- MISSING DAD FOUND: 32-year-old Bob Helphrey Found 17 Years After Disappearance (Solved) @Sunshinestatesonar and @ReconDiveRecovery went searching and were able to find Bob Helphrey who has been missing for over 17 years underwater!
The Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the remains found in a car pulled from a Palm Harbor pond last week as those of a man who went missing in 2006.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said Friday the medical examiner’s office has confirmed that the bones found April 14 in a gray Mitsubishi on the 200 block of Old Oak Circle were those of 34-year-old Robert Helphrey.
After working a closing shift at the Thirsty Marlin in Palm Harbor in May 2006, Helphrey went across the street to Peggy O’Neill’s Irish Pub & Eatery with some co-workers, according to newspaper reports from around the time he went missing. On the drive home, Helphrey invited a friend to meet him at his apartment in Palm Harbor. But he never made it home.
Law enforcement searched several ponds and wooded areas for Helphrey and his car at the time but never found them.
The Sunshine State Sonar Search team - a volunteer group that works with law enforcement to locate missing people, vehicles and vessels - found Helphrey’s car in the pond and alerted the sheriff’s office, who pulled the vehicle from the retention pond last week.
Helphrey’s cause of death still is under investigation, authorities said. #missingperson #solved #scubadiving

Sunshine State Sonar and Recon DR are on fire. They have solved four cold cases so far this year. I wonder what else the waters of Florida are hiding. Thank you for bringing their work to a wider audience.
There's so much water in Florida. There are probably hundreds of missing person cases that can be solved by sonaring all of them - though that's a massive task. They're doing great work!!
I think the key to their success is that they just keep working the same cases, looking in every possible location until they find them. My understanding is that these are cases they've been working for 6-12 months.

File a complaint against the public officials that weren't professional. They work for "We the People" and they need to remember that.
Water treatment is not something you can just go to the town hall and make a complaint about. They fall under private sector - built and ran, billed by the municipality to the users of their services, and protected by the PATRIOT Act.
Further, if you were a supervisor of the plant and had some 20-something year old kid say "I want to sonar this water for this case." How would you take it?
@derekelliott6098 in my area water treatment is 100% run by the municipality and has been my whole life. It might be different in this case. As a supervisor of a plant...the water already would have had sonar run multiple times per year to look for any foreign bodies.
@@CleaningUpAmerica Water treatment, reclamation, desalinization, dams, etc are governed by the EPA, Dept of Conservation and Resources, Department of the Interior, and Fish and Wildlife. Exceptions would be local reservoirs with local funded "water filtering" systems - colloquially known as preservation - to be used to keep the water cleaner for the wildlife and flora.

@@saintsefo4763 Mike is not a TH-camr and has publicly stated he has no intention of doing so. He is entrusting me to produce the long form content, and I have comments turned on. We catch just as much criticism from internet sleuths and Monday morning quarter backs as we catch support, so he leaves comments off and plans to keep it that way. He does look at Facebook comments.

It is a rare moment to see Britain in that state after talking to officials and his tears of frustration are an indication of the stress these guys place upon themselves in their quest to find missing loved ones.

It’s like you can’t help but cry but then get more angry that you’re crying!! It’s OK Britain, it means you are sensitive and compassionate which is a blessing compared to meanies like the dude at the water treatment facility! I find it disturbing that a WATER TREATMENT PLANT wouldn't want to know whether or not a car with all its pollution and even, potentially, human remains, is in their water!! Knowing this, do YOU want to drink that water?! Good lord. 😬🤦

You would think a water treatment plant would not want a fuel and oil filled vehicle with a possible missing person in it to be deteriorating in the water.
Doesn't matter who found him but that he was found. Thank all of you for caring enough to put long hard days in trying to find loved ones that are missing. ❤🙏
It is so sad that he was found dead , but I am glad that he his body was found so his family can have some type of closure and he can have a proper burial .
I personally think that you definitely should sonar places that have already been checked by sonar because you guys absolutely know what you’re doing. It’s really sad that city officials and LE have to ruffle their feathers or puff up their chests when someone is trying to help them. I’m glad that not all LE are like that.

Wow, I live just a couple blocks from the pond where he was found. I pass by it all the time and often glance at it as I drive by because it's a nice pond and great neighborhood. Grateful he was found. Nice job to everyone involved.
I live a few blocks from this body of water and I drive by it multiple times a day and I'm always looking at it to see if I can spot wildlife, mainly alligators, I would have never thought there was a car submerged in it. Thank you for bringing Bob home and giving his grieving family closure. I personally thank you all, for all that you do and for all that you will do for families in the future.😊

It breaks my heart that they would treat you so badly, when you're trying to find someone's loved one! My motherly instinct gets triggered, seeing you get upset because of being disrespected by someone who works for us, the tax payers! I guarantee that if someone much older went to speak with them, he wouldn't have disrespected them! Viewers would like to know who his boss is, or who to call to let them know how he treated a member of the public. You should have recorded your meeting. If it's a government facility and he's a government employee, you have a right, under the 1stamendment, to record him at his job, on property tax payers pay for! Why is it behind a gate?
It may not be his youth, some have terrible people skills. It is a water treatment facility and needs to be protected, as this is the community's water

I work for public services and guess what..I pay taxes too.. just like him, and every other government official. Everyone pays their due taxes. It really is a ludicrous statement .

Brit thank you for all of the time and effort that you personally put into this case. I’m proud that Sunshine State Sonar Search Team were finally able to bring answers to his family but there were many others including yourself who put a lot of time and effort into searching for him. I remember when your video first came out of your first search with the water treatment plant and it was heartbreaking for me to watch someone treat you so unkindly when all you were trying to do is give a missing loved one’s family answers that they so deserve and need. I get the red tape but it never gives someone the right to treat someone the way they treated you that day. That has always bothered me and I have often prayed for that person and hope that they are never in that position where they have a loved one missing and are at the mercy of others to search for answers. At the end of the day it worked out and this father, son, friend can be laid to rest. My sincerest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. May they find peace in having answers after 17 long years. To you Brit, thank you once again for your hard work, dedication and the way you handle things. You’re a super upstanding guy. Keep up the good work. You will go far in life. Stay safe♥️

Thank you for all your efforts to bring lost loved ones home. I really enjoy your videos. The only bad thing is, sometimes I have to close my eyes when the water is choppy because I get seasick. Even standing on a dock on a fairly calm day. Lol. Thanks again.
