      @@TheCanadianHomePainter , what if isn't a hole, but an edge? I'm repairing missing ceiling from my switch from a circular bathroom vent fan housing to a square one and have large gaps in the ceiling between the new housing.

      @@slappy1965 without seeing it exactly hard to say what is best, you may be able to just use some sheetrock 90, but if it is too big for sheetrock 90 then the patch kit should work

    Whats is the name of what you use to cover before you screed it

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are different types of patch kits on the market, depends where you live what might be available. This is a mesh tape that has a aluminum backing to keep it durable. There is an adhesive that is on the back of the mesh tape to help it stick and cover the hole before you add your premixed drywall compound. I use CGC drywall compound

  • @ejordan9885
    @ejordan9885 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ve added the patch and applied the compound and now the patch sags. Any suggestions?

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bit of a sag is ok, depends on the hole size , and how much compound is applied. The adhesive on the back should have helped it to stay tighter on the surface. How big was the hole and how big of a patch did you buy?

    How big does those patches come? I stepped thru my ceiling putting up xmas decorations 🤬 lol

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately probably not as big as you need for that, here I have got them 10×10 but if you went right through the ceiling you may need something bigger.

    What am I supposed to do if the patch doesn't stick to the ceiling?

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure, I have never had that happen, it may be you got one that didnt have enough glue on it. I would return it to the store and try another one.

      @TheCanadianHomePainter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There really inst much prep needed, peel off the paper from the aluminum that has the adhesive on and stick over the hole, apply the pre mixed all purpose compound and repeat a few times then a final sanding , then prime and paint over , hope this helps

    That is a tiny hole! I have a hole in the corner where water leak brought about 2feet by 2feet of the ceiling down. Don't think these patches would work.
