This is a much better format of instructional video from tactical. Hopefully next mini seminar can be like this. Matt and Tim fish while talking helps the viewer to understand so much more easily. Might catch one too to proof the point.
Thank you! We’d both love to be able to be on the water for all of our videos but it’s a time thing. Between our day jobs and families it’s impossible to get out on the water for every video. Appreciate the kind words!
Love your videos !! Matt and Tim don't talk down to people and everything is explained with great detail. I love that you share all your gear and that you share your techniques. Has made me a better fisherman in just the few months since I started prescribing to your channel. I wish there was a split screen sometimes so that I could see the technique with the gear in action.
I was doing this as well as nose hooking weightless swimbaits for smallies for the last few weeks and it has been amazing. Glad you're sharing this with the community, many folks will have good luck with this. Have a good weekend!
Last year I bought a fury spinning rod and fuego reel due to Tim’s recommendation. And boy am I glad I did. For a $200 budget spinning combo, it doesn’t get much better. Thanks guys
For a budget finesse rod you guys should really look into the st Croix eyecon 7’6” medium light extra fast. For 130 it is incredibly sensitive and light. It’s designed for walleye but it is perfect for Ned’s tubes and drop shots as well as tiny Swimbaits. It’s not easy to find a medium light over 7’ for a reasonable price so this is an amazing option for anglers on a budget who like long rods like me. Please check it out, I think it’s a good step up from an Sox due to the sensitivity and length
Good stuff. As a predominately shore angler getting back into fishing, I love how user friendly drop shot is even from the shore. Just one more tool in the box for me to use.
Great information Tim! I've experimented with all kinds of plastics, but never thought of using a swimbait on a dropshot. I can see the different ways to fish it, because of your visual demonstrations. I appreciate all the videos you two share because there is a finominal amount of knowledge in the videos you present. I have become a better fisherman, and conservationist because you gave back! Thank you!
Tim - so much info I had to watch it twice and still feel I missed a lot. Thanks for another great instructional. I concur with OtterleeArtward - I like this style of video where you explain while fishing better than the ones where it's just you, or you and Matt, sitting in the boat talking - though I've learned boatloads from those videos, too. Now if I could just successfully apply what you've taught..
Thank you! Honestly it all comes down to time. We love to be out on the water teaching you guys in every video but sometimes it’s a time thing. Our time is very limited with our other jobs and families. Thank you for the kind words 👍
I wish I would have seen this yesterday. caught a 4" bass and a perch on a drop shot. high pressure got us. Fishing was good, then went dead today...I'll try this next time out. Thanks for what you do!
Don’t say never. I use to say that too. It’s taken almost 30 years to accumulate the gear I use. Get the best gear you can afford and you will do great. Thank you!
Good show. Just done a video on the old school 4'' grub. Drop shot, lead head and mojo rig for fall bass. This is also a great way to fish for schooling bass, Thanks FLC
No secret is safe from you guys! Always love the content. Have been fishing this technique on Erie for years. One other thing we do, especially when fishing 35’+ is throw on a 1oz wait and reel the bait directly over the bottom, ticking the whole time. Sounds crazy but it’s great when they’re glued to bottom in a finesse bite
So much truth to this video!!! Was dropshotting worms on my last fishing trip with not a single bite, switched to the 3” hazedong and that’s when I started landing em!!
Thumbs up! I always learn something new from your videos. Could you please make a video on Fall bass fishing from the bank? Techniques, lures, fish patterns.... etc. Like a "Fall beginners bass fishing oriented" video? This could be good for the intermediate anglers during Fall season OR for people how just started bass fishing at this time of the year. Thank you!
Excellent video Tim. You da man. Drop shot is one of my favorite techniques to fish. I used to power fish allot but this year has been 80% finesse fishing. Thanks for the tips.
This is really usable info. My dad always drop shots live minnows and I used his rig like this with some artificials and ended up smokin' him. Thanks TB!
Well done as usual. Our water temps in Northern IL were upper 40’s last weekend and expect temps to fall fast due to the 5”+ snow today (Halloween, 2019). Looking forward to drop shotting this weekend. Thank you. Damn, NRX spinning rod or another pistol? Humm! Guess I’ll wait till Spring for one of those choices. Bet the NRX would be good for Shaky Head Fishing too.
You can fish from the bank no problem. Bout 5 years ago I was fishing every week and mainly from the bank. One trick a friend taught me was to use a splitshot weight clipped to the end of your line. That way when the weight got hung up you just pull till the weight slides away. First time I showed my stepdad how to drop shot from shore he caught 6 bass in an hour during a spring morning. Average was maybe a pound or so.
There's a small company in Massachusetts and they have a killer little drop shot bait with great colors that are different than what we have here. I killed it from July until last week here in Sonoma county. 5.9lbs was my biggest
Man ive checked 4 different stores i cant find anything smaller then 6 in. Your lucky if anything is in stock.I can see the fish when the water is clear and they could care less about what bait i use they are only feeding on the really small shad.
I left the comment before the weights ...I like to get my pliers with those weights and just crimp them a lil I have to do that with Walmart weights the ball weights can’t count how many times I slung them off casting ...great vids fellas always wanted to come out west and fish
I did this a few weeks ago at the river spot spit up a 4 inch bluegill so I went n found a close match been going it ever since mot alotta size yet but numbers have been way up in the ca delta with this new to me technique
Tim I know this is 3 weeks ago, why nose hook? Why not hook like a swim bait, seems to me that you’d get better hook up with minimal action loss in the bait
I just had the best morning of my life with the drop shot. But I used a 1/0 offset worm hook texas rigged with a watermelon red zoom trick worm. I had numbers and sizes today. If you read this give that set up a try in clear water
I love the drop shot videos. You guys have turned my fishing from decent to awesome. I’ve been heavily fishing drop shots in waters that no one else does. Catching spots from 6’ to 45’ year around now. Winter has replaced summer as my fishing season 😁. I may have missed it, do you ever use screw locks with your drop shot baits?
I love the dropshot because it is easily the most consistent bite all year. My problem is that they always seem to target the small fish. 1-1.5pbs. Are there ways to target the bigger ones of the school? Best luck I’ve had has been on Missile baits baby drop in green flash and roboworms baby bluegill 4.5”
How long of a leader? Mono or floro, I'm getting back into fishing after 15 years and drop shoting is what I focused on the most back then. Love the information you guys share. Thanks!
John Bruce I put a piece of velcro around the butt of the rod. Then store the weight inside the Velcro when not using. Otherwise you get huge tangles with the weight wrapping around the line and rod.
How well would an NRX 852s work for dropshotting compared to the 822s? I already have the 803s but Im trying to decide between the 822s and 852s for dropshot, NED, and shakeyhead. Im on a kayak so Im trying to minimize the number of rods I carry.
I (Matt) use the 852 to dropshot a lot. Its no where near as technique specific and I'd definitely recommend using the heavier Trokar dropshot hook as opposed to the Mosquito light since you won't have nearly as much give in the rod. The perk though is exactly what you mentioned, it will work for the other techniques as well. I have no problem setting a 3/0 or 4/0 round bend shaky head hook with the 852 but still manage to keep the dropshot fish pegged with appropriate gear.
No. First, lose the bobber immediately lol, the splash & the shadow from the bobber are more likely to scare bass away than intrigue them. As far as the presentation, the bait hangs by the nose so hanging from a bobber the bait would just hang vertically in the water nose up/tail down. In other words would look like a dead minnow. The weight hanging below the bait keeps the line tight & the bait in place. It's definitely worth learning the technique for those tough picky bass that don't seem to want anything at all. It allows you to place your bait in specific spots & hop it around, rather than just swimming it thru/around the strike zone over & over. No need for 10-20 casts, you just place it in key spots & if no bites within 1-2 drops you keep it moving using process of elimination until you find em. The only technique that allows you to control every single aspect of your baits presentation, from how high it sits in the water column to amount of action. I prefer angry reaction bites all day, I love my Keitech swimbaits & rarely set them down, but I learned my lesson years ago, never underestimate how vital it is to have on that day you needed it! Could very well make the difference between going home skunked & going home with a new PB!
When you said "a joyful little baitfish" I immediately pictured a Disney movie and baitfish swimming and singing underwater. Can you tell I have kids? I'm going to try the swimbaits on a drop shot my next trip out, thanks for the info.
LMAO! I made the comment on your fluke fishing vid a week ago about doing this! I wondered why you had never talked about it before.... (hope I had something to do with you deciding to do this video....let me dream LOL)
I don’t know if you guys maid a video like this before but I was actually telling my buddy last night about this he ask me how am I catching my fish literally just like you said I told him I use my drop shot like a swim jig 10lb suffix braid with 6lb Fluor leader casting it into schooling fish that’s busting the surface it’s some type of ESPN 😂
I know this is probably old news, But I read a thread last night that gary loomis was making rods again, and that shimano makes the g loomis rods now, and they are over priced and their warranty is a joke.

“swim it up, swim it down, up, down, up, down”. Tim you are the mr miagi to my daniel son!
😂
Keep on doing that repeatedly if you want to get your baitfish smoked
It's "Daniel-san", kemosabe.
Ehewwwww
Last year I bought a fury spinning rod and fuego reel due to Tim’s recommendation. And boy am I glad I did. For a $200 budget spinning combo, it doesn’t get much better. Thanks guys
That’s great to hear. Matt and I use a lot of different gear and only recommend stuff we believe is worth mentioning. I’m glad you like your combo 👍
I've watched this one 3x now. Thanks Tim.

@@tacticalbassin The way ya'll give up your limited time to teach us is very much appreciated!!
Why do people even hit the dislike button for? It's a fishing video that shows u how to actually catch fish lol
I wish I would have seen this yesterday. caught a 4" bass and a perch on a drop shot. high pressure got us. Fishing was good, then went dead today...I'll try this next time out.
Thanks for what you do!
Yall are wild with your favorite combos. That's money I could never spend. To each his own though. Great video!
Don’t say never. I use to say that too. It’s taken almost 30 years to accumulate the gear I use. Get the best gear you can afford and you will do great. Thank you!
Russell Ford I mean it's literally their job so it makes sense for them to buy it
Good show. Just done a video on the old school 4'' grub. Drop shot, lead head and mojo rig for fall bass. This is also a great way to fish for schooling bass, Thanks FLC

This video is spot on spot on.
Been playing with this lately and like the results, but this provided even more options and tips for success.
Hey dude like the videos please include more info on fall bank fishing thank you.
Thanks Tim.

Great job Tim
Great video and explanation.
Great video. I haven't felt a need to dropshot, yet, this transition but I know it is that time.
This is really usable info. My dad always drop shots live minnows and I used his rig like this with some artificials and ended up smokin' him. Thanks TB!
This is my deal! Thanks for blowing it wide open, Tim :-P
Sorry man 😞
@@tacticalbassin It's all good!
Another excellent video. Thanks, Tim.
Did you ever try the Keitech Swing impact(not the fat). Works also great!
Using it in Germany for perch fishing, works create

Blow up at 1:21 on the left.
What type line leader and how heavy of a weight should be used? Seems like I can never feel my bait get to bottom no matter which weight
I use a lighter leader for drop line. I use 10-15 braid- 6-8 leader to 6 bottom line with 3/16 to 3/8 weight. 1/4 most of the time.
10-12lb braid
6-8lb flouro leader
3/16-1/2oz weight
If you your lake bottom isn’t hard and more like mud you won’t feel much besides the fish 👍
Will these techniques work from shore?
well you can't drop it straight down like the first technique. but the rest yes
Yes BUT I would rig you drop shot weedless because typically there is a lot of stuff to get snagged in.
You can fish from the bank no problem. Bout 5 years ago I was fishing every week and mainly from the bank. One trick a friend taught me was to use a splitshot weight clipped to the end of your line. Saw this video yesterday. Fished a fluke on a drop shot the same day. Caught all my fish for the day that way.
There's a small company in Massachusetts and they have a killer little drop shot bait with great colors that are different than what we have here. I killed it from July until last week here in Sonoma county. 5.9lbs was my biggest
Nice vid Tim! I actually started doing this last and works great with 3” easy shiner. God bless!
man those tiny flukes should knock fire during this fall bite!
Is there a budget-friendly baitcast combo for drop shotting?
Tim!!! Thanks for the hoodie last month! Loving it!
Will this also work small pond fishing from a dock?
Man ive checked 4 different stores i cant find anything smaller then 6 in. Your lucky if anything is in stock.I can see the fish when the water is clear and they could care less about what bait i use they are only feeding on the really small shad.
Will this work in stained water also?
Phenix feather 7’1m spinning rod with braid is a great drop shot rod. I’ve chosen it over some higher end rods
What is that weight keeper for your drop shot at the bottom of your rod?
I left the comment before the weights ...I like to get my pliers with those weights and just crimp them a lil I have to do that with Walmart weights the ball weights can’t count how many times I slung them off casting ...great vids fellas always wanted to come out west and fish
3 or 4" Berkley Powerbait Sick Fish Swim bait are great for this
What length weight leader from the weight to the hook should i use? 12" ok ?
Hi,thank u a lot fo informative video.can i use it at saltwayer for seabsss?
I did this a few weeks ago at the river spot spit up a 4 inch bluegill so I went n found a close match been going it ever since mot alotta size yet but numbers have been way up in the ca delta with this new to me technique
Nice video
Tim I know this is 3 weeks ago, why nose hook? Why not hook like a swim bait, seems to me that you’d get better hook up with minimal action loss in the bait

Do y'all get credit if I put tackle on my wishlist at tackle warehouse and buy it later?
What about throwing like a small jerky J like the baby jerky 3.5 inches even tho it has a straight tail
Love your channel , keep at it 🔥💯
Tim how does the NRX dropshot rod compare to the original GLX dropshot rod?
Lighter and a little more sensitive.
Do you know the difference in NRX and GLX as far as materials used, I don’t with your access maybe you do thanks love your videos
How long of a leader? Mono or floro, I'm getting back into fishing after 15 years and drop shoting is what I focused on the most back then. Love the information you guys share. Thanks!
It depends on depth and water clarity but usually 8-15ft.

I have used same technique on bed fish in spring
swap them kietechs out for zman minnows.. same thing just last waaaay longer 👀
I drop shot berkely pro twitch minnow with the bulb tail all the time. I kill it using that
working graveyard made better by early AM tactical video drops!! many thanks !!
Leader length?
8-15’ depending on depth and water clarity
Ive caught spotted sand bass witg this rig
I know this is probably old news, But I read a thread last night that gary loomis was making rods again, and that shimano makes the g loomis rods now, and they are over priced and their warranty is a joke.
Where do I do a double thumbs up?

You forgot to mention using a owner centring spring in the bait so you dont rip off an entire pack of bait every time you go out and fish!
I actually don’t on this type of drop shotting. I want the bait nose hooked.
💯
the 7 dislikes are from people who suck at dropshot.... #facts
WTH 😭😭😭😞 who showed you that now I'll have to order my Kietec . Been doing that for a while. Early summer that little hook 8lbs flouro spinning combo skip it under docks kills the big resident bass
all i catch when drop shotting is crappies and blue gill
Tim ... shhhhhhhhhh.....😆
We pretty much only Dropshot keitechs
Does anyone have any luck using the drop shot from the bank? I just keep donating lures and weights to my local lakes 😂
It works but you can lose a lot of tackle.
Yup yup! Asking Santa for a Belly Boat/Float tune for Christmas. Great video thanks!

you must catch little bass
LOL!
First
awsome thanks
