Every Prius has to start to get to operating temp in the morning. Fun fact there is actually a coolant hose pipe interchanged with your exhaust to get to operating temp much quicker. Have a look next time you are getting your car serviced, you'll be amazed about the tech in these cars!
He just ran the car. It's not charging from an alternative source like you are probably seeking. That is exactly the design of the vehicle....this is actually a waste of time and gas. This is achieved just driving the car.

The funny thing that actually it doesn't use any gasoline. I have no idea how. If it would, than it would be written on the screen when I turn it of. And also the possible km woud go down. But both stays. I have a prius plug in 2014, I do the same trick. It's a very good way to charge the car by itself.

No need to do this before driving, just start the car into Ready mode and then drive it straight away & it'll charge itself appropriately
