      Definitely Bev, it's becoming something of a classic look for him. Makes it easier to spot him in a race!

    Wow, what an incredible journey you're on! Watching your training for the South Downs Way 100 has been so inspiring. It's great to see you pushing yourself and making adjustments to your training along the way. I have to say, using a whiteboard to keep track of everything is genius, even if it means reminding yourself to run slower and get better sleep. The views along the North Downs Way 50 look breathtaking. Keep up the fantastic work, and best of luck with your upcoming races. I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines... or should I say, the comment section, hehe! You've got this!

      Thanks so much Mihai. I've really enjoyed this training block and learnt a lot. All that's left to do is race now! I found the whiteboard really useful for remembering those simple messages to remember in training for the week. Hope you're keeping well and thanks for the support 👍

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks James 👍 I've been trying to incorporate more speed hiking into my runs too as I'll been doing a lot of this during the 100! This has certainly helped tsked the strain off the limbs a bit in building up mileage safely. Thanks for checking out the vid!

    That mileage is hugely impressive even without the additional S&C and swimming. I love the way you peel off 30+ mile training runs after work.
    That deep gully is a favourite from watching your routes. Is it called Devil's Ditch?
    And as for those cows... well...

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks both. Definitely pleased to have hit the 3 week taper now starting this week! It's Devil's Dyke. Such a great spot to run and it has some pretty cool mythology behind it too. Rumour has it that the Devil created the Dyke to try and get the water from the sea to flood some local villages, it didn't work luckily as he was disturbed by a cockerel crowing. Lots of cows out and about on the Downs at the moment. But luckily the friendly kind 😀

    • @tworunningbrooms
      @tworunningbrooms ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's an eminently plausible explanation for how the dyke appeared....

    Great training so far. You seem ready! Can’t wait for you to enjoy the SDW100! The 80/20 rule worked really well for my sub 24hr training. Zone 2 training was valuable. Speak Friday mate.

    Sea swimming is a great form of recovery, Ben, I agree. Good exercise too. By the way, sleep is so important! I sometimes nap deeply for from 40mins to an hour just before an evening run, makes a massive difference for me, works like a gel boost or even better. Your countryside down there is gorgeous. It was cool to see the runners on North Downs 50. Flute playing in the forest is just a magical sight! When is your big ultra?

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny you say that Olga, just had a nap this afternoon to get some rest in before running this evening! It really helps with recovery for sure. Two and a half weeks now until race day so I've just started to taper!

    great work Ben, that run you did looked absolutely stunning! 7:27 is picture postcard perfect! 👌🏻 I must get myself down that way again and do some more beautiful runs (much as I like Oxford, it's certainly not as beautiful as the south coast!) really look forward to seeing how your race in a few weeks goes, you will absolutely smash it i'm sure. :) x

      @@timeonfeet west sussex is about 2 hours ish away so not actually too far to contemplate making a trip for a long run actually (not sure why i've not thought about that before!). Training not terrible, did my first big 50km race last week, it didn't go to plan but I got it done and things to learn from so all in all not too bad. Next one up is RTTS 50km in 7 weeks.. eek! x

    Hi Ben. I'm still watching so you may yet have mentioned this but I was wondering how your training runs, especially longer ones, tend to look in terms of running vs walking.
    Do you walk some or most of the hills, does it depend on heart rate etc?
    Great work with peak week training 👍🏻🏃‍♂️

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark. I typically walk all the hills unless it's a very gentle gradient and mostly run the flats and downhills. There were a few times for this run where my heart rate went into zone 3 even on flats so took a 30 second or so walking break for that part, but otherwise running

    Hi Ben. Thanks for a great video as always. Please could you share the name of that niggle in your vein you were dealing with, and the name of the cream you got from your doctor?

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paulmulks Not usually but for summer runs where the trails are hard packed then I sometimes used road instead when I'm feeling like a lighter shoe with more breathability. These were good overall, you feel it on the soles of your feet a bit more towards the end of the run when they're over 20 miles but generally good levels of comfort
