Collard! Gorgeous.
Cf. Glenn Gould, Ernst Levy
Each and every one: "A thing of beauty is a joy forever." Keats.
How lucky we are that we're able to experience these performances, now and again and again. Each giving a nuance of more perfection.
Helping me to bear this day. Mille mercis.
Gieseking makes this melody sing.... and his beautiful sound and soul brings out the true emotion of this song (for me).
Really like W.Klein's. Also have heard that he was a wonderful person and teacher. Have read Geiseking's, another great teacher, excellent book. An opponent of repetitive scales and finger exercises.
such a difficult piece to interpret! first theme so simple to sound interesting, tempo management in the following part, rhytm change from binary to ternary as well as complex armonic progression. But all this bringing to the sheer beauty of the second theme in themiddle part, one of the best pages of piano music literature.
Each so different ! I am amazed and entranced
Thank you for posting this.
Rich and hauntingly expressive reading by Gisele Magnan.
Eileen Joice really telling me a story with her Interpretation, and Gisele Magnan- wonderful, too👍👍👍!!!
Hmmm. There seem to be 9 performances. Not 10. Regardless, much appreciate that these nine performances of this beautiful piece are made available.
would love a competition on the Rach Prelude Op 23 #4
Gieseking is king! It's full of longing (except the second theme of course), never sentimental, never hurried, never boring, full of authentic emotion. He has a way of breathing that's natural for a longing person (Brahms must have been in love at the time).
no Glenn, no party :-)
The painting at 20:00, called St Paul in Prison I think, perfectly captures the mood of the piece.
Yes, Rembrandt and last Brahms works make a perfect sensucht match !
Glenn Gould
Glenn Gould interprets Bach Goldberg Variations according to the late Brahms, that is the secret.
Pour moi la meilleure interprétation est la première :Tout y est, la palette sonore, l'atmosphère ,la nostalgique tendresse.
Walter Klien !
A pleasant surprise, if a bit restless.
My favorite here as well.
The missing interpretation is Heinrich Neuhaus`.
I was the 10th one (blocked by YT...)
Must have been the practice to perform this much faster in the old days. Bachaus! What's the rush?
Perhaps... the way Brahms wrote it?
Gisele Magnan and Gieseking
10人のピアニストと有りますが.実際録音されているのは9にんです。
Read the introductory comments.
1. Lupu (not presented here)
2. Gieseking
3. Collard
Julius Katchen is in a league of his own for this piece.
@@epicaunleashed8764 Thanks. I have his Brahms box, but have not re-visited it in many years. Now I will.
Perahia
Volodos
Backhaus plays without sentimentality, and much faster than the others. One can argue that this best suits the music. His 1930s recordings of Schumann and Brahms are far superior to his poswar interpretations.
U FORGOT GOULD AND LARS VOGT !
I pity Wilhelm Kempff’s wife: love-making would be over in a flash if his awful rendition of this beautiful and sensual piece is anything to go by. Also Eileen and the other Wilhelm….However it’s Seymour Berstein’s most loving rendition that beats them all. The playing of this piece requires a sense of endless time. There's something awfully wrong with Vakarelis' recording.
There's a repetition of a small part at the beginning, (as if it were copied and pasted), other than that what's awfully wrong? It's not like it's the entire piece.
Gieseking su tutti.
One of my favorites by Brahms. Here's the very first version I have ever heard: th-cam.com/video/5JwKDzPlYQs/w-d-xo.html
Au fait, vous avez quelque chose contre Mozart, Haydn et Beethoven? On le dirait.
Joyce does ugly things but also wonderfull ones! Maybe she had to hurry to make it fit the record but was able to squeeze in some special moments (like when I drive my kid to school in a hurry: I go easy in dangerous corners and fast where I "have to").
Perahia
Volodos
Glenn Gould's was best. But, he's not listed here. :(
I seem to be drawn to the more moderate performances. I even like
Khatia Buniatishvili's, which pours over the senses like warm honey (th-cam.com/video/tkxn1W2KyI0/w-d-xo.html). I enjoyed Vakarelis, Collard (except for the way she leaps off the f in the arpeggio of the first beat of the 3rd measure), Kempff. But Emanuel Ax is my personal favorite: th-cam.com/video/MLBwPu8tiPQ/w-d-xo.html
Walter Gieseking … by far
I'am in love with Joyce, Vakarelis and Collard !
あまりよい企画では有りませんね.年第的に録音されたノが古すぎます。
