    First proper day exploring the Czech Republic and we head to the Old Town Square of Prague (or Praha), this place is breath taking. No trip to the city is complete without looking at the Charles bridge as well, an amazing and enormous bridge connecting the square (or there abouts) with the other side of the river. The Old Town Tyn Church and Clock are centre in the square and the scale and architecture of the place blew us away.
    Prague is a stunning city and we've got a lot more to share from the Czech Republic in vlogs coming soon.

    Czech republic is preparing for a huge celebration of 100 years of its existence. Czechoslovakia 1918 - 2018
    So lot of monuments will be revealed as shining splendor.
    That is why so many things are covered now.

    As always, you have captured the essence of the place beautifully. The big thing I've taken away from this vlog is how much we who are born and raised in Europe take for granted the history and antiquity that is all around us. Seeing your sense of wonder in relation to the age and style of the architecture and culture is going to be my main lesson of the day to look with fresh eyes at what is around me every day here in the UK. Cheers guys!!

      Very true, Rex. We're loving what we see, even more so than ever, after spending so long in Asia. You guys are lucky with the history and architecture!

      Lol I was just thinking about the same thing. When I was for the last time at the Old Town Square, I was looking at the grafitti, trash, dog poop (okay, that was in other parts of the neighbourhood) , Russian trinkets everywhere (I mean EVERYWHERE), overpriced everything, but I mostly ignored what this place is REALLY about. I am Czech, so I'm partially immune to this I think.

    I am happy you like my city :-) the way you create the video is really beautiful. BTW the clock on the Old Towns Square was made back in 15th century I think and this year it is being repaired, should take half a year, they started in January 2018. I live in quitter part of the city center, Prague 2 which is more residential and far from the touristic area. I will check your other videos. :-) Na shledanou!

    I'm moving to Prague in September for a TEFL program and this is the first video that I've found that ACTUALLY shows Prague and how full it is with tourist and how it looks. everyone else just shows it without tourists or just sit and talk and show like 5 seconds of the city.

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Such a nice comment, thanks Carolina! Glad you found us and enjoyed - TH-cam can be tricky to crack but we really try our best to show as much of the city as possible, these vlogs arent about us. We've got a few other Prague videos already, and a few more to come as well to show you around ☺️ Prague is amazing, you'll love it.

      local guide chiming in here (pun intended;)) - The clock is under renovation from feb - Oct 2018. They're doing a major overhaul to remove the modern clockwork put in in the 1980s and replacing it with more authentic 'old style' mechanisms to be more accurate to the clock's medieval design. Both the clock & the National Museum are planned re-open on Oct 28 2018, the centennial anniversary of the first republic of Czechoslovakia :)

Also, I very enjoyed your video, lovely to see you like a capital city of my home Czech Republic❤

    I was last week there.. Prague is a must have for everyone who loves old architecture and a good old calm atmosphere. It’s the Czech capital city but honestly really quiet and nice people. Trdelnik was the highlight for me. It’s a slovakian dessert (search on google). And please don’t change money at the airport, passengers or little change offices. eXChange is the honest place to change your money!

    I live in Prague so it’s really interesting for me to see how you enjoy it here :-D. In Prague we’re really proud of our beautiful center, but lost of streets in Prague I found really ugly and dirty and I don’t think it’s really good place to live. I never haven’t live on some other place and problems are everywhere so it’s maybe only my personal view. The prices in restaurants and supermarkets are not high but on the other side the salary in Czech Republic is normally 3 times lower than in Germany or Western Europe countries and the prices of houses are by me quite high too. What I know the average large flat costs 500000 euro it’s in some old building and not very close to center. Even tho is Prague very good places to visit and I hope you enjoy here everything.

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We love Prague and love that you've enjoyed watching it through our eyes! We tend to agree, we were sort of told to expect cheaper prices, but it's not been as lean on the wallet as what we thought. Still, such an incredible city - we love the Czech Republic!

How long would you recommend to stay in Prague to see and film it, we are thinking of going there later this summer, we will be vlogging it too. Just back from doing a travel vlog in Lyon, France :-). I'll check back on some of your older videos. Andy

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Andy, glad you enjoyed. Long answer - Prague is a big place, but to tick off the main sites on either side of the river you can sort of do it in one day each, so 2 days total. For us though, that's to fast, we like to go much slower and explore neighberhoods and go a bit deeper. This video was on the old town side, we have one coming up from the Castle side, but our next one is just visiting a great local spot and a beer garden etc, slower pace, less people, no tourists - if thats your thing. Short answer - 3-4 days would get you loads of content.

    1:24 - You say “the” Kafka monument but there are many in Prague! This one is admittedly the biggest and flashiest; I like some of the others better though (they seem to do a better job of capturing the spirit of Kafka's writings).
    2:30 - A lot of those trinkets aren’t even Czech! Those nutcracker dolls, for example, are German, not Czech. (Markets in Prague also often sell nested matryoshka dolls, which are Russian, not Czech. Anything to fool the tourists.)
    3:09 - That old house with all the human-figure decorations on the outside is where Kafka lived as a child.
