This mix worked fantastic! I used it on white carpet (yeah, what WERE we thinking about that color choice, eh?) - and it cleaned it amazingly! I first went over it with my machine. Then I took a very stiff hand brush and used a small amount of the solution to take care of problem spots. Then I went over the entire carpet again. This was 19 year old carpet, btw. We've always kept it in pretty good shape using a carpet machine whenever it got dingy. But this area was in my wife's large closet, where it had gotten really dirty. That carpet almost looks new now!
A couple of tips - keep your carpets FAR cleaner by not wearing shoes in the house! And if you have a dog, clean its feet before it comes back inside - I keep a stack of small, white washcloths just for this purpose - I wet them / squeeze the water out, and put a trickle of dishwashing liquid in them and re-squeeze the excess water out, then clean the dog's feet and inbetween the digits.
I used the same measurements for the mix as someone else noted, first mixing the ingredients in a separate container with VERY hot TAP water (Do NOT use simmering / boiling water - as it WILL damage your carpet machine!), and then pouring it into the machine's solution reservoir. I rinsed very thoroughly and spent extra time sucking up the rinse water. I used a floor fan to dry much quicker.

Thank you for sharing, we have dogs and the Hoover carpet cleaning solution just left a film and got even dirtier in my opinion. I used your solution recommendation and my carpet looks great! I will continue to use this solution going forward

Did you know that if you turned down the loud annoying music that you are playing that people could actually hear what your saying? I didn't watch your video did look in the description to see if you listed what you used and all you listed was Borax and while Amazon sells it online its also available in stores.
I realise this is an old video, but if anyone is viewing this video in 2024, what do you think about mixing soap (alkaline) and vinegar (acidic). Don't they neutralize each other?

We installed new carpet 4 yrs ago, and we have 3 dogs. I have noticed after the carpet cleaning using the bissell soap, I never seem to get the soap residue out of the carpet. The carpet when dry is difficult to vacuum due to the left behind soap. I am going to try this. I will let you know when I am finished. Thank you

We have an Oriental rug that one of our dogs messed on,we have tried numerous ways of cleaning it but it still feels damp and sticky ,how can we get rid of the stickyness ,?lts just on one corner,the wool has matted now but l still would like to get rid of the sticky ness
Does it work on pet stains and odors? If so I have the ingriendiets to clean. I used fawn soap and vinegar before but didnt know about the borax or I would havevused it. I didnt look itvup but usually use DIY products so I had last timebI cleaned my carpet. Its old carpet probably from 70s brown ugly color in most of the house except inevroom hasva beige color but another article said it won't bleach dark catpet colors. I really dont if it does but well see. If you can use it in your diy laundry soap it shouldnt be a problem.
Thanks for sharing your recipe (and your sweet dogs.) you have useful descriptions of the respective functions of your active ingredients. I’d appreciate seeing the cleaned carpet next time. The point about the detergent Acting as a magnet for future stains was especially useful. Would you consider posting a video in which you clean half the carpet as usual and half by adding a rinsing step, then reporting A comparison when the time comes to clean the conventional side again? That way, we could see whether the rinsed side stayed cleaner. If your shampooed-as-usual side needs cleaning at the normal time, maybe the shampoo/rinse Side will show less dirt, since it has less detergent residue to cause reoffending. Please?
The video maker doesn't know what hes talking about. Doesnt have a clue about types of dirt and the ph of chemical cleaners. Leave out the vinegar and the solution will work better. The only thing vinegar is useful for is pickling vegetables and dissolving hard water deposits and its not very good at doing that, Oh and cleaning windows without streaks IF YOU DONT HAVE AMMONIA on hand.

Is there anything that can be substituted for borax if you have dark colored carpet? Would it be best to just purchase some gallons of water instead?
My advice would be to go heavy on the vinegar then. I've talked with professional carpet cleaners who sometimes run pure vinegar through their machines on tough stains and very soiled carpets. It won't smell pleasant, but that will dissipate. Thanks for watching DANDLINC.

Vinegar cuts soap, so I wonder if combing the soap and vinegar together will reduce the effectiveness of the soap. Would it be better to first use the soap, with the water softener, then rise the carpet with a water/vinegar solution?

Yes, do that, but be sure to remove the acetic acid well before using an enzyme neutralizer like odoban. Odoban brand soap is different from their enzyme.

Oxiclean is not even close to being the same thing as borax Borax is natural. Apparently the Odeban leaves a residue I just read and residue attracts dirt so I wouldn’t.

Odorban is not supposed to be used in carpet cleaners with a heating element.

Yes, it should do well on upholstery too. Just be sure to check it on a less visible portion first to make sure it has the desired outcome. Good luck!

I have not tried the solution yet, but I just wanted to request that u make this video again without any background music (it's super distracting and so annoying--at least to my ears) and please use a microphone..I can barely hear anything u are saying..I had to turn on the words to read what u were saying. Thank u for reminding me to make my own videos much better quality!!! I dont mean to come across negative or judgemental, I just want to be able to hear the videos on TH-cam and Im sure u want ppl to be able to hear them clearly as well! A word of advice. Turn off the background music. I had to use closed captioning just to figure out half of what you were talking about.
As a professional carpet cleaner I suggest you measure your 3 products and mix them separately then add to the machine tank after the borax has dissolved, The amounts you said you added and what you actually used were way off !
Can you use the regular odo ban for this instead of the 3 in 1 carpet cleaner he shows ? Its way too far to have to travel to get it & I need to clean my daughter's & son in laws carpets before they come home from the hospital with my new grandson..

The solution is a brown carpet.
All carpets move towards brown.
Brown just changes shade.
I started with a brown carpet and it never looked dirty per se .
Replaced it with a periwinkle, and it turns brown....
Not a pet friendly color.
