They're definitely not lacklustre. They still look beautiful. It would be nice if photographers still did this type of stuff. Or do they?

Hi Ted, this one of the best photo channels on You Tube, I love it! And thanks to share your point of view and about the work of the masters like Brassai, Avedon and others. People today are worried about buy the newest model cameras and forget that study and learn are the most important.

I'm doing a research project on Brassai for photography class, and I have to emulate one of his photos. This video sort of gave an idea of what I'd like to do

The best work of Brassaï is about the underworld of Paris in the thirties, night bars, cafés and brothels.

I also love how if you take the off the dustcover and hold it up to the light you can see Brassaï's name pressed on to the cover.

I'm just starting out you can say in photography. I would shoot almost anything. I had yet to find myself a certain subject to stick to, Id do Flowers, Nature, animals, Long exposure water& light painting. I was assigned to mimic a well known photographer and Brassai was an option. I fell in love with B&W night photos, they are mostly what I shoot today. I looked up to his photos for auite some time.

Absolutely love Brassai. I read somewhere that all of his photos of people in them were staged. Is that true? I am not a photographer.

Brassaï shot with a Voigtländer Bergheil folding plate camera. The one I’ve seen him standing behind looks to be a 6.5x9 with a Rada roll film back to shoot 6x9 negatives. The lens was probably a 10.5cm f4.5 Skopar or Helios, but definitely uncoated in either case. Part of the “look” of these old, pre-war images is from the glass not having any anti-reflective coatings.

I feel like I definitely do wanna put myself there, while looking at these images. But you gotta do a lot more work because of the image quality.

He was Hungarian. There is no such thing as Transylvanian... it's the region of today's Romania that used to belong to Hungary until Hungary lost most of its land after World War 1. His name Gyula Halász is totally Hungarian.

Transylvania is not a country is a region of Romania. At the time of Brassai's birth it was part of Austro-Hungarian empire :). I with americand would stop regarding Transylvania as a country....
