free which you can do in a "MMORPG" game that is free online and play with others. That is where the free stops at. It's all just a bait and nothing else. That was why they did it as free because they wanted to bait people into the game and have them pay for the characters. Now is it bad to try and get money, no but it is bad when the game is just a speed driving game.
So think of it this way. If a new player joins the game they have to struggle to catch up to other racers. It's not bad but it is bad when the game takes no skill at all once the star system comes into play. Once you gain your skill is when the game becomes imbalanced. So let's take a character with a busted ability like Aladdin. If you get Aladdin to just two stars he can ride on carpet for a long period of time with a speed boost and control. Plus Aladdin is just a rare character. That is just a level 20 Aladdin now but before it was whenever you got his shards to upgrade him. So the levels didn't matter so they made the leveling matter instead now. Yet they also made top speed matter a lot which takes any driving skill out of the game. Now you can just find a character like Hans being a top racer who isn't a speedster at all. Which makes speedster look stupid because they all are slow and also have some of the worst abilities. They won't get any new players because people want story and to have fun but you can do that because you also have to be a veteran at the game. So you are shield off from any new characters unless you pay money. So you get pay wall right out the gate. You can grind until you have enough currency to get a character but from what I was at you will only have Mickey and another character of your choice. If they did anything is make is so new players can get the common characters so they can work on those characters first. This in turn makes it easier for them to grind up the characters level. They also need to separate the paid vs the free. The universal box shouldn't be worth money. I can understand season coins but cash money is a no no because you aren't getting anything worth the cash. If you are using money it should be for greater items. Like money shards, better emotes and different vehicles. First they really need to balance the characters and make it all about the player driving and not the special skill or top speed. To me this is what makes Beach Buggy and Mario Kart superior games. Mario Kart doesn't have special skills anymore and Beach Buggy 2 balanced the special skills because the first Beach Buggy skills weren't balanced at all. Even then it was all about the players driving ability and not the special skill they could use. Disney Speed storm is nice but they failed in the aspect of what makes a racing game. If you brake the game people don't care about the other characters at all and will only use the best characters in the game. It doesn't matter if you have progression on the game eventually the game will get boring because the races aren't as fun because no one will want to try other racers. They will only do other racers because they have to just for the next season and nothing else. If they could I am sure Mickey would still be level 1 for a lot of people.
They aren't all the same, your sample size is just lacking.
Gwent is great F2P, LoR is very good F2P, Dota 2 is great F2P, even LoL is decent F2P. And I'm sure there are more examples of good F2P.

I can imagine a superior class featuring exclusive content and rewards for long-time players with high-level characters.
I still love this game is probably my favorite kart racer game next to mario kart arcade gp dx and sonic sega all stars racing even though it pay to play but i still love it this version of this could have mario kart system and i personally spend my tokens on deluxe cars but i think this game was Good for paid to play and free to play player but they have to change the system

I already stopped playing the game. Its actually sad because the game is fun. I started last year in September/October before it became ftp, i paid for the premium edition and played it till the wreck it ralph season came out. And to be honest i cant anymore, they removed the voices, they made me feel that the upgradecoins are more of a cashgrab than a help, its pay to win and the worst thing of all, they removed all the characters in local mode, meaning you have to unlock them to play with them. I will delete this game today and download ctr again. I enjoy watching your videos since i started playing this game, keep it up as long as you can 😂
I’m a Disney Dreamlight valley player (also speedstorm), and I going to say this: I get more value playing DDLV, sure at first I was mad when they announce the game wasn’t going to be free to play, but at the end of the day it’s worth it. The basic game cost: 30$ the DLC A rift in time: 30$, sure there is a shop for buying moonstones (special coins) with real money, I only bought the highest pack with 14’500 moonstones (50$) ONLY TWICE. And the content is FREE, the gameplay is great, updates awesome.
With speedstorm I feel robbed…
I am a DLV player as well and I agree with you. I love that they also give out 300-12,000 free moonstones every week to every player who participates in DreamSnaps that week. And then also the 50 moonstones free each week if you vote on top of the daily moonstone chests. It allows everyone to be able to get the premium shop items/bundles without spending extra money.
I hate that Gameloft didn’t follow the same model with Speedstorm as they did with DLV. It would have been a perfect racing game if they did. And it makes me sad cuz I love Disney and want to love the game as much as I do with DLV.
I enjoy both as well, and it surprised me to realize that I prefer paying upfront for a premium-priced game rather than engaging with a free-to-play one that relies on loot boxes.
they could have left the game paid, or put it on a subscription service, like dreamlight valley did with game pass, and put it on other subscription services

I wished from the beginning that is was a full payed game like Mario Karts. That would have saved me a lot of time and frustration. The current state of the game is so bad, to many bugs. Ranked is almost unplayable for me. So many freezing screens that I loose to much games. On top of that low level racers are mixed with level 30-50 so it is very hard to gain anything. I am only leveling up racers that are close to level 50. This season I put all my resourced into Vanellope. Felix and KC are only level 20. At this level I get a feeling for the racer and I decide if they are worth to level up. So far only Veneloppe. You have to be picky otherwise you run out of coins. So far I have 15 level 50 racers and Stitch is level 49. I converted all my tokens into Golden Pass credits cause that will give me the most upgrade coins and season coins. With the season coins I only buy crew shards I use for level 50 racers and shards for racers close to 50.
After my Golden Pass credits are finished I am done. I keep playing the game but I am not investing in the game any longer. The game is just not worth it anymore and way to expensive.

It's not 50% off if the price is the highest it's been 1440 token's for 5 shards for Sully and Buzz when we had star up packs 1200 tokens for 20 shards.

The game is currently very difficult for me to progress and get character cosmetics, especially in Rank matches. In the current state of my account, I can say that I have nothing else to do, my level 35 to 40 characters are almost all in diamond (4 characters) and the rest are level 25 or lower... I'm honestly a little unmotivated to playing lately for these reasons and others. I started playing in the middle of Season 5 and since then, I can say that there were a lot more events in Season 5 alone than in the current one, not to mention the fact that they are giving us few update coins :(
I have the feeling that I might experience a similar kind of burnout with the game in another season or so.
@@wonderrob3225 I have this feeling too, I think that if they solve the problem of low level characters falling with very high level characters in a classification rank like platinum/gold, it would help me... lately I've been getting a lot of high level characters in a just lobby.

What's the point of tier lists when the game is mega P2W? I guess some light hearted messing about fun, but that's all.
I prefer progression because i feel like i earned something hard to get what i dont like is how you need $10.000 to progress not $10 and the they keep doubling down every season on giving them every penny you got which is insane i dont like mario kart style at all i just drop it after 5 minutes because everything is available off rip so theirs no sense of earning anything so why play it
I opened 10 boxes and 2 shards 😂 the upgrade coins drought is insane. I wish they sold the game as PS5 disc for example but have a better progression. I don’t know maybe I’m not adjust to the new way yet.

I still wouldn’t consider this a true free to play game. Everything is so expensive and most of the experience is actually locked behind a paywall. Charge for the game and ditch the supposed free to play. You need online connection to play the game anyway
And the lack of a reward after a race makes me not want to keep grinding more races we should be getting 1k gold per race permanently and or 5 premium coins per race permanently
Getting Disney Speedstorm free-to-play was the greatest and most luckiest thing that ever happened to me in my life.
I also got so much fun for NO money in this game. Still, I understand the burnout people are going through.

I gave up on this game, uninstalled 1 week ago so overpriced, no progression, so many paywall moments, poor challenge rewards. The road this game took only goes to be abandoned.
I wouldve preferred to pay for the game like any other game. $100 and be done with the micro transactions.
