I just arrived in Sydney nsw currently living at Cabramatta. Do you know a facebook group or people who could help with fishing around NSW (style of fishing, spots, laws)? I used to do ultralight shore casting, and light tackle bottom fishing back in the Philippines.
Hi Kirby, I mainly fish the ocean ledges. They all have their days and fish equally well if you fish them enough and get in rhythm with it. Half the adventure is exploring and learning each spot. I don't name spots because I have a lot of respect for the crew who fish these spots regularly

It’s good that you don’t name spots Bugsy! But honestly, there’s no secret location in Sydney. It’s how keen you wanna get out to explore which is the best part of Sydney. Rock fishing is hardest at best and you gotta get lucky those pelagics come around. Kirby, try chase winter fish right now. I’ve been out 3 weekends in a row and we’ve caught a lot of drummer and groper. Find some ledges with cunji, weed and white wash. Burley up and have some fun. When season ends… go back to pelagic

Cheers Felix, in this video I was using 20lb braid with 20lb fluorocarbon leader with a 5000 size Stradic FL reel and a Penn Prevail 2 9'6" 10-15kg rod. I was targeting those smaller pelagics so it worked fine. I upgrade to 44lb braid and 40lb leader when the fish are a bit bigger
The set up I use the most is a PE2-4 rod with a 6000 size reel and PE 3 Daiwa 12 strand braid with a 40lb monofilament leader. I think it covers most situations. Of course, there will be very rare occasions when a huge kingfish smokes you on that gear haha
What set up do you use? im thinking of getting some heavier gear to fish in deeper water like this. I dont think my estuaryset up will handle anything too big
Hi Tom, the set up I use most for lure fishing off the ocean rocks is a 9'8" PE2-4 Ocean's Legacy Specialist rod with a 6000 size high speed reel, PE3 braid, 40-60lb monofilament leader. It is pretty good for most pelagic fish you will encounter in Sydney. However, if you want to target bigger kingfish I would recommend a 14000 size reel with PE6 braid and 100lb ish leader and a rod to suit in the 9-10ft range. Hope that helps mate
Im looking to get a 4-8 kg rod with a 4000 reel spooled with 20 lb braid….. would you say this is a good medium off the rocks combo for bonito, rat kings and mac tuna… ect
Hi mate, yes sounds good. However, I would go for the 5000 size reel for 20lb braid as it has more line capacity. The only difference in the 4000 and 5000 Stradic for example is the spool capacity and 5 grams difference in weight. Always good to have the extra line for that one in a million strike from a big tuna or something
Hi Alby, I mix it up to see what is working on the day. Wind it fast, really fast, wind it slow, tweak the rod tip to make the lure swim more erratically, and a combination of those with little pauses added in and let it sink to different levels of the water column too to work the whole area. Still a few bonito around and mack tuna. Water is still pretty warm. My mate fished the harbour a few days ago. Said it was slow but caught a bonito on the tide change

Catching Sgt Baker when spinning for pelagics - I threw plenty back thinking they were inedible before someone told me how good they are to eat. Delicious white flesh once you get rid of the bones.
Really?! Might have to try one in some fish tacos. Yeah, I was trying to slow roll the lure along the bottom in attempt to mix it up and see if I could catch something different - hoping a Cobia eats my lure one day

With Sgt Bakers, I notice it's always when I let my metal sink too much that I accidentally nail one. You can see from their shape they feed from the bottom so maybe a weedless plastic on a heavy jig could make them as a legitimate target? I've tried to change my mindset about "rubbish fish" lately. btw - really enjoyed your Luderick

That's the Stradic FL I'm referring to. Also, has a round handle but the body is the same size as the 4000 Stradic FL
