      @@PeteJohnsMusic Do you know of any options to do a similar rig with Android that actually does work? I'm thinking of burying an Android tablet in the dash of my car, and hooking up an external camera/mic for Skype, and perhaps also an external forward facing thermal imager for night vision assistance... Yes I could do it with an in-car PC running Windows or Linux or whatever, with a touchscreen display instead of a tablet buried in the dash, but I want to keep it relatively simple.

I tried to figure that out back then. Now I am wondering if a hdmi capture card will take the video to my lightning-iPad via usb-to-lightning adaptor.... still wondering...

    First off the port next to the usb on the adaptor accepts a male lightening cable which is used to charge your phone while plugged in and using the adaptor interface such as how i use mine in mirroring the display to my car dvd player or any monitor/ tv and the devices dont have to be smart to do that. Ok so the adaptor plugs into phone, usb port to camera, other lightening female port on the adaptor goes to an apple charging cable to an apple power cube littke white block.. this will power both the phone for charging and power tge camera.. the photo apps wont display the webcsm video but there are video mirroring apps that do. Also if you have an apple tv it will let you AirPlay it through to the iphone. The new ios13 actually has this feature biilt in with its usb3.0 interface.. thats why it doesn't work on the hub as its a usb2.0 with only the 4 wires (white, red green black.. the wh/gr are the two data signal wires with red/blk as +\-. The usb 3.0 uses 6 wires whicj allow for usb networking with devices... so yea.. theres the titties..

    Hi Pete. Since I'm an avid android/windows user a lot of times your videos don't relate to me, but I thought I'd check this one out just out of interest. You'd think with where technology is at and how popular tablets/ipads are that we would have jumped this hurdle by now and they would be compatible with external cameras. Surely would be cool! Think this has to be something that will be sorted in the future! Imagine being able to just take an iPad/tablet and a webcam out, away from the house and stream with a reasonably good quality camera! I mean sure you can use a phone, but most of the time you can get better quality from a 1080p hd webcam.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true! I know the phone and tablet manufacturers want you to use their built in cameras, which are getting pretty good. But as you know from your live streaming, sometimes being able to position a camera more precisely would be really handy.
      As more tablets are using things like USB-C and enabling more connections, hopefully we will get there! What do you use for your 360 videos? Those are very cool.

There are apps that can handle externel streams, like RTSP/MPEG-TS/Multicast or Unicast and IOS allready supports UAC (USB Audio Class), but there is no support of UVC (USB Video Class) Webcams. That might be, cause the lightning connector only supports 480 MBit. USB-C on Ipad Pros supports more. So, hopefully it will be supported in the near future.

I was hoping to go so far as to make a Google Cardboard-esque display for it, but haven't had the time.
