I can clean with or without holding hookgrip but I noticed that two things happen when I hold it. One I feel slower in the turnover just because the bar doesn't spin as fast as I try to turn my elbows. And the other is it tends to cause my right elbow and shoulder to tighten up specifically in the snatch. So I decided for the sake of my snatch to release the grip and it definitely makes a difference.
Thanks a lot for this video, I think all the things you said are gonna help me a lot with my clean technique, which has been a real struggle for me since I started lifting, last week my couch and I conclude that my problem is that I literally drop under the bar without any control in the last part of the pull, so now that I´ve seen this video I think keeping the hookgrip throuht all over the clean is gonna help a lot with my clean. If you had any other advice for my clean struggling I would be really happy to hear them and more from someone I admire so much. (kisses from Spain)
Omg I tried the hock snatch ! Supper support feeling . Thank you champ ☺️ fyi , its the first time i see one of ur youtube videos , for sure ill watch u more Cheers
Love your vlogs. My clean pulls seem to be getting worse. I am muscling up the bar and can’t seem to get past keeping my arms lose/straight thru the pull.
Easy answer. Once you start using the hook grip, you'll never go back. The question is can you take the pain of holding hundreds of kilos in your hand, making your thumb feel like it is going to snap in half at any moment. Once you get over that hurdle, you are good to go.
I hope you can answer this one. I can dead lift 140 kilos with a normal grip but when I try hook grip I can't keep my thumb in place. It wants to pull out. Is it technique or is there a weakness in my grip I need to work on?
Is there any reason to not maintain a hook grip during the jerk? I don't feel any issue with maintaining it and can use it on both front and back squats as well.
Kris I notice that you rotate your shoulders back. Have you ever had any rotator cuff injuries from doing this/ or does it relieve the stress from the uplift force?
Hey Kristen, in all of the clips you showed I noticed everyone made contact in the clean pretty high up on the thigh instead of in the middle/a bit lower. Why is this? Is this because the weight is just that heavy? New to weightlifting :)
differences in body size and pull style. I tend to make contact on my lower thigh but I also grip fairly close and I tend to make contact prior to reaching my full extension because I don't usually lean way back on my cleans. The further back you lean in your clean the higher the bar will come off. There is even people who pull the bar as high as their hip joints. In the end its what works for you. don't be afraid of making changes if your just learning but give each change some time before writing it off. and as you progress you may even go back to one you had already tried previously that didn't work well but might work great now.
You need to try a green smoothie instead of powders and you won't be able to taste the greens. Half a blender of spinach, some strawberries, blueberries, and banana, and a scoop of strawberry protein mix. Add a half cup of water and couple ice cubes in a vitamix. Good shit!
I got a sample of the cookies and cream protein and it tastes too “artificial”. Like how protein powder used to taste 15 years ago, you know what i mean.
So tried keeping the hook during clean work today, big difference in bar control into my rack. Thanks for the tip
Keith Fine awesome!

Mix your Greens Powder with a shake or a smoothie. That's how I did it.

I always thought you're clean up to the Shelf looked good it was coming out of the hole where I saw struggle. Just an observation 🤠
I give this video two thumbs wrapped around the bar.
How long do use creatine before the necessary stop?

Good Lord, watch Toshiki's leg muscles! Impressive.
Did he injure his right knee? Why does he lay his right leg in that weird way?
I got a sample of the cookies and cream protein and it tastes too “artificial”. Like how protein powder used to taste 15 years ago, you know what i mean.
hi kris ❤️
Was that change due to your recent shoulder injury?
