Seriously it's insanity! I'm not buying a PS6 or whatever weird name the next Xbox will be. I'll keep my PS5 until it no longer has games, PS5 is a big leap in power from the PS4, that's also a reason not to get a PS6 or newer Xbox in the upcoming years, not just the lack of games.
The fact that they didn't do this in 2023 is mind boggling because developers should focus on one generation so that way games could actually be decent
The PS4 won't be outdated anytime soon. The PS5 isn't a big enough Jump for people to be in a rush to upgrade. 95% of PS5 games are on PS4 and PS4 still holds up in graphics so some people are flat out waiting until the ps6 because they feel the PS5 is just a ps4 pro max
You act like if they stop supporting last gen all of sudden developers are gunna start making more innovative games. News flash dawg many developers are just creating copy and paste live service games with no imagination. That’s not gunna change buddy
It's more than that. Covid has been over and it's not hard to get a PS5 now yet people still won't upgrade. 95% of PS5 games release on PS4, there isn't a big jump in graphics for most games and it hasn't felt like the PS5 power has been pushed to it's limits. So why would people be in a rush to upgrade?

People are seriously overestimating how much consoles are holding back “innovation.” If developer truly had this amazing new vision they’d make that game instead of the same slop that can run on the PS4. Using that new Star Wars game as an example is hilarious because the actual gameplay looks straight out of a PS3 era game.
when GTA 4 got released people were surprised it wasn't releasing on the PS2. Now over 10 years later that seems absurd but the same case can be applied here, RIP the 8th Gen, gone but *never* forgotten.
The PS2 was one of the only consoles which lasted as long as the PS4/XONE are going to and by the time the PS2 was as old as those last gen consoles are now, it was in complete zombie mode, pretty much only receiving a small handful of yearly sports titles before kicking the bucket.
The PS3 is dead in terms of the fact that it hasn't gotten any new games in a long time nor has SONY sold new PS3s in quite some time. Online support is a bit of a separate thing IMO. But yes, PS4 and XBOX One do still have quite some time left.

7 reasons I’m sticking with PS4 and waiting for PS6 1. It is just ridiculously expensive for a new console and new games. 2. a lot of older games got updates and new dlc. 3.There so many remasters and remakes of old games coming out that are discounted on PSN store. 4. There are very few games I can play on PS5 that is not PS4. 5. Not enough new exclusive titles that I am interested in. Many Devs do not focus on story anymore. I rather have good story and ok graphics, then good graphics and no story. 6. I don’t play a lot online. 7. I keep finding hidden gems in a mass library of games that is available on PS4.
10. Get a budget gaming pc/laptop and get ps5 exclusives on Steam. Ps5 and pc have the same system architecture, and that's why it's easy to port ps5 games on pc.
its fascinating to see history repeat itself AFAIK, the one of the ps3's biggest competitors was the ps2 that was weird for me to understand, until seeing this mess that is the 9th gen console era
Still playing with ps4 pro with an ssd. But as of lately I got a hdmi hook up for my ps2 and have been playing it for the past month. A lot of us older folks are going backwards instead of forwards. Nothings really enticing enough to want to upgrade.
I kept my PS4 and always will because you never know what could happen one day. My last PS4 had PT on it and I lost it in a fire. Those consoles were selling for over $1000 at one point.

It's crazy how video game consoles/cartridge prices change Sold pokemon diamond on the DS for over a hundred dollars a while back, bought it in 2019 for $30!
I think the consoles being fully backwards compatible is the reason the 8th gen hasn’t died. A lot of indie games and rereleases of retro content are made primarily for 8th gen because they can just be played on the current consoles or easily ported. If there wasn’t backwards compatibility, developers would probably feel forced to move onto the current gen.
They'd migrate, sure. But this also points out that while each generation is more powerful, the extra power benefits a smaller and smaller number of games.
@@josefelfinito6925 definitely! waited 2 years for the 11.0 jailbreak cause I accidentally updated to play warzone with a friend at 9.03 Its been cool trying out games I never would have bought anyway. Also got a jailbroken Nintendo switch so I pretty much got access to any game retro or newer. Sold all my old games ill probably never play anyway to downsize and just emulate it all now. Best decision ive made. Retro games are way too expensive now cause of collectors and the value will drop as interest in retro games goes away in a few generations.
The 8th generation consoles aren't holding games back. That's propaganda by game developers who are looking for an excuse for their mediocre work. Tell me how Far Cry 6 would've been so much better if it was next gen exclusive. It would be literally the same lazy and recycled game it was. Just for $70
If developers need a game to run on both PS5 and PS4, it will have to be held back. Detail will need to be limited and character models won't be able to be as fleshed out because PS4 can't handle as much stuff as PS5 can It's an issue as old as time, when the PS4 came out and shared games with PS3 the 7th gen was holding it back as well Not propaganda at all, bottlenecks are a common issue
Yeah far cry 6 may not have been much different but what abt gt7? Gow ragnorok or some of the other studios that actually do have the knowledge and tools to make good looking games. Ps4 and xbx1 needs to retire man no digg to them but it's been 10 years
@@CrackedJust1nthey have ps4 versions and ps5 versions for a lot of games for a reason lmao its not necessarily being held back. The ps5 can still run games with better quality textures and shaders made for it, and the ps4 version has textures and shaders made for what it can handle. If you have the better console, you can utilize it all, but its only bottlenecked for old gen, which is fine because most people are willing to sacrifice some graphical quality to be able to play the same games on the console they invested in aswell. No way you called the 8th Generation outdated. Outdated is something you never want to go back to. The PS4, Xbox One and Wii U are great retro consoles.
@@Tom-d3o I'm not really going to comment on the quality of Outlaws. But it's also not really a 'next gen' game either. It's bones are very standard Ubisoft with a Star Wars coat of paint. What even IS next gen when you think about it?
You guys don't understand this next gen problem. The problem is that the current gen hardware are high to the extent i it will take a lot of time to make games on current gen that's why they still make games for old gen because their installed base is high💀
People forget that the Xbox/PS3 was the longest generations ever 2005-2013, so only makes sense that the generations would get longer as graphical improvements get less impressive.
Never ! Has retro games died yet ? No! people are playing them more and more now you know why ? Because we used to get quality good full games without all the bs and constant updates that keep changing the games . So , older gaming will never die because it's absolutely better ! Ps4 had a lot of quality good games .
As I always tell many people, I expect retro gaming to increase in the future as current generations and future generations of gaming will continue to feature increases in some of the most despicable anti-consumer practices because game companies want to satisfy their greed and control over consumers' rights (i.e. microtransactions, throwing games behind subscription services, making certain games unplayable without internet connections, etc.)
I feel like this topic is a bit difficult for a lot of people right now. It's not like everyone can just buy a $500 console. I only got an Xbox One S in 2019 and that was a $200 maybe $250 family deal at Costco of all places. Also the cheaper option of the Series S being digital only puts me off and basically makes me only want the Series X due to it still having a disc drive. I'm not the only one who has their games mostly in a physical format right?
Four years of cross gen is enough. The first two years were rocky because of how hard it was to get a console but they’ve been readily available for long enough now so it’s time for developers to move on.
We are at a point where the leap from one generation to the next is getting smaller, so for a lot of people, it doesn’t really seem like an upgrade. On top of that, it was super hard to get a next-gen console up until around last year or so, and even then, many next-gen games release with a last-gen version, or that last-gen version is released later (like with Jedi Survivor). I think, though, with GTA VI, Doom: The Dark Ages, Monster Hunter: Wilds, Death Stranding 2, and more, we’ll see more and more people move to the next-gen systems, but ironically, because so many people will only moving at the halfway point for this gen, it’s gonna make selling tenth-gen consoles even harder, and the leap will be even smaller. Although, if the rumors end up being true, Sony and Microsoft are going to be making handhelds so maybe it’ll be okay.
You lost me when you mentioned The Last of Us 2 as one of the best games. One of the best graphically yes, the rest is a big capital NO. A good game is all about the gameplay, not just the graphics or story. Even games with simple stylish graphics can have great gameplay. Having good graphics is just a bonus. The PS4 won't die until Sony release a ton of exclusive for the PS5 and since they're too busy with their live service and remakes, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Even the next Naughty Dog game, TES or The Witcher is many years away and the PS5 is already at its mid life cycle while the PS4 still has a strong playerbase. You do know there's a reason many gamers go back to older games? It's less predatory, game quest felt less like checklist. Some times revisiting the simpler times of gaming is a good thing. You can have your big games like GTAV or RDR2 but games like Elden Ring, the Yakuza/Judgment games or even budget titles like the recent RoboCop deserve a place. They don't look the best but they're incredibly satisfying. Even Fallout New Vegas looks bad for its time but the gameplay and story makes up for it. And no matter what anyone says about Rise of the Ronin's graphics, I still enjoy the hell out of it.
I love my ps4 it's been a workhorse for alot of years for me, I'll will get a ps5 but only when devs get to grips with the hardware, I think there's lack of good games because devs are finding it hard to push it if that makes any sense, stay safe and well and pal great vid made alot of sense.
the nintendo switch is a big reason games are still made for the ps4 snd xbox one. if a game can run on that, it might as well run on them to expand its reach in sales, and it will look better.
This has absolutely nothing to do with the one/ps4 being still alive since most nintendo switch games are exclusives and will never release on xbox one.
There will be very few games this holiday season that will be on 8th gen consoles. The only 2 I can think of is FC(fifa) and call of duty because most of the casual social gamers (their main audience) aren’t getting next gen until GTA VI
I would say a 3 year limit on last gen consoles into the new generation is long enough for those consoles to receive games before devs move on. Im not saying everyone should upgrade I’m just saying that they should expect a limited lifespan out of their consoles and enjoy them while they last and collect as many games as they can before moving to the next generation console
There are still 1mill PS3 players. The ps4 accounts for 50% of Playstation monthly players. Yeah, the ps4 might have the same longevity that the ps2 did. That's not a bad thing.
Old consoles aren’t holding back games. It’s the lack of passion, talent, and optimization from devs. Many AAA games still run ass on decent PCs and current gen consoles. They’re still blurry and often look WORSE than games in some ways from a decade ago.
I think part of the core problem is that most games don't really know what to do with the extra power except dump it into more and prettier graphics. Don't get me wrong, PS5 can be BEAUTIFUL. But the gameplay always feels like more of the same. I don't care about PS5 games because, fundamentally, I don't see a huge difference in the basic gameplay models that it enables compared to the PS4. I'm sure the new GTA will be gorgeous and have a well written story and will use up all the resources available on the PS5 . . . But I don't know if the gameplay is going to offer anything new or just . . . MORE.
9th gen does not have the player base to allow the publishers to be profitable by making their games 9th gen only. There you go. That's why PS4 hasn't died.
Probably within the next year or so. Big games like GTA 6 are coming out relatively soon and more and more games will start being 9th gen exclusives pretty soon. Just look at what happened with the PS3, 360, and Wii. They still had major games releasing for them up until 2017. Like Persona 5 for example . And that was 4 years after the PS4, Xbox One released and 5 years after the Wii U released . And not to mention COVID, which a lot of people already mentioned but it ‘s worth repeating as that had a huge impact on the sales for both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. The chip shortage caused Sony and Microsoft to not be able to produce enough console to meet the huge demand. Which lead to scalpers buying up the super limited stock there was at launch. And throughout December 2020, the entirety of 2021 and most of 2022, it was dang near impossible to get the 9th gen consoles. The PS5 especially. Not to mention that game development takes awhile so we won’t see a ton of 9th gen exclusives for probably another 2-3 years. All of these factors has greatly extended the lifespans of the 8th gen. Let’s not also forget that Nintendo is taking forever to release the next console and the Switch is/was still selling super well and developers have to aim for that in order to get the most sales. And since the Switch is so underpowered compared to both sets of the PlayStation and Xbox consoles, developers might as well put their games on the other 8th gen consoles since it wouldn’t be that much different. All of this is why the PS4 and Xbox One is still relevant.
Grabbing couple of xbox ones for cheap as hell and having multiplayer games for the kids or other guests that come over is honestly great for me personally
Thing is, games nowadays take the longest they have ever taken to develop. For example, GTA Vice City took only 9 months to develop on the ps2, modern games take YEARS to be done, and the longer a game takes to be done, the more money that is spent making it. Past a certain point, its just nit worth it continuing development when the game is already good, because a few small attentions to detail wont make a massive change on the sales of the game. Thats why a lot of games that are made nowadays can be ran on old consoles, because making a game that requires next gen consoles to run is very difficult.
It's cheap. There are many indie games that run perfectly well on ps4. Good enough for casual gaming. But yeah.... For true gamers it's time to move to the new platforms and for AAA devs too
The only reason I bought a PS5 was because a hurricane fried my PS4 Pro. If it weren’t for that, I’d still be gaming on my PS4 because there wasn’t enough incentive, games, power, etc. to make me want to make the upgrade.
Previous gen consoles were never holding sh"t back. Games are now taking too long develop because devs are getting lazy doing remasters and remakes. The huge difference between ps4 and 5 is the frame rate performance not graphics. Ps4 already look photo realistic, just depends on the developers. Rock star and naughty dog made a perfect use of the ps4 power. Besides, some people don't care much about frames, hence they really see no reason to get a the current gen consoles. Everything gets outdated. Ps5 and Xbox series is already getting outdated.
Where do you think the money for developing next gen games will come from? Next gen games always cost significantly more and I think a hybrid approach is the way to go for a few years- serious console gamers will want to play at 4k 60fps locked with nicer graphics tech eventually as compared to max 1800p 60fps (on PS4 pro).
It's going to be a while. And I feel like this generation will be longer than any other. People just aren't ready to go full next-gen, the market just isn't ready yet.
Really good video man , considering hoping back on ps5 but i have a pc. I dont wanna miss gta 6 though. I would essentially be getting a ps5 solely to play gta 6 on release instead of waiting a year or two for pc. Hard decision , as you say ps5 rn is essentially just upscaled last gen games.
Here is a positive note if you have 1 of the 3 variants of the PS4 you will still have new games to play. A old console but like the Switch still getting lots of supportbut instead of it being 1st party it will be 3rd party. I prefer fiscal over digital but digital has it's benefits for indie developers. If there games are successful enough they might make a limited run of fiscal copies. I have a OG PS5 and 3 PS4 PRO's with SSD hard drives.
I think the PS4 Pro and Xbox one X should be able to play next gen games. Considering the PS4 Pro is on par with the Series S in terms of Graphics horsepower. And the One X exceeds that placing its self between the Series S and Series X. The only thing holding it back is the overclocked 2013 mobile CPU and the slow Hard drive. But it’s still capable of handling games at higher graphical fidelity than the Series S in a lot of cases (Don’t say “but raytracing” because the series s barely supports it and it’s not practical in any scenario)
We are getting current gen only titles coming, such as that Silent Hill 2 remake, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Astro Bot, as well as Lost Records: Bloom and Rage. There is a shift away from the old consoles occuring, but its been too slow
the ps4 will definitely be supported for years to come especially when most games are cross play some being cross gen such as grand turismo 7 games like warzone Fortnite apex etc being updated and cross play enabled really no need to switch unless u just want the next gen experience gta6 will bring alot of sales to next gen but looking at black ops6 being released to ps4 and 5 persons will still be using last gen
"Consumer, why don't you buy a PS5?" "Well most new games coming out still work on PS4. It just seems like an unnecessary purchase when I can still get all the games I'm looking forward to." "Developers, why aren't you making your games PS5/Series X exclusives?" "Well when we were making the game we realized we could optimize it for last gen consoles. And hey, everyone's got a PS4, we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot not tapping into that player base." It's a cycle.
You seem to forget that not all people can afford to buy ps5 or Xbox series,, so ps4 and Xbox one shouldn't be cut out yet,,, let us enjoy while y'all are enjoying the next Gen consoles
We're going to break this cycle of old hardware holding back the new hardware. Because everyone will eventually be playing via the cloud. Just like how everyone has watched Netflix. So all the heavy lifting will be done by servers and all you need is a screen to display the gameplay.
Me and my bro share a xbox one for the first time and it's actually a awesome experience and the xbox one don't feel outdated at all it's like driving a 1999 toyota corolla in 2024 still running games like a tank 💯.
with gta6 only on 9th gen, people have no choice but to buy a 9th gen console to play it, and that means 9th gen can be the primary focus now. cod2025 needs to be 9th gen only too, cod is still stuck with 2013 hardware in 2024...
this is a good and bad thing with devs supporting 8th gen consoles. Many people including me haven't moved on to the next generation so still being able to play new releases is nice. But at the same time it does bottle neck the potential these games could have.
The PS5 is $800 and the Pro is $1200 in Australia, under ten years ago the PS4 Pro launched for $550, games for PS4 are $60-80, PS5 games are $90-120. The PS4 has not died because people outside of the US and EU have been victims of disgusting corporate greed that is over 6x that of inflation, so they will not buy a PS5 no matter what and will continue to buy games on what they already have. I'm Australian and speaking from experience, not a single person in my 8 person friend group of people who play console games owns a PS5 or Series X, they can't afford it.

Nintendo supports thier latest consoles. U have to give them that. Xbox series X should be supported for a while especially with 8K. I just got one not too long ago.
The new consoles are outdated too. Performance is on the level of a 10 year old gpu. Its more like a Pro+ version of last gen. WuKong was an exclusive and its struggling so hard on current gen. So many new games run on 30fps. Its not always an issue of optimization or last gen holding us back.

Or a gpu as powerful The 5 and x are like 2070s and 2080s the most powerful card 10 years ago was a 980. Which these shit on
Hopefully it won't die soon, many PS3 multiplayer titles still work, some of us didn't have the Internet and still have many to experience. On top of that, why should slightly older consoles become obsolete? Some old games are still technical marvels and sometimes a reminder of better times. I understand new games not being released on older consoles, but saying that previous Generations should "die" of comes from unappreciation what came before and affordability. They can at least keep online servers and Game Pass running as long as possible, just look at Sony with PS3 and PSVITA which is a great example of how long term support should be.
I think there is still a market for Xbox One and PS4 games, take kids games for example, there's simply no point in having a native PS5 or Xbox Series version which is likely to add nothing over the last generation release, especially with boxed games where there's a retail Xbox One / Series disc and then a PS4 and PS5 disc, it doesn't seem much point to have anything other than the last gen release as those play on the new systems anyway. I'm not 100% sure the problem even lies with the last generation systems being supported but rather, the cost and time scale involved in making games that take full advantage of the latest hardware, as said, there's now more games skipping the last gen and being exclusively PS5 and Xbox X/S, you've got to spend 2-3 years and millions to produce a 'AAA' release, to do this, you need to sell millions of copies, that was made easier up to a few years ago by adding in the tens of millions of Xbox One and PS4 owners by simply scaling the project back a bit, it's becoming less and less of a thing now, since the PS5 in particular has an install base of like 60 million plus more large projects are reaching their development end date versus back then.
not fully supporting the ps5 until the latter half of its life cycle is insane
obviously most people don't own a ps5 and sony is a business and they need more sales

The PS2 was one of the only consoles which lasted as long as the PS4/XONE are going to and by the time the PS2 was as old as those last gen consoles are now, it was in complete zombie mode, pretty much only receiving a small handful of yearly sports titles before kicking the bucket.
PS3 hasn’t died yet and u could find pretty easy games in BO1 for example. PS4 and Xbox one is definitely not gonna die soon
The PS3 is dead in terms of the fact that it hasn't gotten any new games in a long time nor has SONY sold new PS3s in quite some time. Online support is a bit of a separate thing IMO.
But yes, PS4 and XBOX One do still have quite some time left.
@@bigbangbot-SuperSqank I mean as a player base/count, there’s still quite a bit of players playing especially in rdr and bo1. Yea the ps3 shop is open too and still functional. It gets updates aswell maybe not as frequently but still gets it
Why were people surprised 😂 GTA 4 was WAY more graphically advanced than pretty much any PS2 game
Until we get something worth playing, I could care less about "next gen", especially when this is the most insignificant tech leap in gaming ever.
7 reasons I’m sticking with PS4 and waiting for PS6
8. The jet fan sound is like white sound which in sleep
9. It looks like a spaceship and a Wii fused together.
10. Get a budget gaming pc/laptop and get ps5 exclusives on Steam. Ps5 and pc have the same system architecture, and that's why it's easy to port ps5 games on pc.
@@icarus387 reccomending a budget gaming laptop is wild to run ps5 games on steam. shit will explode
It's insane that the current gen consoles are already half-way through their lifecycle. Yet we still have games developed for last gen consoles.

AFAIK, the one of the ps3's biggest competitors was the ps2
that was weird for me to understand, until seeing this mess that is the 9th gen console era
Damn, but couldn't you just sign in with your account and download it on another console

I just turned my PS4 Pro on a week ago after years of leaving it unplugged and I'm already in love with it.

Detail will need to be limited and character models won't be able to be as fleshed out because PS4 can't handle as much stuff as PS5 can
It's an issue as old as time, when the PS4 came out and shared games with PS3 the 7th gen was holding it back as well
Not propaganda at all, bottlenecks are a common issue

You guys don't understand this next gen problem. The problem is that the current gen hardware are high to the extent i it will take a lot of time to make games on current gen that's why they still make games for old gen because their installed base is high💀
The ps5 has backwards compatibility with the ps4 games so very unlikely it will die when we still have that
People forget that the Xbox/PS3 was the longest generations ever 2005-2013, so only makes sense that the generations would get longer as graphical improvements get less impressive.
They will die the moment they give the people a reason to make that jump to the ps5. So far, my PS4 pro is doing everything a ps5 can do.
I'm still on my PS3
@Omaralomari2 I'll think about it
Aw hell na😭
@@starlord7636 What do you mean hell nah? PS3 is better than PS5.
Wait what I didn’t like TLOU2s story but the gameplay was so much better than the first one

I would say a 3 year limit on last gen consoles into the new generation is long enough for those consoles to receive games before devs move on.
I'm sure the new GTA will be gorgeous and have a well written story and will use up all the resources available on the PS5 . . . But I don't know if the gameplay is going to offer anything new or just . . . MORE.

amazing video justin! 💜💜
don’t know, don’t care. the end
For me my ps4 will never die
i wont get a ps5 until maybe january so… i love my ps4 of 8 years and still buying games for it happly
For true gamers it's time to move to the new platforms and for AAA devs too
The PlayStation 4 will never die.... MarvelvsCapom Arcade will keep it alive for at least 5 years by itself.
They won’t bro inflation is crazy
I will get a PS5 for GTA 6 and only if it is worth the hype.
The only reason I bought a PS5 was because a hurricane fried my PS4 Pro. If it weren’t for that, I’d still be gaming on my PS4 because there wasn’t enough incentive, games, power, etc. to make me want to make the upgrade.
But we can tell you're not regreting the upgrade though.
Only after GTA 6 launches
*PS4: "We're done when I say we're done!"*
3:50 they look incredible.
2 seconds later, low resolution character shadow.
Its when you release a next gen game only and it ends up being crap ....which generation will you blame
I will continue to use my ps4 until it dies. Maybe just maybe I'll buy a ps5. But than again I'll buy another ps4.
"Consumer, why don't you buy a PS5?"
"Well most new games coming out still work on PS4. It just seems like an unnecessary purchase when I can still get all the games I'm looking forward to."
"Developers, why aren't you making your games PS5/Series X exclusives?"
"Well when we were making the game we realized we could optimize it for last gen consoles. And hey, everyone's got a PS4, we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot not tapping into that player base."
It's a cycle.
Me and my bro share a xbox one for the first time and it's actually a awesome experience and the xbox one don't feel outdated at all it's like driving a 1999 toyota corolla in 2024 still running games like a tank 💯.

i just got my first xbox one console from a friend a month ago, ive been living with the 360 since i was 10. im now 17.
this is a good and bad thing with devs supporting 8th gen consoles.
Can’t believe rdr2 is 6 years already
We’re in the good timeline where you can play bo6 on the vcr Xbox
People that say there isn't a leap are not playing on 4k tv's and don't have next gen. It's okay you guys cope harder.
