    You guys are awesome. One of the best travel vlogs. I really love the fact that you also visit the areas that are missed by the average tourist. Great way to travel, that's how you really get the feel for the "local living". Thanks guys for sharing.

    Huge like for your attitude
    ;) you are real travelers. People should watch your videos before their trip/holiday/whatever and decide if they want to be tourist or traveler. You just simply show the differences.

    4:52 I was living in Karlin in 2002 (Vitkova ulice) when the floods occurred. We got one of the last cabs out before the river breached the embankment. It was crazy. Couch surfed for a couple months until civil engineers finally cleared our building for reentry. Loved Karlin back then--lots looks the same, lots looks different. But definitely brings back good memories. Thanks for posting this!

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's crazy! Glad you got out OK. No floods there since that date?

    • @svalbard01
      @svalbard01 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanegerAndStacey It was the worst flooding in 100 years. There have been other floods since then, at least in southern Czech, but not of this magnitude. If you look at this video, the very first clip shows them rafting outside the Florence metro station, just a few blocks down from Karlin. th-cam.com/video/VLycDXrWBNc/w-d-xo.html You can see the old DelVita store (now Billa) on Sokolovska. Our apartment was on the mezzanine level, so about 3-4m above the street. The waterline peaked just at our floorboards, so our apartment was spared. It was such a nutty time.

    Hello there. Karlín was looking before 2002 year same as your neighborhood on tramstop U Zvonu. After floods many people moved out of Karlin, because they didnt have money for repairing destroyed buildings, so new people came and rebuilt Karlin for todays look.

      Can confirm that Karlín used to be different ....my granny and aunt had to move out because rent got really expensive there, it used to be mainly residential district.

    • @Pidalin
      @Pidalin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly, after 2002 big floods Karlín was totaly damaged and it's not Karlín anymore, it's weird hipster spot and place where foreignen corporations building offices for their office mices, but it's not Karlín which I remember from childhood. I don't know if that is good or bad, but normal average people are not living there too much as in the past.

    • @karelhynekmacha6294
      @karelhynekmacha6294 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pidalin Ivan Hlas used to sing about Karlin, also Hanspaulka. A Czech friend took me to Vitkov Hill near the Narodni Pamatnik and pointed out to me the north and south vistas from the hill. She said there was a traditional "Giant Slalom" of visiting pub to pub to pub on the Zizkov side, and another Giant Slalom of visiting pub to pub to pub on the Liben/Karlin side. The time for this: 1980s? 1920s?

    Now this is what you guys excel at - getting under the skin of a place. You can only truly get to know a country by moving away from the tourist areas and experiencing what the locals do. I learned this in my teens when I used to spend 3 weeks every summer living with a French family in the Loire Valley region. It teaches you that there are so many perspectives to life other than your own. Great vlog as always!

    If you go to Přístav on a workday afternoon, you will hear English all around you but the people won't be tourists. It is a favourite place for workers from the office buildings nearby and there are quite a few foreigners there as well. It gets chock full of people in the afternoons.
    Karlín is definitely a great part of town to just chill in, but most parts of Prague are.

    Hi guys, happy you enjoyed Karlin. Once you visit Prague again you can actually use the tunnel under Vítkov hill (right by Forum Karlin, the hall where the concert took place) that connects Karlin with Zizkov and Vinohrady. The area around Jiriho z Podebrad square, Riegrovy sady or Havlickovy sady has similar great vibe.

    For oldies like myself who enjoy the old architecture (1930s and before) and loathe the new (same looking concrete, glass & steel anywhere in the world), the district of Holešovice (i.e the western section) offers nice surroundings and the experience of how Prague folks live.

    Studied abroad in Prague this past January to late May - it is a completely different city when it gets warm out compared to in the wintertime. On your language comment about the ability to find English-speakers; they definitely brought out the English as tourists started flooding in, which makes sense but was extremely frustrating to see after staying through a bit of winter and struggling with the language. I got the Berlin vibes as well when I first got here and I loved it, but the Czech people really turned me off and I don’t know if I’ll ever go back. I do agree though that the city is in a really interesting transition, with young people 30 and under really transforming Prague as the first Post-Communist generation. After my experience there, I’ve been enjoying your take on the city! Cheers

    Hey guys, some random stuff: they just opened a largest virtual reality game in Europe in Hamleys toyshop Na Příkopě, it's called Golem VR, might be interesting experience. (the wide shopping boulevard crossing Wenceslas square at the bottom).
    Many tips can be found in Honest Guide youtube videos, can't recommend that channel enough.
    For something sad and atmospheric you can visit the crypt in a church near Karlovo náměstí where the paratroopers hid after killing Heydrich, highest ranked nazi ever killed. It's free entrance and there's a movie called Anthropoid with Jamie Dornan and Gillian Murphy about this. You can still see the bullet impressions on the church walls. You can also see bullet impressions on Wenceslas Square Museum building, these are Soviet from 1968 invasion. So much for the chill vibe:P
    Also, for some great aerial Instagram photos of the Old Town Square, I heard "terasa U prince" is very good.
    And you can see the most beautiful library in the world (according to some international surveys) in Klementinum.

    Sorry folks but for me Prague is massively overrated. Restaurants - western prices for eastern quality and service. Hordes of noisy tourists everywhere. Was looking for some sort of a tavern in Jaroslav Hasek's Svejk's style but failed to find anything like that.
    Looks like a perfect place for English "lads" straight from a building site looking for cheaper beer and equally cheap shag.
    Very disappointed indeed (can you get any more chilly in British English? - probably not).
    Won't be back any time soon.
