- SOLVED 10-Month-Old Missing Persons Case...(Margaret "Jan" Shupe Smith) In this video I meet up with a group of searchers to search and solve the missing person case of Margaret Jan Shupe. Together we spent 2 days searching various ponds and waterways and on February 2, 2022, we were able to provide the answers needed for Jan's family. Remains in the vehicle found still are needed to be analyzed before confirmation can be made that Jan has been brought home. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jan's family during this difficult time.
▶️ Details Of Disappearance: Margaret Shupe Smith is missing her preferred name is "Jan" age 59 height 5'5". Jan was last seen 4-2-21 on the NORTH side of Lakeland Florida around 7:30PM driving a 2012 Moss Green Kia Soul license plate number JLQ-A90 after being seen by security cameras at a nearby Publix.

Polk County Sheriffs Office great job working together with these groups for a common goal to get closure for the families. Unfortunately that’s not always the case. But, as they get more media attention and departments realizing these are trained individuals who just want to help for FREE! To all those departments that are supportive, a sincere thank you from all of us who support these efforts.

I will add, someone that was a civilian and worked with Law Enforcement as a 911 Supv for over 25 years, once you have the trust of that agency, you are golden. It’s very difficult in some places to get that trust because they can be very guarded and territorial. Especially in todays climate. So I admire the reputation you and the others like AWP have built. It’s super important you surround yourself with trustworthy people and are in it for the right reasons. Keep up the GREAT WORK. I will continue to support this team!

I just wanted to tell you and your team thank you too. I was the family member that contacted AWP,(Mr Carter is my dad) I sent a email knowing it was a shot in the dark. My dad got the honor of thanking you all personally, but I wanted to tell you guys, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I like to think her being found gave her spirit a measure of peace when found.

Polk County's Sheriff Grady Judd is all about his citizens.. He says some crazy stuff but he gets the job done.. love that man and his mission
That’s the truth!
You met members of the finest law enforcement agency in the country. The officers from the sheriff down to the corrections officers are simply the best. All of the officers in that department are held to a higher standard.
Wow the police were so responsive and positive and wanted the case be resolved. This was an absolute joy to see them work with you guys and not against you’re cause! There has been other times and I was sad cause some seemed like hands were tied, or they didn’t seem interested or even some weird control on it and ego trips. Thank you cops seeing that these guys just want to help and bring closure to families and help you guys move in to the next missing persons. Very well done proud of all of you guys for this and the proud of the cops being empathetic and open!

I knew Jan Shupe when I was in college in Lakeland. I'm so glad you found her.
You can tell that Polk County has great leadership with Grady Judd. It shows in the absolute confidence of the people below him & the way they treat AWP.

This is a sad ending to a beautiful life. Although she was having a rough day, I am sure this is not how she intended to end her day. Everyone needs to have a window breaker in their car!!! That water was so shallow. The green, yuckiness of the water is the only reason the car was so well hidden. They said she didn't see well at night. This was a horrible accident.

I lost my "big baby brother" to suicide/accidental overdose. My heart goes out to her family. My brother was getting mental healthcare yet his Psychiatrist didn't listen. My heart aches, I'm glad her family now has her to have somewhat peace. As a survivor of suicide, there will be so many unanswered questions.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I’ve lost loved ones to suicide as well. I don’t think there is any answer to a question that could bring understanding. As someone who suffers from depression and suicidal thoughts, it’s very hard to describe the despair that comes with that. It becomes such a challenge to hide, or to function. Sometimes there just isn’t a lot you can do. It’s very painful to feel this way, and there’s only so much pain a person can take. If only they realized that they’re passing that pain onto those left behind....

I applaud Polk County Sheriff’s office for coordinating this recovery on the “fly” like this, with such short notice. It was an amazing effort. Looks very professional, very efficient. I’m sure the family appreciates that, as well as the public. My heart goes out to the family. I suffer from depression. When I hear of people who have lost all hope and give up their hold on life, it touches me deeply. It’s hard to hear that anyone could be in so much despair. I hope the family realizes that’s it’s an illness that causes this. It’s not anything they did. It’s not that they weren’t loved. If I lived in those houses I would find it so unsettling to know this poor woman was right outside their door, basically, in this neighborhood pond. I’m so glad she was found, but terribly sad that she was in there. My deepest condolences to the family.

What a great example of the coordination between your dive teams and the Polk County Sheriffs office. Another cold case has been brought to closure for a family missing a loved one. I dove years ago and can only set back in admiration of what you folks do and a big shout out to all who help support these dive teams. I like when the officers are appreciative and glad you are helping them. I still remember that one a-hole who had a stick up his butt, telling the family that their son was probably "over in Georgia with some girl". The family was furious and disgusted (rightfully so), that he would say that, when you had located his vehicle right where the family had been trying to get the police to search for months. And the police dive team didn't even acknowledge you guys. It sucks that they had to have an attitude about it. You're not trying to step on any toes or anything; you're just trying to help. It makes a nice change to see police involved and not being jerks to the people who are trying to help them solve cases. They aren't able to dedicate resources and manpower to every case of a missing person, and often don't have the same technology/experience, like you guys do.
I'm glad that they are getting some dive team training, too. This will help the sheriff's office in the future if they have any other cases of vehicles in the water.

This case is just so amazing. How you came in exhausted all your options, kept pushing, got new information, went to the least logical place and boom, you found her. You guys deserve a metal for sure. I just am totally amazed at how AWP and all of you combined keep finding missing loved ones. Prayers for her family.

What a story!! Now the family has closer and peace of mind without wondering what happen, where is Margaret. The family will now have a place they can go see there mother, sister, friend ect.. All because of the teams hard work and persistence. Each and everyone one of you are amazing and the videos you put out not just searching for people are inspiring.
So glad Jan was found. The Police Department that shared to accident report with you was amazing as well. She probably won’t have been found without that information. I am sitting in a parking lot waiting for my dog’s grooming appointment to be done. I was watching this on AWP and as they are pulling Jan’s car out of the pond, I was crying and I looked up from my phone and saw a green Kia Soul drive past me, just like hers!!!
