This was a good friend of mine back in high school. We went to local programs together (hang out and have fun). Also, his Uncle John and my mom are good friends. Thank you guys for your work. RIP Dedrick
Can you imagine how many people are presumed missing, but ended up in bodies of water never to be recovered. What you do is awesome and I pray you continue for a very long time.
@@Scorpiondethbite why can't they expand their business to all the states in America. Every state will have a teames doing the same thing he's doing But under his leadership. @@ahigherqualityco yes, I agree with the fact of bringing the families the answers they so deeply need to help them a lil easier to move forward. I can feel the pain the families feel and I can feel your dedication to help in bringing the families loved one/ ones home, now he/ they can be put to rest properly where the family can go to put flowers and celebrate their loved ones life! I cry everytime! Sometimes I really wish I wasn't so emotional about things! Y'all be safe in your travels and searches! Till next time I'll be binge watching your videos!!
I don’t know why but every time they say „We just found…“ or pull the car out of the water it feels like the soul of this person is finally able to ‘cross over‘ and rest. Gives me chills every time… Admiring all the hard work and dedication!! Thank you really !!
@@katievb9 Why do you think that? If a truth like that exists then it has to be absolute and I'm sure you have good reason to believe that? The Words of God recorded in the Bible record that once a man dies, then comes the judgment. He either goes to heaven or hell, depending on his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Gospel of John (an eyewitness account of Jesus' life and words) talks a lot about this.
The fact that they find these victims almost always within a 5 mile radius makes me question how hard the police looked. If they do not have the resources or the skill set then the government needs to provide funding rather than sending millions of dollars to god knows what. The fact that these men find them within a day is just mind baffling. These families deserve a real investigation and closure.
Lack of funding, but also the problem that it requires spezialised training to do what these guys do. Training and regular recertification. Most rural PDs probably don't see the need for the few cases they get. And/or have trouble finding the people willing to do it, as you would need at least two or three (diver and spotter).
My ex-husband suffered from schizophrenia and it is truly a tragic disease. The problem is many schizophrenics don’t acknowledge that they have a problem and therefore don’t seek treatment. My ex was in his 60s before he got treatment. So many many years suffering because his disease convinced him he was fine and didn’t need help. His paranoia finally destroyed our marriage. Tragic and very very sad.
@@gaylelee1999and modern medicine works so well for it aswell. The problem ive encountered is once the medicine starts working they stop taking it and for ever time it works a little less
I totally agree! I seen a different video (not this channel) where the car was snatched out of the water so hard and fast the body fell out of the windshield when it detached. A Horrible sight.
What I find astonishing is that this young man was missing for 16 years and this team finds his car in just a couple days. Hopefully this will change search procedures when it comes to missing people and their vehicles.
Not really. It costs a lot of money and time to hire dive teams to investigate - as well as the equipment to do it. This is the main reason this guy does it for free just as a volunteer.
Which is why we must help this team by watching, commenting and joining. I just joined last night and hope my small monthly donation helps them continue this amazing work ❤️❤️❤️
This made me cry. As a mother I can’t imagine 16 years of not knowing. I’m sure you believe they are gone, but now you know. And she has her baby back to give him a proper resting place. God bless his family. And, God bless these amazing volunteers. You change lives. Awesome.
It’s insane to me how people can go missing for so many years when they’re practically right there, sometimes not even outside of county lines.it’s genuinely very upsetting and disturbing. Rip Dedrick, you will be missed.
@@sassafraspaul7528 then you should know after working in the legal field, supposedly, that investigators first take into account all possible considerations.
Sadly most police no longer have the man power or the equipment or the time. Remember all the defunding? There are still some really good officers out there. Stop bad mouthing all of them and start being part of the solution instead.
I only just discovered this channel yesterday. But as I watched more I began to realize that I very nearly became one of these lost people. I used to live in Pensacola, FL, and I used to drive over the route 90 bridge every day to get to work. At that time I was suffering from severe depression, living in an abusive house I developed suicidal thoughts. Every day when I drove to work, I thought "Would anyone find me if I just drove off the bridge into the river at 4 in the morning?" If you know anything about Pensacola, you know there's hundreds of boat ramps everywhere. Almost every night, late at night, I left the house just to go sit at a boat ramp, contemplating if I should just put the car in drive into the water and sink. I dealt with this for almost 2 years before I finally left to a different state. Now that I am discovering this channel, it makes me think: If I had done it, would I have ever been found? Would I have been another lost person? Luckily I will never know because I am in a much better mind state than I was over a year ago, and I have healed and sought help. If you ever find yourself in the same position I was in, don't do it. You are loved and people will want to find you alive and safe.
I feel like you set peoples souls free when you lift the cars out of the water. I just feel this huge sense of relief and closure watching your videos. God knew we needed a team like yours & here you are.
Doug is my favorite diver, his respect for the deceased and for the family is incredibly compassionate. You’re outspoken albeit also respectful intolerance to the complacency of people who do not question the signs of the missing, you’re simply a decent human being!
Hi Kelley Mank, Just wanted to say I could not agree more with you. Doug is such a natural & caring man. Total respect ✊🏼 for Doug but also all the team & families. Sending love 💕, peace ✌️ & light 💡 to you xoxo - England
It definitely helps make the authorities look better instead of the ones who act like absolute a-holes and makes their entire department look bad and is horrible for community relations… it warms my heart when the local authorities truly appreciate these guys hard work and skills…. They are able to put aside their own egos and understand the value of bringing a family answers…. Especially given these groups are volunteering their time ….
Yes I believe cooperating with local LE is essential for the proper recovery of the victims. This show has been fantastic for the mutual support and respect given. I am so sorry for the family but also happy that they have resolution of their loved one. God bless you AWP such a beautiful search and recovery 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
I'm sorry I only give that a thumbs down because the police could not find this young man in all those years nor did they even care to but this recovery team found him and his car in a couple of days, I'll say again the police/authorities are useless.
@@charlesblackman1236 You’re acting as though every single small, local police department receives the funding to have all of this specialized equipment and the ability for special training, certification and insurance regarding underwater search and recovery. They don’t.

The way the car turned and faced him when it was pulled up completely out of water was like Mr.smith was saying thank you for finding me. God Bless you brother
Wow that’s a good observation. It really seems like that and the way it turned slowly. That part is always so emotional when you actually see the vehicle.
This is really sad to think he was down there all alone for 16 years. Well done you guys for finding him for his family. Cool car Dedrick...and it kept you safe all this time.
Your post is so appreciated. My grandfather had mental health problems and was found in a canal in Miami after 6 days all alone in January 2021. I feel selfish being so down that he was down there after 6 days and there are people that will never be discovered. However, Through the sorrow after watching these videos, I’m blessed we at least had closure sooner than many many other families.
The way you all hold the missing person flyer up multiple times throughout the search shows how much you respect the victim and family.. thank you for all you do!! ❤️
I Am just blown away , by what a few youtube influencers have been able to accomplish , when the entire law enforcement apparatus couldn't , or wouldn't do.... And you guys continue to do it over and over.... This simply shows the difference in a passion , versus a job.... Thanks For All you guys do...
I don’t think the local authorities are always inept and without compassion and care for these missing persons cases but you are right that there are more than there should be…. I think in the last year authorities have come to trust and appreciate these groups… and take advantage of their expert skills at this. I think early on the authorities just saw them as guys just wanting TH-cam hits and notoriety, saw them as interfering and disrespecting the families but now actually understand what their purpose is and actually can’t prevent them from searching because it would just make them look so incredibly bad in the community’s eyes….
I was not aware of AWP until I happened to see an episode on TH-cam. I could not stop watching other episodes because I was so impressed with AWP. The fact that you guys do this work free of charge, and I can also see that you really care about the people who you are searching for, as well as their family members, is something that is rarely seen these days. It is so refreshing to know that there are people like you guys who really care. Thank you for helping those who otherwise may never know what happened to their love ones and may God continue to bless your efforts.
Those moments when the vehicles get lifted and the remains are freed from their watery tombs... gets me EVERY time. The families, their heartbreak, and their relief. I hope to never know that pain. Dedrick Smith- May he rest in peace. AWP - Those unsung heroes who are finally getting the recognition they've earned. 😍
Doug is without question one of the most respectful and empathetic people I have ever witnessed address and deal with the loss of human life. Adventures With Purpose is doing a most amazing act of humanity for those with missing loved ones. I continue to be impressed with act of service that they provide.
Short and sweet statement, and so true. Sometimes with other people/groups you feel like they’re trying too hard to look empathetic. It’s completely cringe. But Doug shows his feelings through his eyes, yet still upholds that alpha male demeanor. It’s a tough mix, but he pulls it off 🙂💪🏼
I'm from NC and it's so relieving to see local law enforcement willingly and unselfishly allow the experts to handle such precious and painstaking moments. Way to go to everyone involved. R.I.P. to the young man who didn't see this coming ❤️
Same as an NC resident. Although NC police didn’t treat them well in the Nicholas Allen video. Completely disrespected them and the family of the missing person. An embarrassment to our great state.
I do think they should start to build a network with companies like AWP so they can call in immediate assistance to search for missing people who fit a set of criteria (I.e. missing with car). It's expensive for the police to get the equipment and then there's using it enough to become experts with it.
They don't investigate much on land, I can't see them caring about the water. You can hear some of them tell these guys that some of their other videos.
I’m in awe of people like this, who work tirelessly to bring closure to grieving families. My brother was killed in October, 2006 after a pipeline explosion offshore. I’m wondering if this is the same person I’d posted prayers for over the years! If so, this is answered prayer in that sense for his soul. I’d wanted to know (one year) if he’d been found, but the police station of the city/ town could not give me that information. So I just continued praying… It’s been a long time.
My heart hurts for his family. To not know where your child is for 16 years, absolutely heartbreaking. You guys make sure you're taking care of yourselves and, your mental health through all of these searches. Thank you for all you do for these families!❤

As someone who’s waited 16 years and counting for answers to my best friends murder I sit here holding back sobs as I think about the closure you’re giving these families. The not knowing what happened, the thoughts your mind runs with, all the scenarios you’re terrified of and nothing to stifle them down… until someone like you guys comes along, for no other purpose but to give answers. I’d give almost anything except another life, to get the answers I seek in my Chelsea’s death (and my other friend Matt) I fear it will never come and you know how many families you helped that thought the same?
...I am so sorry for your loss and I can't imagine how horrible it must feel but I DO know someone who can quiet your fear and worry. His name is Jesus and He said a few things I'd to share with you, because the truth will be revealed 100% and there will be justice: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matt 11:28-30) "Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops......And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father but the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." (Matt 10:26-31) And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.... (Revelation 21:3-7)
Who would have known 20 years ago that someone would start such an awesome movement on behalf of grieving families and friends. This still astounds me to think about it every time I watch an episode.
I just can’t imagine what Dedrick’s mother has been through, wondering what happened to her baby. I hope this gives her deserved peace, and relief, knowing her son is found, and can be put to rest. 🌹
TV producers will make them add unnecessary drama to keep ratings up and unneeded fluff. "Who's pregnant?" "Why are the two hosts fighting?" "Straps broke removing a vehicle - will he be fired?" That sort of stuff, ya know?
Never judge!!! Doug doesn't look like the blessed and God's chosen he is, and when the speaker said " bring him home Doug , I melted...BLESS YOUR EFFORTS AND BE SAFE ALWAYS.
Thank you for honoring this young man rather than berating him. It was a gentle quiet video done with grace, class and honor. My comment was for that and to tell the algorithm that i genuinely care and appreciate the care you took with portraying his character and disorder. Thank you for finding him and at all times making it about him and not you. This is exactly what social media should be used for.
That drone shot of the red marker sitting in calm water, got me right in the feels. He was there for so long. I really hope his family and friends got closure, and a chance to have a proper goodbye.

@Chief Sitting Nigga (We wuz natives!) It doesn't do harm, to the dead. It gives the living, closure. Technically, you are correct: people do let their imagination scare themselves, when told someone was killed in a house. But if they have no idea that they were killed in the house, then they are fine. My mom died peacefully, in her hospital bed, with all 8 of her children singing, in my arms. In her bedroom, at home. After what we have learned Police Departments should be funded with underwater sonar as a priority. So many cases could be resolved in months instead of tracking for years. Thank you so much Adventures With Purpose for filling in this needed gap in search & rescue
How about lets not and keep doing it the way it is being done. Gov't make nothing better,it bogs things down. If they had any brains and truly searched police in many instance could have solved these cases with a little thought, so why would i give them more money that will lead to the same results. I would rather see AWP and the others continue to do this work...
Most departments don't have the funds for all equipment needed for every situation. They don't get approved to spend their limited funds on things they wouldn't be using frequently. And now there is all kinds of defunding going on so I don't see this changing any time soon. Thank god for these guys, and all of the crews doing this! AWP in particular just keep solving case after case now and it is amazing how many people are being found because of their efforts!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!
Good idea about the SONAR. The next step would be training and practice. I've watched a few of these now. I've noticed that sometimes the cars and trucks look like a grainy picture and are unmistakable and sometimes they are an indistinguishable blob and a couple of lines. There is s lot of art and practice running the gear and interpreting the images. AWP and some of the others should be in high demand as trainers. That is one way to have an effective force multiplier! Sorry, old military habits die hard!

Back in the day when my daughter was a 3yr old, I took her with me to a dept store. Young & dumb me became distracted looking at clothes on a circular rack while my daughter crawled underneath the rack, hidden by the clothing. When I went to get her, she was gone! I ran everywhere looking for her, alk 3 levels of that store and was afraid to go out any door to search the parking lot for fear that someone would take her out a door on opposite side of the store. BEGGED a security guard to lock all doors and he just shook his head no, wouldn't call police, or help me look for her. I ran back to area of that clothing rack and a little old lady came up to me and asked if I was looking for a little girl, said she was in the shoe dept. Ran there and my kid was climbing a wall that had shelves for shoes. That woman was an angel. Nowadays the stores would do a missing child lockdown alert. @@yeahliam12alt82 you must be so proud of your oldest. Mental health is so dismissed and judged if it is acknowledged. I know my own mom’s generation has awful things to say about it. I hope and pray that the younger generation is more understanding of us with mental health issues. Good job mom for raising a sensitive son!
Chills when that car lifted out the water. Last week a mom and daughter was found in a car submerged in Broward County after being missing 50 YEARS!!! Keep doing what you’re doing.
RIP poor man, mental health needs to be taken more seriously in this country. I also hope his girlfriend doesn't blame herself for going to the store and leaving him alone, hopefully this gives everyone who searched for him some closure
I see several mentioning mental health but it seems this was purely a tragic accident. Did I miss a detail in the story? Was this an instance of someone taking his own life? Whatever the case, it's so heartbreaking but i'm glad the family got answers.
@Angela they mentioned he had amnesia and schizophrenia. Often with that (dementia as well) people become disoriented. They also mentioned there was no barrier on the road back then, so one could easily just drive straight into the water thinking the road continues, if disoriented. They said it seems purely accidental but more likely caused by his amensia/schizophrenia, hence the mental health comments.
This is amazing! I can just picture Dedrick's spirit on the side of the banks with these guys so happy and thankful that someone finally found him. This was very touching.
Wow! 16 years later and Doug found this young man in a matter of hours. Sometimes I wonder if for a moment they have some clarity. An amazing recovery per usual!
The speech about not letting certain people drive was honestly my thoughts for most of these missing people you guys show who are older or just have dementia. It's the fact that these people can just forget and get so confused so easily yet they are still allowed to drive that baffles me.
It's difficult for a lot of people to give up their independence, I think. Coupled with America's bad public transportation infrastructure... it's sad.
@@tampabaybuccaneer10 Plus they can slip by when no one is looking. At night, or when left alone. You never know if they were "permitted" to drive or just took off when no one was watching.
It's difficult to give up independence. You say the things you say now, but if God blesses you to reach an advanced age, let's see how you feel then. Try some sensitivity & class.
You and me both. So many AWP cases involve infirm people. No telling how many other accidents are caused by people who shouldn't be on the road. No doubt this adds to the frustration and heartbreak. I've had long haul COVID for 2 years. For close to 18 months, I was too sick and weak to walk out to my car, much less DRIVE. I've improved enough to drive short distances but it wears me out. Last month I had to make a 60 mile round trip due to an emergency, but it was very dangerous and I slept for several days after. I absolutely despise being dependent on others (mostly my saint of a husband) for everything. It is miserable to not have my independence, but in this situation I had no choice. I've realized that my safety and that of others comes first. I'm slowly improving but I don't have any guarantees that I'll be back to my pre COVID strength.....not for lack of trying!
See, these are the guys who should be on Discovery Channel with a whole crew and funding behind them as they travel the country. Not that guy who makes vlogs of his friends doing stunts and pulling pranks, there’s no reason to have a whole television show on that. These guys are doing something so much more important for people.
They said they were offered a TV show once but declined, because they would not have control over it and would not be able to work as many cases as they are now.
I’m literally holding my tears. The level of humanity and care is overwhelming. Thank you guys for all of the hard work. Thank you for bringing this family peace.

I must second what a lot of people have said previously; the visuals, cinematography, music score, history, research, dedication, knowledge, expertise, respect, due diligence… all this and more done on this investigation, like all others - it is apparent you guys are passionate about helping families get answers and the closure they need. Thank you sincerely, to the entire AWP team. Your purpose is beautiful, scary and necessary. Please, I pray you take time for yourselves, rest well when you can, and stay safe. We pray for y’all. Sending so much love and light your way.
This was the first episode I watched about what you guys do as rescue divers, I was blown away of how everything is handled with such professionalism and compassion. This made me subscribe to your channel and I’ve been a fan ever since. Please keep bringing the missing people home!
These people are a true blessing and their hearts really show in each of their episodes. I always need a box of kleeenexes while watching their rescues!
In 1968 a businessman in DE and his secretary accidentally ran off the road and into a canal. They were found 28 years later. His insurance company wouldn't payout because they told his wife they suspected he ran off with his secretary. Waterways should be the first places searched. No his family called and had one for him . This was so painful for years watching his mom and family search for him so no this was not the memorial set for him . When my mother started having memory issues and confusion, she got lost once driving and we took her license away. She was supposed to pick up her granddaughter 10 min from the house and ended up a half hour away in another state. Some people just shouldn’t drive for their own safety.

This broke my heart! 16 years a Mother, Father and family have wondered what happened to their son! Probably thinking something worse happened to him when he wasnt found. I completely agree. I've always thought that souls can't rest until it's known what happened to the person, then they can move on.
I totally agree the money our current administration has spent on getting rid of rival candidates could find many many people.
I agree. More funding should go to law enforcement for these searches. It’s very frustrating.
Especially multiple vehicles in the same place
Hire these people to find loved ones
Lack of funding, but also the problem that it requires spezialised training to do what these guys do. Training and regular recertification. Most rural PDs probably don't see the need for the few cases they get. And/or have trouble finding the people willing to do it, as you would need at least two or three (diver and spotter).

What I find astonishing is that this young man was missing for 16 years and this team finds his car in just a couple days. Hopefully this will change search procedures when it comes to missing people and their vehicles.

Yes so many cars in one body of water…
Police have more important matters to deal with than pulling bones out of water, like going after criminals and reducing crime
AWP searched an area 3x and missed a car. They found it the 4th time the next year when they returned. It is not straightforward. To err is human.
I been saying for a long time imagine how much is under water. Every police force should absolutely have a dive team
I do think they should start to build a network with companies like AWP so they can call in immediate assistance to search for missing people who fit a set of criteria (I.e. missing with car). It's expensive for the police to get the equipment and then there's using it enough to become experts with it.

What state was your friends murder in?
...I am so sorry for your loss and I can't imagine how horrible it must feel but I DO know someone who can quiet your fear and worry. His name is Jesus and He said a few things I'd to share with you, because the truth will be revealed 100% and there will be justice:
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matt 11:28-30)
"Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." (Matt 10:26-31)
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

That's exactly what I felt when I saw that shot 💔
It did me too! Such a profound feeling from something so simple as a bouy.
Yes it made me think how many time did individuals sit there felt something but never knew what it was.

Beautiful and disturbing and handled with grace. I felt like this was a memorial service for Dedrick Smith. 🙏

Prayers for his family and friends. God Bless his Mom.
I have heard the story told about how my mom was when I was on a ventilator for 33 days and not expected to make. I can’t imagine what my mom would have done had I passed away. I love my mom. She was great to all four of us and all the grands. She is 80 and still kicking.
Did you find out about the other car?
That's exactly what it felt like I was watching.. I felt like i was sitting at a memorial service/funeral watching paul bearers raise a blue coffin out of that water instead of a car.
It always breaks my heart how often it is that these people are so close to their last know location, yet are not found for so long.
Adventures with purpose really shows us that we need more than just cops and investigators since they really don’t do much . We need the community to become the resources to help one another .
Cops don’t have the resources or manpower usually.

What I've come to truly appreciate about your work, not just the professionalism and depth of knowledge, but the respect you have for the missing individual and their families. It's never, we found a 'body', it's we found Jan or we found Dedrick. He was literally right there all this time... these guys found him in 1 day when the cops couldn't find him in 16yrs. Why isn't more being done to help find people? Just because someone struggles with mental health issues doesn't make them less worthy of being found or their families less of worthy of answers and closure.

Good point
Good idea about the SONAR. The next step would be training and practice. I've watched a few of these now. I've noticed that sometimes the cars and trucks look like a grainy picture and are unmistakable and sometimes they are an indistinguishable blob and a couple of lines. There is s lot of art and practice running the gear and interpreting the images. AWP and some of the others should be in high demand as trainers. That is one way to have an effective force multiplier! Sorry, old military habits die hard!
They have the funding for sonar, they just spend it on stuff for themselves. The sheriff in my city has 3 city owned vehicles just for him 😐
The cinematography is getting better and better over time. The details when they were bringing the tow truck in were so small but amazingly shot. Props to you guys and bless you and all you do to find answers for the families.

Right! I agree 100%!!
I've never been able to describe the sheer panic and frantic sense of hopeless of a missing loved one. Thankful this gentleman's family finally has some closure.
