  • Have you ever wanted to cut your own stencil, grabbed a piece of transparency, and then started cutting only for your hand to cramp up and get frustrated when you accidentally cut the stencil where you didn't want to?
    My new video shows the easiest way to cut your own stencils without the use of a die cutting machine. I learned this technique from Laura Lidstone (aka the Artistic Pagan), so check her out...the link is below.

    OMG... Thank you soooo much! ...I am getting ready to do a Book Binding Cover for my "Billy the Kid: Little Black Book of Secrets" book ... the first 50 books will be signed and numbered with real leather and gold leaf lettering... I have searched how to do the raised lettering, (it will be of a Western Font)... but to do so many book covers, I need to do a stencil... and free hand cutting it, was out of the question!!! This method (burning the stencil) is fantastic! ... I don't want the lettering perfect anyway, I want it to look a little ragged, since it will have 1881 in the top corner also... You have made my day... You are a God send!!! ..."Thank you".... P.S. also Thank you for not having annoying music in the background while you're doing your tutorial... ;) ... I want to listen to the person "Teaching" in the Video... ;)

    Thanks. I cut one today with my Silhouette. I think they are coming out with some material just for stencils. I have old overhead film and it is not real sturdy. It is fun to have your own. I really like the shape you make. Thanks again for sharing.

    Another good stencil maker is hot glue...use a rubber mat and make a design on it, let dry and peel off....now you have a stencil for making cards, pics or whatever you want

    Wootie hoo!! I literally ordered one of those tools earlier today!!! I am so excited to make my own stencils. I cringe when I see that a small stencil is 3 or more dollars and the larger ones are 5 or more and can go way up from there. I don't need PERFECT stencils cuz I don't do PERFECT art! PS... I love you... hehe. Hope school is going well! Hugs!!

    I did see this done once before and am so glad you did this video as a reminder. I think the investment in the tool is a whole lot cheaper that the money I'm putting out in stencils!! (although I do love them and will buy more.) This technique allows for so much creativity though!! Love your videos. Keep on doin' em OK?

    I bought one of those wood burning walnut hollow tools as well but it didnt come with that extra pointy tip :( My question though...I found when I used it it seemed to burn way too much. I couldnt make a straight line because it melted it more than I would want to so it was more like a blobby line, if that makes sense lol. It would also melt back together before I could even remove the cut piece. It was a mess. Could it be due to the material I'm using to make my stencil from? I use those plastic divider folders you buy in packs. I tried to get the thicker ones. Cutting it out with an xacto is a breeze, but the heat tool melts the heck out of it. The tool also smokes when it's on as though it is heating up way too much. (even the gold tip started turning dark after 1 use) *shrugs*. I'm still learning with all this art journaling stuff. Thanks so much in advance if you have any tips for me. :) P.S. Love your work.

    I use plastic dividers that you can get anywhere (stock up on them when school supplies go on sale) the great thing about them is you can label the little tab and you don't have to 3 hole punch them :)

    • @KissMyCreative
      @KissMyCreative 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used the same thing and my heat tool seemed to melt it way too much as I was trying to trace my design. Even melted back together before I could remove the cut pieces. Does this happen to you when you use the dividers? I figured it was because they were too thin.

    • @relicsong
      @relicsong 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a damp rag to cool and clean the tool if it seems to be melting way too much I'v never had it melt back together on me.

    • @ImperfectImpulses
      @ImperfectImpulses  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have. I've used Krylon Easy-Tak. The only problem I've encountered is that intricate designs can tear because the adhesive is pretty strong even though it's repositionable. I recommend sticking the stencils to your shirt a few times so that it's not so sticky. You can always re-spray if it isn't sticky enough after that.
