I also have a Moondrop May. And as soon as I tested the phone on another DAC dongle I noticed that in addition to the noise problem mentioned, there is also a bit of distortion that is sometimes more noticeable, sometimes less. I got much more interesting results using the May on other dongles and controlling the DSP through third-party apps.
I bought the May after finding out the Hexas would not fit my ears sadly. Of the 2 I definitely like the sound of the Hexa’s more but I still find its sound signature enjoyable, even if it’s not as detailed as the Hexa’s. I know a few people have complained about the noise floor, but even when trying to listen for it, I don’t hear it. Maybe I got a really good cable? Who knows.
I am frustrated with the app (as an iOS user) as it just won’t work for me at all. However, the noise floor on my unit isn’t really noticeable at all, especially when compared to other DSP IEMs I have (Tanya, Quarks, Jiu… the Quarks are particularly bad).
this is a great review, i have honestly been enjoying the may i havent noticed the noise that you talk about here but that may just be on me, BUT i have a different problem sometimes when i go out to walk to the store ill put my phone in my jacket chest pocket and have the may plugged into that ill walk like 15 minutes and suddenly all sound just stops, ill unplug it replug it nope, ill unplug it and unplug the 2pin connection and still nothing and ill gently move the cord around maybe theres a break in the cord NOPE then like 2 minutes later ill try again and suddenly its working and i can move the cable around like crazy and no problem honestly i was so baffled by this BUT MIND YOU the whole time i didnt have any sound my phone read the iems as if they were a storage device like it was ask me how would i like to use this storage device and when i'd unplug it the prompt it gone n when i replug it that prompt showed back up im honestly so confused by this, its happened to me three times now i cant replicate it, its just random, the last time it happened i uninstalled and reinstalled the software for moondrop and after i did that it fixed it, i havent had it happen since but i also havent been using my iems much since i've been busy with other things lately lol

does DSP IEMs still need fading in when playing a song?

do you think it's still worth getting if i have an IOS device?

Great review! May is good, but yes the app is frustrating.
It's the dsp cable that is the cause for the distortion
I May skip these
uhm your audio has a static noise, are you aware?
im aware. unfortunately at the time there was a lot of electrical noise in my room which my mic could pick up depending on how it was positioned.
