I hear snake in the house and immediately think “ protect the babies!” I’m not scared of animals outside, just in my safe space.

Yep, me too, so worried about them at the start of this video. Haven’t watched all the way yet……
We rescued a tiny, still bald baby mouse from one of our cats, and we fed it mashed tofu. She survived and became the sweetest pet.
I’m so sorry for your loss……🧡

I had to hand raise three baby bunnies years ago when their nest was roto-tilled. One of the staff I was working with lived on a conservation authority, and he got a formula for feeding them which worked great. Plain milk doesn't have enough "kick" to keep them alive. You take 1 cup whole milk, one tsp. plain yoghurt with active culture in it, and one egg yolk. The yoghurt keeps their digestion working well, and the yolk adds protein and body to the mix. Serve warm like baby formula. I used an epoxy syringe and they started on 1cc, eventually going up to several cc's before they weaned on clover. One of them died of a bladder infection after it was weaned, but the other two were successfully released. One peculiarity of feeding wild bunnies is they'll only take food while they're actually in the nest - try to pick them up, and they think you're going to kill them and they'll just cry. Mice may be similar to this scenario - give it a shot next time.Edited to add: Crap! I just went to pick up a piece of fluff, and it was a live baby mouse! Looked big enough, but was probably dying of thirst. Outside now. Live traps will be out for all the brothers and sisters!

We brought them in and put them in a shoebox over a heating pad. They perked up so we bought some kitten milk and bottle fed them. When they started drinking water and eating dandelions I let them go.

Frogs🐸 have been special to me since I was 3 yrs old.
I saved them all from Daddy's lawnmower. One being wedged in between the wheel & the outer body of the lawnmower.
Then I noticed they were everywhere in our backyard.
I was so young & didn't think twice about collecting them up in a plastic🥺bag (wasn't thinking).
Proceeded to pour them all into the washer machine (it was empty) thinking they'd be safe there till Daddy was finished mowing.
Oops Mommy found them 1st & proceeded to scream 🔊 like she'd just seen a bunch of snakes.
I was slightly scolded (wink 😉 wink) by my Dad as he laughed his head off at my Mom being afraid of little old 🐸 frogs.
I never stopped protecting them from the dreaded lawnmower & indeed found a safer place until mowing was over (with Dad's help).

When I was little, my father spooked a nest of mice living in a tool box up at our cabin, and the mother grabbed one baby and left, the remaining three baby mice were too young to have their eyes open, and we somehow convinced our parents that we could raise them. we fed them powdered milk from tiny syringes and cuddled with them endlessly - we didnt even have a cage for them because we were living in the middle of nowhere with no road access (boat only), and somehow all three survived. I've loved rodents ever since. I'm 40 and i'm still begging my husband to let me have a pet rat. lol I look back on raising those baby mice as one of my fondest childhood memories, so I completely understand how you feel about your mice. It's really sad that the two little babies didn't survive. Likely, between the time they were left by their mother and they were found, and then brought to you, too much time had passed for them to recover from malnutrition and dehydration - but at least they found their way into your comforting hands for their last little bit.

I live in a wooded area and snakes are just part of life here. I try to live in balance with wildlife because we’re all sharing the same space. I caught one of those black/yellow water snakes in my kitchen the other day. I gently sweep them into a bin and put them outside. I’m only fearful of them if they’re venomous. That’s the only time I will ever kill a snake. They’re usually just trying to stay away from you and go about their business. I find that a snake in the walls actually keep the rodent population to a minimum. I know you’re a mouse lover but they can easily takeover your house if there isn’t a predator around.

i'd be a little cautious about ticks as well, but cutting a wide path like she did should minimize some of the risk.
