  • This all-encompassing documentary produced by TrainMasters TV takes you back to when we launched our company in 2015 and features the development process for our very first HO Scale locomotive: Union Pacific 8500hp “Big Blow” Turbine locomotive. During the premiere, you’ll have an opportunity to connect with us in the live chat where you can ask questions about our company, models, and discuss the documentary with fellow viewers.

    It is unbelievable how much goes into building some of the models. Thanks for the detailed work you all do designing the specifications and overseeing production. The level of quality is outstanding. I really like the turbine starting and stopping. Over the last few years the sounds coming from model railroad rolling stock has become so good. I consider myself lucky to live only a short way from Deshler, NE and Spring Creek Model Trains where I can see and touch these items and marvel in the details. I am brand new to the hobby and looking forward to years of joy engaged in it.

    I don't know the quality of the UP turbine HO model, but the video production is absolutely excellent! The inclusion of Chinese scenery from a passenger train was really elemental portraying the switch to Chinese high quality production.. The lighting of brass machining was excellent. This video makes me want to buy a Scale trains UP turbine HO model even though I work in Z-scale and like the animation of gauge 1 trains.

I just don’t do well in cramped spaces since we expected hundreds of people to come to your visit at the club. So glad you men are thriving in your business. If you recall, I mentioned that it would be wise to set up for an alternate country to build your models, like India. China is now entering an economic war with the U.S. and other countries which was bound to happen. Hopefully things will settle down and business can proceed as usual. Or, maybe you’re in the position now to build your own factory at least in a small way to test feasibility.
    Thanks again and all my best.

    He started modeling right after scale Trains would’ve started, and I had no idea who they were. I had got rid of all of my O gauge and started with the HO the first engine I bought was a CSX T4 from scale trains. I remember being amazed how heavy it was compared to a couple others I had bought and the detail and quality.
    And now I have roughly 45 engines and probably over 100 cars from them. Watching this video I do not model UP but might consider buying one of those. That is amazing product.

Obviously this kind of detail and expertise is costly but the joy and satisfaction makes the price worthwhile for the collector. I'm a packaging engineer/designer and have worked with many companies that have the exact horror stories of working with China and not getting stuff correct and having to air freight the correct parts to get them as fast as possible. I know you can't beat the price on having tooling made and the labor for getting things made in China. Sucks this can't be done in the USA, but it would cost you right out of the market. It's great that ScaleTrains has been able to start a successful model train business. I am a fan of ScaleTrains products and have purchased many that fit my late 70's - early 80's Rio Grande and SP modeling, particularly the tunnel motors and SD45's. I'm hoping ScaleTrains gets around soon to doing the common SP SD45 with the L windshield and high-mount brake cylinders. My chief worry is, with China becoming more bellicose and hostile to the world, that ScaleTrains is depending on a country that might get shut off for model train production should China follows through with invasion of Taiwan. China seems dead set on an invasion so I'm not sure how model train production would continue in that event. If only there was another country where model train production could be shifted to.

New intermodal well cars are too especially the last what 5-7 years now. Gentlemen: I am going to give you a million-dollar idea, which EVERYONE has missed - perhaps 2 or 3 ideas. The first: take a moment and rail fan a real train. The power units, the cars - they are (generally) covered in grease and grime, GRAFITTI and spillage from various rolling stock and some minor damage - and RUST. Everything, well almost everything is weathered. ALL, and I do mean ALL of these wonderful model railroads are running around with pristine units - which appear that they have just left the manufacturing shop. It's UNREALISTIC. it makes these very expensive railroads appear toy-like, amateurish - just not real. Someone, some company needs to either come out with GRAFITTI stencils or stick-ons or with prepainted cars that are covered with GRAFITTI. My second idea: many/most of the rolling stock today has plastic wheels: listen to them as they click and clank across the tracks - once again, extremely toy-like and unreal. The wheels need to be made of metal - to acquire that realistic clickity-clack sound. My final point would be - could there be, should there be a way to weigh down, you know, to add a load to the rolling stock. Precast aluminum or steel bars which can easily be added to rolling stock. Watch the rolling stock on these million-dollar home model railroads: the cars shake and wiggle - it's funny, it's a joke. The rolling stock needs to have some weight to them - and they don't. I guess that my final thought would be to have electric or magnetic uncouplers for the rolling stock and power units. I see men pointing skewer sticks between the cars to disconnect them - is this really the best we can do? Ok, well keep up the great work. I'd also like to see miniature CAMERAS in the cabs of the power units: now wouldn't this take model railroading to the next level? Drive/control the trail with a view out the front of the lead power unit?? Wonderful.

      Railroads are very protective of their corporate image. They are unlikely to license the use of their logo to a company that's going to fade that logo and cover it with rust and grime.

      You do realize that all your ideas have already been done for many years and are freely available? You said that everyone has missed these ideas and not one thing you've said is a new idea, some having been around for over 100 years. Also, who are you to denigrate toy trains and call any efforts to be amateurish? Maybe you should get off your high horse and actually have a look at people's efforts, and don't have this self imposed expectation that every model train enthusiast and buyer as having the same aims and desires as what you have.
      Maybe you should have thought more about what you were writing before you wrote it?

    • @randallellison6421
      @randallellison6421 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally, I don't mind my locomotives and rolling stock being pristine and clean. They look great either way, clean or weathered! Also nearly all that stuff you just mentioned is already available to get that look from paint and decal companies. The only thing that really isn't available yet is the Miniature cameras, which I think that's still a few years away before we can get them small enough to not interfere with the locomotive's mechanism. Also virtually all the manufacturers, including Scaletrains, locomotives and rolling stock comes with metal wheels now! If there is anything still equipped with plastic wheels, it'd be the cheaper Bachmann sets, but even those would be the exception rather than the rule! All that being said there's really only 3 rules to model railroading:
      Rule 1: IT'S YOU'RE RAILROAD, BUILD IT YOU'RE WAY!
      Rule 2: MAKE SURE YOUR TRACK WORK AND EQUIPMENT IS IN GOOD OPERATING CONDITION TO AVOID FRUSTRATION DOWN THE LINE!
      Rule 3: THERE ARE NO RULES AFTER RULES 1 & 2!

    • @muir8009
      @muir8009 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@randallellison6421 well said Mr Ellison. I tend to feel some seem to forget that modeling is a personal enjoyment, with personal interests. I personally feel that a warbonnet F unit is absolutely supreme in majesty, and look just as good sitting, gleaming or in any state, it's a glorious piece of transportation art.
      In the thirties lionel of course had their flying yankee which they rightfully chromed. They looked like what they were: shining examples of the highest tech available.
      Speaking of lionel, they marketed a few decades ago their railscope, where a camera was mounted in the front (obviously!!!) And it transmitted the picture to a screen. Tech was a bit deficient 20 odd years ago so it's not stunning, but they do pop up on Ebay every so often. If I'm honest with you I've seen the loco cameras in action and I'm a little amiss as to the point. It seems to just emphasize the extreme curvature that even the most generously proportioned layout actually has due to the visual perspective, and it's just too reminiscent of looking at a computer game...

Heck if you take in all aspects it really would be that much cause the price may be lower but you’ve got higher shipping and handling, longer times, products break after minimal use if your lucky not to receive the item broken or parts missing. Let’s not even bring up trying to read instruction manuals or dealing with customer service. I’m willing to pay extra and I do just to do without the nightmare.
